Five

I woke up Sunday and I was in my bed. I didn't know how I got there, but a really bad headache prevented me from thinking about it too much. Most of my memories from the night before ceased to exist--that is excluding the kiss. That was one memory that alcohol could not get rid of.
Monday brought some physical relief, but I still felt terrible emotionally. Everything felt jumbled. I was still so focused on that kiss for some reason and I was worried that Chanyeol would be disappointed in me for not keeping my word. He didn't show any signs of being upset with me at school, but that didn't make the guilty feeling in my stomach go away.
I walked into the cafeteria at lunch and headed over to our usual table without stopping to get food. I plopped in the chair next to Chanyeol and I could feel his eyes go on me instantly.
"Ugh, I think I still have a hangover," Tao said before laying his head on the table with a loud thump.
"Never. Again," Luhan commented, looking like he was staring into space.
"How are you feeling, Soo?" Chanyeol asked me. I looked at him, our eyes meeting.
"Terrible," I answered, sorrow in my eyes. He smiled faintly and rubbed my back gently. I moved my chair closer to his and laid my head on his shoulder. "Sorry for all the trouble I caused you. You were right. I should have listened to you and stayed home," I said. He smiled and put an arm around me in a brief hug.
"It's okay," he said with a little chuckle. "I'm just glad I was able to get you home safely. You're lucky I'm a quick thinker. I don't know what your mom would have done if I didn't come up with that studying excuse."
"I would really be dead, that's what," I said as I took my head off his shoulder, earning another laugh from him. Xiumin came over to our table a few minutes later.
"Hey, was that party awesome or what?" he asked as he sat rested his hands on the back of Luhan's chair, a big smile on his face.
"I honestly don't remember," Tao replied, looking up at him. "It's all one big blur."
"That means it was," he said. "Did you have fun D.O?" I looked at him blankly, not really knowing what to say in response. It was hard to remember if I had a good time when the only moment I could vividly relive was the kiss.
"I-I guess so," I said. "It was a more interesting than I thought it would be."
"I'd say so. That was one hell of a kiss Kai gave you," he said as he reinforced his bag over his shoulder. Chanyeol almost choked on his drink and coughed.
"W-What?" he asked, a few stray coughs still coming out. Everyone was looking at me, waiting for me to explain. "Someone kissed you?"
"It was just a dare," I said nervously, shaking my head a little too frantically. "It wasn't like that."
"What was just a dare?" Chanyeol pressed on. I hesitated, but I knew I had to tell him.
"We were playing truth or dare and Kai got dared to kiss someone of his choice for thirty seconds and that someone just happened to be me," I explained nonchantly. He remained silent as he got a surprised look on his face.
"And it was a good thirty seconds," Xiumin added with a snicker. "I mean, there was tongue and everything. You really should have been there to see it, man." I glared at him and he seemed to have gotten the message. "I-I'll see you around," he said before walking away. I looked back at Chanyeol who was now gazing at the table, like he was in a trance or deep thought. I looked away too, with a sigh.
If he wasn't upset with me before, he definitely was now.
*******
I felt a lot better in the next days that passed, but I was still worried about Chanyeol. He tried to act as if he was okay with what happened at the party, but I had known him long enough to know he wasn't. I knew how worried about how drunk I got, so I could only imagine how nervous he felt for me when he found I was kissing random people, too.
After math was over, I left to go to the bathroom quickly. I was on my way back to class when I heard someone's voice from beside me suddenly said,
"Did you recover from the party?"
My eyes moved to find Kai beside me, one hand shoved in his pocket and a faint grin pulling at the corner of his lips. I didn't answer at first, as I was trying to comprehend what was happening and why he was talking to me. I glanced around a couple of times, thinking he wasn't actually talking to me. But there he was, just looking at me and waiting for me to answer him.
"U-Um, well t-today I did," I said awkwardly, causing him to smile a little more. "Sunday was pretty b-bad."
"That's how it goes. Especially when you're a first-time drinker," he said. I hummed, slightly embarrassed that he could tell it was my first time drinking.
"W-Were you okay? I mean, d-did you like have a really bad hangover?" I asked.
"Not really, but then again, I didn't really get as wasted as everyone else," he said. That's the trick, I guess, drink but drink wisely. Oh, and never drink on an empty stomach. That helps."
"Oh, well that would have been nice to know before the party," I said, slightly mumbling but making him laugh anyway.
"Well, I'll let you go before the bell rings. Just wanted to check on you and make sure you were okay," he said, putting on another smile that seemed to make my heart skip a beat.
"Thanks." I smiled a little but tried to control how big my smile got. He gave me a short wave and then walked off, sticking his other hand in his pocket. I watched him for a while and then finally tore my eyes away and headed back to class.
And here I thought he'd long forgotten about me.
A/N
I'm still combining chapters whenever I see fit, so if the story has less chapters than you remember, that's why. Thanks for reading!
