Chapter 8
07:22, 23 March 2017The morning was slow, as no one wanted to get up. But they had to get up and ready so the boys could come in a couple days.
"I swear, if we have to take that three hour hike back to the road, someone is getting punched." Gabby said as she was packing up her things.
"It won't be so bad, it's fresh air." Kim told her.
"The girl with a crush on Adam says what?"
"What?"
"HA! I got you!"
"Not funny!" Kim made a face at her
"Well I thought it was funny."
At the other end of the dirt road that headed to the campsite, the buses were waiting for them. Everyone breathed signs of relief. All the counselors sat there and laughed.
"What? You kept us out here in this bug infested wilderness of who knows where. We're happy we don't have to walk another step." Sylvie said as they were all getting on the bus.
"Did you forget about all the unpacking you guys have to do when we get back to camp?" Ms. Danforth asked them.
Everyone groaned at that thought.
"Nothing like I told you so." Ms. Lopez said as she flopped down into her seat. When they got there, the boys were in pool, playing tether ball and hanging out on the soccer field. Kim spotted Adam and as fast as possible, she unpacked her stuff and ran right back up to the pool. He was sitting on one of the wooden benches on the pool deck.
"Hey!" She said as she sat next to him. He took his sunglasses off and smiled at her.
"Hey you. How was the camping trip?" He asked as he put his glasses in his pocket.
"Eh, it was good I guess. We stole Megan's candy."
He laughed. "Good job, didn't think you had a bad girl to you."
"That's the side of me you never ever want to see." She smirked up at him.
"I'll keep that in mind when we're married someday."
"What did you just say?!"
He laughed again. "I was just kidding."
"Good. We'd annoy each other to death if that ever happened." She playfully hit him.
Erin put her sunglasses on and leaned against the pool fence. She lowered them long enough to see Jay walking on that side, so she enters the pool area. She was walking one way as he was walking the other. When he passed by her, she moved her foot out. He tripped and ended up falling into the pool. Leslie saw the whole thing and started laughing.
At lunch that day, Mrs. Voight said she had an announcement to make, and everyone quieted down.
"Tonight is movie night!"
Cheer filled the mess hall. "Each table is going to vote for three movies. The two with the most votes will be played tonight. I have some counselors going around with notepads and pens. Please, make sure they are age appropriate!" She added in.
"But mom!" Justin whined.
"Justin, be quiet."
He grumbled to himself as he turned back towards his plate. Ms. Carter looked at the girls.
"So ladies, what movies will we be voting for?"
"Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead!" Leslie chimmed in with. All the girls at the table agreed.
"Sixteen Candles!" Gabby added in. "We got that for my brother when he turned sixteen and that movie is too funny! Although, it's a girly movie."
The girls all looked at each and for the final movie, they said "The Parent Trap!"
"I love that movie! Okay, we have our three!" Ms. Carter said, scribbling them onto the notepad.
After dinner that night, everyone gathered their sleeping bags, pillows, flashlights and everything else they would need as fast as possible. Kim, Laura, Julie, Erin, Leslie, Sylvie and Megan all had their sleeping bags set up in a group. When Adam came walking in, they gave Kim the sinister smiles.
"You should ask him to come sit with us. We won't mind at all." Leslie said, nudging Kim.
"What? NO. He's probably going to sit with Jay or Kelly or someone."
"Ask him to sit with us or I will." Gabby said.
"Oh heck NO."
"Then ask him." Sylvie said, digging into her care package she had received that afternoon.
"Alright fine!" She walked over to him. He smiled when he saw that.
"Hey Adam, want to come sit with me and the girls?" He looked back at them and they all waved.
"Um...sure. I'd like that."
"Guys, this is Adam."
"Hiya." Julie waved and offered him some candy. He set his sleeping bag up on the right side of Kim's.
"You guys should totally date." Laura said.
They both spit their drinks out when she said that.
"Laura, we're ten!" They both said at the same time.
"I know, I'm just saying." She turned to the girls. "Don't you guys think so?"
"Oh you know it."
By the end of the second movie, Kim and Adam had fallen asleep holding hands.
"Oh my gosh someone hand me their camera, this is the cutest thing ever!" Leslie said, trying to muffle her laughter as to not wake them up. Megan tossed her a camera and she caught it just before it hit the floor.
"Say cheese Mr. and Mrs. Ruzek." They all laughed as she snapped the picture. Ms. Danforth has fallen asleep on one of the exercise mats. She woke up and went over to gather the girls, telling them to head back to the cabin to catch some shut eye.
"Hey Adam, wake up!" Jay gently kicked him in the side. He groaned and did nothing but shuffle a little in his sleep.
"Adam, get your butt up! We have to head back to the cabin. It's time to go to sleep." Otis hit him with a pillow.
"Everyone move, I know what will get him up." Kelly said as he walking over. "Let's just drag him out while he's in the sleeping bag. Yes or no?"
"Yes!" Antonio hollered from the other side of the hall.
"Shut up, Antonio! Your opinion doesn't count!" Gabby replied.
"The baby says what?!"
"What?"
"HA! I got you!" He high fived Matt.
Kim yawned and slowly got up. When she realized she was holding Adam's hand, she shrieked and jumped back. "That did not just happen!" When she noticed the girls around her, her face turned brighter red than a lobster. Her shrieking woke up Adam and everyone headed back to their cabin's.
"Girls, make sure you use the bathroom, brush your teeth and anything else you need to do before heading to sleep."
After everyone was asleep, Kim dug for her flashlight shoved in her pillow and snuck out, being silent so she wouldn't wake anyone up. Adam met up with her at the big rock in the center of the paths that lead to the boys cabins. It was a rather chilly night, so he offered her his sweatshirt, she accepted and he put it on her.
"Warm enough?" He asked her.
"I am. Thank you." She smiled.
"There's something I want to give you." He fished into his pocket. "Now close your eyes and hold out your hand." She did as she was told.
"Okay, open them." She looked down into her cupped hands and a bracelet was in them.
"I made that for you in arts and crafts yesterday. I thought you'd like it."
"I really do, thank you." She gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
