CHAPTER 39

“And Alec, Magnus…please stay out of this…this is not something you can get involved in …”

“But dad…” Magnus tried to speak.

“No buts…I told you once, you didn’t listen…now you better listen to me before you make things worse…” Asmodeus said in a partially angry and demanding voice.

Alec was speechless he was still staring at the document in his hand. He couldn’t believe that Patrick whom he knew since a kid would do something like this to Robert and to him.

“Alexander…” Magnus said keeping his hand on Alec’s shoulder. 

Alec suddenly burst into tears and hugged Magnus. Magnus caressed his back until he calmed down. 

“I thought I could trust him Mags…” he said through his tears “he betrayed me…”

Magnus couldn’t find the words to comfort him so he continued to caress his head. 

After few minute Alec sat up straight and wiped his tears still slightly sobbing. Asmodeus stood up from his seat and came to sit next to Alec. 

“My boy, in this world trust is something that can be easily broken. Sometime the ones closest to you can be the one to take you down…that’s life Alec…you are still so young” he said putting his hand on Alec head and patted him “you will understand how the world work with time…take this as a lesson…” he said and stood up and walked out of the room.

“Alexander…I’ll always be there for you…we’ll figure everything out together okay?” Magnus said holding Alec’s hand.

Alec nodded and put his head on Magnus’s shoulder.

Alec was in his room the whole day, crying from time to time. Magnus felt so bad but he didn’t know what he could do to make Alec feel better. He tried to make Alec’s favourite dishes but he refused to eat. Then he tried to make him play some games but he refused it as well.

“Alexander…you haven’t eaten the whole day… I made some soup please have some” Magnus said bringing the bowl of soup into the room.

“Mags I told you…I don’t feel like eating…”

Magnus sighed. “Okay then…I’m also not going to have dinner…let’s sleep” he said and sat on the other side of the bed.

Alec thought for a few minutes and looked at Magnus who was getting ready to sleep. “Fine…I’ll have some soup…”

Magnus smiled and quickly got down from the bed and brought the soup. “I’ll feed you” he said smiling. Alec nodded with a faint smile.

A few days passed and things were very hectic at work. 

The project with Roberts company was very successful and Magnus was really satisfied about it. 

Alec on the other hand was trying to make up his mind about the way he thought of his dad. It was hard for him but he tried hard. Izzy, Jace and the others were also told about the whole situation except for the part that it was Patrick who did everything.

Asmodeus’s plan to trap Patrick was also slowly coming into place. He had collected all the necessary details to reveal everything during the final meeting with the company. 

Finally, after weeks of preparation and hard work the day arrived. Alec knew what was going to happen and he was nervous. He hasn’t met Patrick after their last meeting at the café. Alec and Magnus waited for the meeting to start and they had everything planned out.

“Hello Mr. Bane” Robert said entering the meeting room.

Alec at the corner of the room saw his father entering. Robert looked at Alec for a split second and looked away. The Patrick entered the room with a huge smile. Alec clenched his fists in anger. Even seeing him form a distance made Alec’s blood boil.

Asmodeus without any difference shook hands with him and smiled.

Once the meeting was coming to an end, Hayley entered the room and distributed a set of documents to everyone. 

Hayley eyed Asmodeus and nodded.

“Okay now that we have finally completed the project, Mr. lightwood I would like to add something more…everyone please take a look at the document that you just received…”

Asmodeus continued to explain about the bankruptcy.

Patrick’s face started to change and he knew that everything was going wrong. 

Patrick stood up and shouted at the top of his lungs. But as the security guards entered he was dragged out of the room.

Asmodeus smiled at Robert “I did my part…now it’s your turn…” he said in a low voice.

Robert nodded and walked out of the room. 

“Alec, Magnus…now everything will be fine…thank you for trusting me…” Asmodeus said patting their shoulder. He walked back to the podium. 

“I have one more thing to announce…” he said and looked at Magnus.
