Chapter 9
07:52, 23 March 2017The next morning was the start of everyone's favorite day of camp. This was the day where cabin would be pinned against cabin in competitive sports. The day where only one cabin would come out on top. It was the Camp Riverwalk Olympics. Each cabin was assigned a color. The t shirts that were given to each cabin had the cabins name on the front and the last name of the camper on the back.
"This should be interesting. We're kicking the guys' butts!" Leslie yelled as her cabin raced up to the field so they could start the ceremony.
"You guys are going down!" Kim and the other girls yelled at the boys' cabins.
Cabins were paired off and each one was playing a different sport. After each game was finished, they rotated onto the next one. Ms. Lopez, Ms. Danforth. Antonio and Matt sat off to the side talking. Ms. Lopez was getting flirty with Antonio, much to Laura's dismay. She scowled at her and shook her fists, hoping she wasn't looking.
"Laura, top bunks are up to bat. Come on." Kim poked her, trying to get her attention.
"As long as she stays away from my future husband, I'll be fine." Laura said as she got up to grab a bat.
"Laura, relax. They're just friends. She even admitted to us that she thinks of him more as an annoying brother rather than the boyfriend type. You have nothing to worry about."
Laura stepped up to home plate as Kelly took his position on the pitching mound.
"You ready?" He asked as he adjusted his helmet.
"As I'll ever be."
She got into the batting stance, he threw her a curve ball that she nearly missed. Instead, she hit it so hard it went flying right out of sight. Everyone used their hands as sun visors to look up to see if they could spot it. Laura was in such shock, she didn't know what to do.
"Don't just stand there you dumb bunny, RUN!" Gabby shouted at her.
As she made her way around the bases, her cabin stood up and cheered. Antonio and Matt gave their cabin the evil eye because the half that wasn't playing was just sitting there, no look of enthusiasm on any of their faces.
"Guys, we know it's not our cabin, but be good sports and cheer at least. "
"For the girls? Why?" Jay questioned as he ripped at the grass. Antonio thumped him on the back of the head.
"Jay, please? All of you guys too. Cheer or none of you are going to the cookout for lunch. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Mr. Dawson." They all grumbled.
"Don't worry guys, I got a good one." Peter said. He whispered to all of them and they all agreed that it was a good one.
"Ready? Okay!" Peter said in a girly voice.
"Deer Beach is whack,Deer Beach is whackSo do us a favor, andjust take your butts back!"
All the boys burst into laughter, while the girls' mouths dropped and the counselors looked rather angry. The boys quickly shut up and the girls grew expressions of anger on their faces.
"Boys, we meant a happy cheer rooting for them, not that. That was just uncalled for." Matt told them. Antonio just sat there and shook his head.
"I'm ashamed of you guys." He told them.
"What? We thought it was pretty funny." Otis said.
"Otis, shut up." Joe told him.
That afternoon because of the cheer, the boys ended up in the executive director's office. He was not pleased.
"Gentlemen, what do you have to say for yourselves?"
"What we did was wrong and uncalled for, we should apologize to the girls." Adam said.
The boys looked him with the "What the hell?!" look on their faces.
"Well it's true, what we did was pretty mean and I feel bad."
"Yeah we agree. It was pretty mean." Otis and Peter said at the same time.
"Now go apologize or you will all be packing your bags."
"Yes sir, Mr. Boden." The boys said, getting up and exiting his office.
During rest hour, they headed to the girls cabin. They were sitting on the front porch doing each other's nails. When they heard the boys coming, they all stopped what they were doing and folded their arms.
"Looks like the losers came to apologize." Megan said, giving them the evil eye.
"Yes, they came to apologize." Matt and Antonio said.
The boys kind of all just looked at each other, no one wanted to be the first to speak up to avoid embarrassment.
"I know what'll make them talk." Kim said, stepping off the porch and walking right over to Adam. She grabbed his arm and started pinching it with her sharp fingernails.
"Ouch! Alright! We're sorry! Will you forgive us?" He winced at the pain.
"I guess we can. But we still don't like any of you." Erin said as she went back to her nails.
"You don't impress us." Leslie said, taking a bite of her granola bar and sitting back down on the porch.
"Now go away, we don't want boy germs."
"Hey!" They all said at the same time.
"I was referring to my brother behind you"
"Ohh!" Everyone but Antonio started laughing. He gave Matt a dirty look.
"Dude come on, you have to admit that was funny." Matt nudged him.
"Shut up."
"I didn't think it was funny." Laura said. Everyone turned to look at her.
"You're only saying that because you're madly in love with him!" Peter butted in.
"Shut up, Peter!" She went inside the cabin to prevent anyone from seeing the grin that was growing on her face.
"Well that can't be any worse than Kim being head over heels for Adam." Leslie said out loud. This time, everyone started laughing.
"Oh REAL funny." Kim glared at her.
"We thought it was." Gabby said.
"I am going to get all of you back. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day, I will get you guys."
