⫣2⫦ Hello, Boys

(Uhh, so sweet...)

I walk into the classroom, a step behind the teacher.
The class is loud, and the students are shouting, throwing papers and laughing.
I almost falter a step. I'm not used to this.
In my old school, the girls usually sat and talked quietly, always portraying the regal and cultured young woman of posh parents, wealth spewing out of their fingertips and their arrogance knowing no limits.
Only when the class finally notices the teacher do the voices ebb down and students drag themselves slowly to their seats with little groans.
They settle down, and finally notice me, all eyes directed at the new girl standing behind the teacher.
I feel uncomfortable at all their stares, my hands fiddling in front of me, but I try to keep my back straight as I stare at nothing in front of me, hoping to get this over with quick. The teacher makes me stand at the front then and introduce myself. My voice wavers a bit, and I bite my lip nervously.
"Hi, my name is Lian Cheol. I am a transfer from Daegu. Please take care of me."
I bow to my waist and then breath out relieved when I get to take a seat. A girl near the back shoots me a big smile and waves me over. I am a bit surprised at the friendly welcome, but I only smile and take a seat beside her.
"Hi, I'm Momo. It's nice to meet you Lian," she beams at me the moment my ass hits the chair.
She has long dark hair which parts into two pony tails with bangs hanging into her forehead. The result is cuteness overload, so much, it makes her appear child-like, yet her smile seems sincere.I nod, still feeling a little uncomfortable though. Why, I can't say.
"Nice to meet you too, Momo. Thanks for letting me sit here."
"No problem. I'm actually really excited to have a new classmate."
I feel relieved as I unpack my things and the class starts. Considering everything, this is a good first start to my new life.I kept my introduction short, didn't embarrass myself and already met a friendly person. It couldn't have gone much better actually.
That is until the classroom door bangs open and two boys come sprawling in, both tall and striking, soda cans in their hand and their bags lazily thrown over their shoulders. The class grows silent and even the teacher stops lecturing for a moment. The stillness in the air is almost uncanny as the two boys slender in like they're used to it, not even the slightest sign of apology on their faces.
The one to the left is tall, muscly but not in a bulky way. What I can see through his uniform is definitely muscles, but his height and the small waist in comparison to his broad shoulders gifts him a lean appearance.
The swagger with which he walks is one only mastered by a few, both lazy and lethal.
His black hair is styled a little unruly and long enough to fall into his face and cover the base of his neck. Beneath the jacket of his school uniform, the white blouse is opened to reveal his strong neckline and tanned skin, his tie loosely hanging around his neck like an abandoned necklace.
He has a strikingly handsome face and large, dark eyes.
A bad boy, no doubt, by the hand tattoos, the large amount of piercings and earrings and the pack of cigarettes half visible from his pockets.
But it's not him I am staring at.
It's the boy to his right, equally dressed in the schools uniform, minus the tie and a familiar teasing smile on his lip.
A smile I couldn't get out of my head all night.
I stare as he makes his way to the back of the classroom. In broad daylight, he is downright dashing. I really don't blame the girl next to me drooling a little. The boy next to Taehyung only shoots the teacher a nod and an evil grin and I am stunned to see the teacher just- ignore them. Nodding like it's those two boys who make the rules, not him.
Undoubtedly this isn't the first time they are late to class.
But my real focus is on Taehyung, who doesn't even bother to look at the teacher- no!
His gaze is solely fixed on me as he slanders in.
I blink. Twice. Only to make sure I am not trapped in another sort off dream but there is no stopping the grinning boy from reaching my desk.
I don't know what to do as he comes to a stop in front of me, my breath stuttering.I notice how the entire class has gone even more quiet, all eyes on Taehyung and me.Curious. Hanging on to every word, the teacher all but forgotten.
Slowly, aware of the many eyes, Taehyung leans down, his hands coming to a rest on my desk. He angles his face close- close enough for me to see my own reflection in his dark eyes. Mischief seems to seep out of them like leaking oil.And this bastard is enjoying this immensely.
"Told you we're gonna see each other, Lian."
I hold my breath and only stare at him, not sure what to say. Too stunned to even understand that the hot, burning liquid in my veins is my rising anger.
Then he winks- freaking winks at me and walks to the desk and chair at the very back of the classroom where the other boy has already taken a seat. There's an equally amused smile on his lips, as if he's watching his favourite K-drama unfold in front of him, one leg popped up on the desk, the other bouncing up and down a little. He gives me a little wave when he sees me staring.
The teacher clears his throat loud enough for my focus to return and resumes the class. My head is burning up, my cheeks probably a dark shade of red as I can still feel the curious glances I receive from my new classmates mixing with the anger. How dare this Taehyung guy turn this almost perfect day into a mess?
A finger pokes me in my ribs and I turn to look at Momo, her eyes wide and curious too.
"How the hell do you know Taehyung?"
I sigh.I really don't feel like telling, mostly because it will probably reveal how idiotic I was. But Momo only continues to throw me a pleading look and I sigh, then quickly but quietly tell her what happened the other night. When I finish, she only shakes her head.
"Well, I'm sorry to tell you this, but he lied."
I look back, confused.
"Lied about what?"
Momo looks uncomfortable and glances to the back too. Taehyung seems to be asleep on the desk while the other boy is immersed in a game on his phone. There is no "Could you turn off your Cell phone please," from the teacher, just more ignorance.Jeez, the dude even blasts the video game loudly through the room, not giving a care in the world.
"Well, I'm not sure about his parents or anything since he never even mentions them, but he lives with the other BTS members in an abandoned junkyard. I doubt he's ever lived in a proper house before."
I look at her, unsure what to ask first, but then just go with the obvious one.
"What's BTS, some sort of club?"
She shakes her head and then comes closer, her whisper barely audible.
"They're a gang."
I stare at her with wide eyes, my stomach plunging to the floor when I remember Taehyung in my garden yesterday- not an innocent, previous resident, but a gang member?! And I just let him walk away, even promising not to tell my parents?
Momo continues, barely aware I am going through it right now.
"Him, Jungkook next to him and five others. They call themselves BTS as a short from for Be The Savage or something- their life motto as it seems. Everyone knows them. They are kinda famous around here. And feared..."
I look back, suddenly seeing them with different eyes- not just bad boys but really, really bad boys.
I turn back to Momo.
"Who are the other five?"
She looks to the front, making sure the teacher is occupied with something on the blackboard and then excitedly turns to me again.
"So, there is their leader, Kim Namjoon- or RM as he is known under his gang name. No idea what the letters stand for, but I like to call him Rap Monster."She giggles under her breath and one of my eyebrows jump up in surprise. Wow. She sound more like she's talking about her favourite boyband.
And is that a blush on her cheeks?
"It's because he is a genius! He's about the smartest person ever and brilliant with words. He can literally talk himself out of any trouble easily. Scary if you ask me. He already graduated, but I don't really know what he is up to these days. Most likely nothing good."
The teacher turns around to quickly summon up what he said, but the moment his back is turned again, Momo keeps on whispering excitedly:
"Then there is Kim Seokjin- or just Jin, the oldest, and if you ask me, one of the most handsome of them all. And, he is rich too."
I have to do my best not to laugh at her cuteness- and her obsession even as I am getting seriously worried for the girl.
"If he is so rich and handsome, why is he in a gang that lives on a Junkyard?"
Momo smiles secretively, mystery written in her eyes.
"Oh, he might have stolen his fathers porch and trashed it when he was fourteen or so. Only know that he got kicked out by his dad.But they have another rich boy in their group: Jung Hoseok. He seems pretty fun and easy going, that's why everyone is calling him J-Hope. I think he is the only one who occasional still goes home, but I heard his loaded parents don't really give a shit whether he's there or not. Must really suck, I guess, if he prefers a junkyard over a villa."Oh, and then there is Suga. A total bad boy.Like... full on classic straight out of a mafia romance book kinda bad boy."
Well, now I am definitely worried for her, which she obviously doesn't notice, being all too enticed with the boys of BTS.
"He never went to this school. I heard he even made time in Juvie, but no idea why. Must have been something pretty fucked up.He is quiet and I barely ever saw him smile. Uh, that's so hot, if you ask me. He really plays the unreachable gangster part well."
I feel almost bad about interrupting her giddy rant, but I kinda need her to move on until she gets to the Taehyung part.
"And what about the other three?"
"Oh, you mean the maknae line? They're the cutest, no kidding. Jimin is the only one of them who goes to the school across the street. Such a shame- he really has that sexy thing going for him- always looks like a total model when he walks. I just know that his dad was some kind of crime lord in Busan and Jimin didn't want anything to do with that shit, so he ran away from there. Ironic since he now joined a gang. And then Jungkook- ah, just look at him, he's so sexy."
She turns, a dreamy expression on her face, and I won't be surprised if she starts drooling too. Which I really can't blame her for. Jungkook is gorgeous.
"What's his story, oh, don't tell me!" I jokingly reply. "Let me guess: his parents are some drug lords, or dealing in international espionage? Perhaps they own the city?"
I'm trying my best to sound funny, but Momo's dreamy expression suddenly darkens a little.
"Actually, he's an orphan."
I swallow hard. Great! Now I feel like a complete asshole.
"He was in another gang before BTS, called X-EXO. They don't go to this school- thankfully. The only thing scarier than BTS is X-EXO. And Jungkook has been in both! Pretty badass, right?"
"And Taehyung?" I finally ask and I swear I saw him stir in his nap, as if he heard me whisper his name.
I look back at Momo, who isn't answering. She only studies me, looking me over nervously. The giddy, dreamlike expression is gone form her face, replaced by something serious.
"Look, the others- they are all bad guys and troublemakers - but Taehyung..."
She pauses, nipping at her lower lip.
"No one knows anything about him- not where he's from, or what his parent's do, not a single thing from before three years since he moved here. But there is something dark in him. Something really dangerous, I think. I know we've just met, but..." she breaks off again, looking at me with worried eyes.
"Can you just maybe stay away from him? He really isn't good influence. Actually, none of them are. Better keep your distance."
I almost let out a snort. "Aren't you the one who was gushing about them like they are celebrities?"
Momo only shrugs her shoulder. "Yeah. But I also treat them like that. I watch from afar! I don't go near them. So please: Do the same?"
There is absolutely no reason from me to not immediately agree. Even if she didn't warn me, these boys are clearly up to no good, and I am already planning to stay far, far away. They are the kind of people my parents always warned me about.
But I can't help but stare back at Taehyung's resting face, looking far too handsome and... vulnerable, and for a moment I can't do anything but look at him.
"Lian? Hey? You okay?"
I snap my head back to Momo and realize I must have drifted off for a moment.Great. Now I am also a hypocrite for judging other girls to drool over boys.
I play it off with a soft laugh.
"Don't worry. I really don't want anything to do with them. I just want to finish the last year of high school with good grades and no trouble."And I mean that. Maybe just with a little bit more fun included, thank you.
Momo looks a bit more at ease and finally smiles again.
"Great! Then we should probably concentrate on class then."
I smile in agreement.
But against every sane thought in my head, I still turn around to look at Taehyung one more time. And every time I do it again, I swear it's the last time.
