Epilogue

It was already well into the night as I helped Soobin dry off after her shower. She was humming some random tune as I bent down to meet her height, rubbing the fabric of the towel against her long, black strands to get the water out of them.
"What's that you're humming?" I asked, proceeding with drying the rest of the water droplets off her.
"A song I learned on the piano today," she answered, a certain delicateness highlighted in her voice. "Uncle Baekhyun has been teaching me to play." I just smiled at her and then assisted her in getting her pajamas on.
"All done," I said, earning a sleepy smile from her. "Now, why don't you go hop in bed and I'll be back in a minute to tuck you in, okay?"
"Okay," she replied. I kissed her forehead quickly and then she walked out of the bathroom and toward her bedroom. I bent over to pick up her dirty clothes and the wet towel off the ground before throwing them in the hamper near the door.
"Is she all ready for bed?" Kyungsoo asked as he finished packing her lunch for the next day.
"Yep," I said. He smiled and walked over to the refrigerator door, placing the small, pink lunch box inside. Snaking my arms around his waist and pulling his body closer to mine, I kissed him passionately on the lips.
"Daddy!" Soobin shouted from down the hall, interrupting our kiss. "I'm ready for bed!"
"Alright, I'll be there in a second," I said after breaking the kiss. "Duty calls," I said, facing him again. He just smiled, letting out a small chuckle. I headed down the hall to her room where we saw her lying in bed.
"Goodnight, angel," Kyungsoo said, sticking his head in the doorway on the way to our room.
"Goodnight, dad," she replied with an endearing smile.
"I'll be in bed," he said to me next.
"Okay, be right there." He gave me one more smile before he disappeared down the hall.
"Daddy, will you tell me a story?" she asked, her little head resting against the pillow.
"Alright, but I'll have to make on up since we've been through every single one at least a million times," I said, adjusting my position so I was now sitting on her bed, lying beside her. She giggled as I got more comfortable, placing an arm around her.
"Once upon a time, there was a lion cub and a baby lamb and they both lived with their owners, the lion in the circus and the lamb on a farm. Then one day, the lamb got lost after wandering off too far. The lion found the lamb and lead it in what it thought was the right direction. But when night fell and they both got lost. At first, they were confused and homesick, but as they got to know each other, they became best friends and comforted each other. When their owners, the ring leader and the farmer, found them, they didn't let them be together, so the ring leader moved the lion away with the rest of the circus. The lamb was very sad without the lion, and the lion missed the lamb very much. But then one day a couple of years later, when the lion and lamb were all grown up, they found each other again. They were so happy to see each other again that they promised to never part ways again. Some people still don't like to see the lion and the lamb together, but they didn't care because they had each other and that was all that mattered."
"So they lived happily ever after?" she asked with a hopeful smile.
"Yes, they did," I said. Her smile grew and I returned it with a smile of my own. I sighed sleepily and got off her bed. "Alrighty, now you go to sleep and I'll see you in the morning, okay?"
"Okay," she yawned. "I love you, daddy."
"I love you, too, sweetheart," I said before I shut off her light and closed the door. I went to my room and changed into my nightclothes. I plopped in bed as he just kept reading.
"That was a great story," he said closing his book and looking at me. I smiled in response as I laid settled into the bed.
"It was pretty awesome, wasn't it?" I said, getting a small laugh from him. He set his book on the nightstand and clicked the lamp off before scooting closer to me.
"Am I really a lamb though?" he asked just as my eyes were about to go shut.
"Well you sure as hell aren't a lion," I said. He gently hit me and I laughed.
"Jerk," he said with a grin. I snickered again and adjusted the pillows. "Oh yeah, I wanted to ask. Did you ever invite your parents to her birthday party next weekend?"
I stopped moving, my expression lowering into a scowl. "Why would I do that?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. She's turning 9, so I thought you would have reached out to them by now."
Sighing, I laid my head on the pillow. "I refuse to reach out to them until they get over themselves and their stupid beliefs," I replied, turning my eyes to him for a moment. "I went against my better judgment and told them we were adopting a child, but I did hear back? No, I didn't, which tells me they wouldn't be good company to have anyway. I don't need them ruining her special day with their bigotry." He was still looking at me once I finished with another short sigh, the faintest of smiles gracing his lips. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason," he said, sighing himself as he laid down and snuggled next to me. "I just love you."
I smiled and wrapped my arm around him. "I just love you, too," I said, leaning down to kiss the top of his head. I heard him hum and then we both closed our eyes, fall into an untarnished sleep.
