CHAPTER 38

Why is Alexander still inside? Patrick left 5 minutes ago…Magnus thought to himself getting out of the car. He walked inside the café and saw Alec sitting at the corner staring blankly at his coffee.

“Alexander are you okay?” he asked putting his hand over Alec’s shoulder.

Alec startled came back to his senses. “Mags when did you come inside?”

“Just now…Patrick left few minutes ago…”

Alec looked at Magnus but remained silent.

Magnus sat on the chair opposite to Alec and held his hand. “Baby what did he say? Is it more serious than we thought?”

Alec shook his head. 

“Can you tell me?” Magnus asked not knowing how Alec would respond.

Alec lifted his head and looked at Magnus.

I want to ask you why you hid that you met dad…I want to ask you why you lied…but I know deep inside that you did it for me… Alec thought as tears ran down his cheeks.

“Baby what’s wrong?” Magnus quickly stood up and sat next to Alec and made Alec put his head on Magnus’s shoulder and patted his head.

“Baby, if it’s too hard to tell me right now…you don’t have to…take your time…”

Alec wiped his tears and lifted his head and looked at Magnus.

“Can we go home?” 

Magnus took a few seconds to answer “Sure baby, I’ll tell Hayley to take care of the last meeting…let’s go…” Magnus said holding Alec’s hand. 

They walked to the car holding each other’s hands.

“Mags…I know that you me my dad alone…” Alec said sitting down on their bed.

Magnus tried to say something but he was cut off.

“It’s fine Mags…I know you had your reasons to hide it from me…And it happened in the past I don’t want to fight with you anymore…”

Magnus was silent.

Alec noticing that Magnus was really upset he walked to him and held his hand and made him sit next to him on the bed. 

“I’m really fine about it Mags…but don’t do it ever again” Alec said touching Magnus’s cheek.

Magnus nodded and waited for Alec to respond.

Alec caressed Magnus’s hand with his thumb “Mags…I think we were wrong about my dad…” he said with tears once more.

Magnus looked at Alec with eyes of confusion. Alec then explained the whole story. 

Magnus widened his eyes listening to it and was shocked to know the truth.

“So it was all because of the Valentine guy?” he asked once Alec finished his explanation.

Alec nodded.

“Do you think we should talk to your dad?” Magnus asked

“I don’t understand what I should do…maybe we should talk to your dad first?”

Magnus thought for some time and nodded.

“Let’s go and meet him tomorrow…”

Alec nodded.

The next day it was a Saturday, both Magnus and Alec went to meet Asmodeus and waited outside in the living room till he finished his meeting. Alec was a bit nervous, so was Magnus. What his father said about not to dig into this case was repeatedly playing inside his head and he was thinking what kind of reaction his father would have when they talk to him.

“Alexander, remember what I said…don’t tell him anything about Patrick…”

Alec nodded.

Finally, when Asmodeus finished his meeting, he came outside.

“My boys…what do you want to talk about…it sounded pretty urgent…” he said looking at Magnus raising an eyebrow.

They didn’t answer.

“Come…let’s go inside, we can’t talk out here… you know walls have ears…” he said and gestured them to follow him into his study.

Alec and Magnus followed him and sat down on the comfortable couch.

“So what is it that you want to tell me…” he asked munching on a cookie and offered them to the two boys but they were not in the mood for cookies.

“We…uh…” Magnus struggled.

Alec took a deep breath “We want to talk to you about my dad…”

Asmodeus paused what he was doing and looked at Alec. “What about him?”

“I…” Alec looked at Magnus and Magnus nodded “We know the reason behind your decision to let him take the contract and I know why everything happened…but I don’t know much details…I just know the Valentine guy destroyed my dad’s company…” Alec said with a single breath.

Asmodeus sat back and Alec looked at him nervously.

“Who told you this my boy?” Asmodeus asked calmly.

“I just found out…” he said. He was ready for this question anyways but didn’t know how it would go although he practised it in his head a hundred times.

“Just found out?” Asmodeus asked raising an eyebrow.

“Yes…” Alec said.

“How would you just find something out?” 

“Dad…” Magnus tried to interrupt but Asmodeus stopped him by gesturing with his hand.

Asmodeus stood up and walked to his table and took a document.

“Alec, are you sure that you know the real truth of what actually happened?” 

Alec looked at Asmodeus confused. Magnus was also confused.

“Let me guess…Patrick told you this right?” Asmodeus asked sitting down again.

Magnus and Alec were shocked. 

“Don’t be too shocked…I knew this would happen…I knew even though how many time I tell you not to dig into this…that you would” he said looking at Magnus.

Magnus couldn’t face his dad so he just kept his eyes on the floor.

“Boys…you two were fooled…”

“WHAT?! What do you mean dad?” Magnus asked.

“Let me make this clearer for you…” Asmodeus said bending forward and keeping the document on the table in front of Alec and Magnus. 

“Did he say that it was Valentine?” Asmodeus said with a smirk and gestured them to check the document.

Alec opened the document and his eyes widened. Magnus seeing Alec’s reaction took the document to check and had the same reaction.

“What does this mean?” Magnus asked.

“What you are seeing is the info that I gathered about Patrick…and yes what you are thinking is correct…it was Patrick all along…but he framed Valentine…and this is the evidence that I’ve been collecting with your dad Alec…”

The two boys were speechless.

“Patrick has been kept in the dark about this for a long time…he doesn’t know that I know about this…I want you two to keep that in mind…”

“And Alec, Magnus…please stay out of this…this is not something you can get involved in …”
