Chapter 5

09:09, 21 March 2017

"Hey, watch yourself Matt. That's my little sister!" Antonio told him. Gabby turned around and gave him a dirty look.

"Shut up, Antonio. I'm just trying to be nice, but I guess you wouldn't know about that."

Everyone started laughing, except the counselors.

"Alright guys, that's enough." Ms. Lopez said, stifling her laughter because even she thought that was funny.

"What? It was funny." Leslie said, holding her hand behind her so Kim could give her a high five. Matt disappeared into the sports shed to get a couple volleyballs.

"Alright kids, now let's try and keep them out of the pool this year, alright?" He said, trying to make a joke.

"Got it." They all said. He tossed a ball to Kim.

"Alright Kim, now you have to pick five cabin mates to be in this round."

"How about top bunks versus bottom bunks?" Ms. Lopez suggested.

"Good idea." A gravely deep voice said.

"Oh hey, Mr. Voight!" She said when he came into view.

"For those who haven't met me yet, I'm Mr. Voight. I typically run the activity periods with assistance from the other great counselors here."

Erin laughed when she noticed the frightened look on Kim's face.

"He's a cool guy. Like I said before, just stay on his good side and you should be fine."

Sylvie offered to switch places with Kim.

"Alright, you big bunch of bed wetters ready?!" She tossed them an evil smile and they rolled their eyes at her. She served the ball so hard that it nailed Jay in the head and knocked him right on his butt.

"I'm sorry, are you okay?" She asked him, trying her hardest not to laugh.

"Yeah I'm fine, thank you." He said in a sarcastic tone. Erin turned away because her face was beat red from internal laughter.

"Watch it, Lindsay. I'll get you for that!"

"You watch it, Halstead. I can kick your-"

"Erin, that's enough." Hank said, she quickly shut up.

When the bottom bunks were playing, Leslie told the lie that she had to run to the bathroom and had Kim follow her.

"What's this about? Aren't we going to get in trouble for this?"

"As long as we're not caught, we'll be fine." She dashed into the cabin and back out within thirty seconds.

"What was that about?"

She held up two things of cling wrap and got a big grin on her face.

"Oh jeez. What are you planning on using that for?"

"Follow me and you'll find out."

They took the back trail around the camp to avoid being caught and appeared on the side where the boys' cabins were. Kim took a quick look around to make sure that no one was watching them, then they found the bathroom cubbies that belonged to Antonio and Matt's cabin. They both snuck in and Leslie asked her to hold the things of cling wrap while she ripped sheets of it off. She lifted up the toilet seats and wrapped each one in the wrap. Once she was done with that, she did the same thing to the shower handles and the sinks.

"Are you done?" Kim asked in a rush, not wanting to get caught.

"RWe're fine. One more thing."

She plugged the shower drains and they peeled out of there when they heard footsteps.

"Crap...it's Antonio. Let's get the heck out of here!" She said as they both ran back down the trail and up to the soccer field where their cabin now was.

"Where'd you guys go?" Julie asked them.

"A place." Kim managed to say.

"Let's just say the bed wetters are going to have some wet behinds." Leslie told her.

"No you did not!" Julie put her hand over her mouth.

"I did."

"We are so dead." Erin said, overhearing the conversation.

"They can't prove anything, we're pretty safe."

When they were taking a break in the game, Ms. Lopez came over to them.

"Alright girls so after lunch, we're hiking the mountain with the other cabins on our side, so get plenty of rest during rest hour."

"Me hike a mountain?! Are you mad woman?!" Gabby said.

"You'll be fine. I've hiked that mountain eight times and it's nothing. I think you're just being a drama queen." Antonio told her.

"Do you want me to hit you?" She folded her arms in a pout.

Kim barely touched her lunch.

"What's wrong?" Erin rubbed her back.

"I just...I don't fit in here."

"What are you talking about? We love you. The boys are just being stupid. At this age, they hate us. But five years from now, they'll be after us. You just wait and see." They laughed.

A couple counselors were walking around setting packages and letters under the benches. Erin got a letter from her mother and a package from her father. Kim was expecting nothing since it was only the second day, but her face lit up when a big package was set under the part of the bench she was sitting on. It was from her aunt and uncle down in Florida. It was so heavy that she needed help carrying it back to their cabin for rest hour. Ms. Danforth used a box cutter to help her open it. Inside were magazines, candy, nail polishes, a couple of books, stickers, scrap booking tools, a few cameras, a postcard from Florida, a "bottle of sunshine", some seashells, and a CD player with a couple CDs.

"No way! Is that what I think it is?!" Gabby said, picking up one of the CDs.

"The Backstreet Boys?! Ahh!" The girls all let out screams of excitement.

"Did someone say Backstreet Boys?!" Ms. Lopez poked her out from the counselors quarters. Kim held up the CDs.

"Hold on! I have a stereo!" She came back out and plugged it in. Kim handed her the CD. That entire hour they jammed out while painting each other's nails and did each other's hair. When it was time to get ready for the hike, they packed everything up, got into the proper clothes filled their water bottles and took all the necessary precautions. The other girls were all just standing in a big mound awaiting instructions. Leslie went and found Megan.

"Hey Meg." She said.

"Hey there little sis. Who's this?" She asked when she noticed Kim.

"This is my friend Kim. Kim, this is my sister Megan."

"Nice to meet you." Megan shook her hand.

"So exactly how far away is this mountain?"

"Oh we just take the back road here. It's about a ten minute walk up that way." Megan said, pointing up the road.

"There better be shade up there or I'm throwing Antonio in that pool." Gabby said as she fixed her ponytail.

"There's blueberries." Another girl said.

"Ha. Good one. I'm Gabby."

"Laura." The girl smiled.

"Hey aren't you in my cabin?" Gabby asked.

"Deer Beach? Yep, that's my cabin."

"Oh my gosh I thought that was you! I didn't know your name yet, so I didn't want to embarrass myself."

"It's all good. Nice to meet you."

As it turns out, the girls weren't going to be the only ones. Laura turned just in time to see the boys coming their way.

"Oh this is just grand." She rolled her eyes at the sight of them.

"What is?" Erin asked, Laura grabbed her shoulders and turned her around.

"Oh gross!" Erin yelped. The girls laughed.

"Alright boys, get in line by cabin!" Antonio yelled.

"WOW. Who is that?!" Laura asked she she spotted Antonio.
