The car ride to the Martin's house had been silent. The air was tense considering everything that happened in the last few hours. Allison, who was driving, glanced back to Lucy, who was in the backseat. The car was parked, and Lydia had yet to get out. Lucy and Allison, who knew everything, made a silent agreement to lie to Lydia. Again.
Lucy's knee bounced as Allison turned to speak to Lydia. "I need you to promise that you won't say anything about what just happened."
"I'll promise not to say anything about what just happened if one of you can tell me what the hell just happened." Lydia retorted, looking at both her friends expectantly.
"It's..." Allison started, sighing. "It's kind of complicated." Her vague explanation didn't console Lydia at all. If anything, it only further angered and confused the strawberry blonde.
"Well, how about you start with why Derek was there? Or where Jackson went? Or what's wrong with Erica?" When her questions were met with empty silence, Lydia frowned. "Oh, do you need a minute to come up with a plausible lie?"
"Part of the reason why I'm asking is because Scott and I aren't supposed to be seeing each other, okay? So, it's better if you just keep what you know to yourself." Allison looked down, avoiding her friend's questions.
Lydia turned to the backseat, raising an eyebrow when she locked eyes with a silent Lucy. The brunette's knee was still bouncing as she fiddled with her mother's necklace. "Listen, Lyds, we genuinely just wanted to have a study group. I don't know what Derek was doing there. I don't know where Jackson went. You were the last person to see him, remember? And I don't know what's wrong with Erica. I hardly know her."
Lydia pursed her lips. "Fine." She turned back to Allison, who looked at her in remorse. "I'll keep what I know about you and your boyfriend, which is nothing, to myself." She snapped, reaching for the door handle when Allison gripped her wrist.
"Hey. He's not just my boyfriend. You get that, right?"
"Let me go," Lydia demanded, trying to pull her arm back.
"Just for one second, please, try and remember-" Allison begged.
"-Remember what?" Lydia spat, glaring at her friend.
"What it feels like," Allison started, a small smile gracing her lips. "All of those times in school when you see him standing down the hall and you can't breathe until you're with him. Or those times in class when you can't stop looking at the clock because you know that he's standing right out there waiting for you. Don't you remember what that's like?"
"No."
"What do you mean? You've had boyfriends." Allison asked, moving her hand to Lydia's clenched fist. Lucy reached up, resting her hand gently on Lydia's shoulder.
"None like that," Lydia spoke sadly, brushing her friends' comfort away as she left the car.
After Scott found Jackson's location, Stiles rushed to pick Lucy up. She knew chasing after the Kanima was dangerous, but if Stiles could do it so could she. The two recapped her conversation with Lydia on the way there; Lucy ensuring Stiles that Lydia would keep everything quiet. When they finally arrived, they jumped out of the Jeep and walked up to what seemed like a bar.
Stiles walked right up to Scott as Lucy took in the area around them. Her brother had been peering around the corner in search of the Kanima until Stiles leant towards him, frightening the werewolf.
"Sorry! I'm sorry." Stiles apologized, backing away with his hands raised. "Did you see where he went?" He asked, cautiously leaning forwards again.
"I lost him." Scott sighed, rubbing his eyes as he refrained from looking at his sister and best friend. Lucy scanned the buildings that surrounded them, searching for any sight of Jackson.
"What? You couldn't catch his scent?" Stiles spluttered, waving his hands around. The boys continued to discuss the whereabouts and intention of the creature while Lucy paced the alley they were in. She drifted into her own thoughts, going back to her conversation with Lydia. She felt bad for her friend, having a fairly good idea about the type of boys she had been with previously. Boys like Jackson. She gritted her teeth as she thought about it.
"What? Scott, come on. I'm 147 pounds of pale skin and fragile bone, okay? Sarcasm is my only defense." Stiles retorted, his words pulling Lucy back to the task at hand. As her eyes scaled the building, she bit her lip as she laughed at Stiles' comment about himself.
With her eyes trained on the building, she missed the way the sarcastic boy whipped around and smiled when he heard her laugh. She was laughing at something he said. Surely, that meant she thought he was funny!
"Just help me find it," Scott complained. Lucy almost corrected him, because it was Jackson they were looking for, not a random 'it' but she decided against it.
"Did anybody else see him back at your house?" Stiles asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"I mean, I don't think so, but he already passed Derek's test anyway," Scott argued. "But the question is, how?"
"When's the Kanima not the Kanima?" Lucy mumbled, trying to find an answer. "Wait, it's Jackson!"
"Yeah," Stiles retorted. "We know it's Jackson."
"No, no you don't get it." Lucy grabbed Stiles' shoulders, forcing him to look at her. He gulped, nerves setting in as he stared into her eyes. "When's the Kanima not the Kanima?" She repeated. Stiles shrugged, unable to form coherent words with her being so close. "When it's Jackson! The Kanima isn't the Kanima when it's Jackson, because that's when he's in his human form. Jackson and the Kanima are almost like two different beings! That's how he passed Derek's test!"
"Right..." Stiles relaxed when Lucy took her hands off his shoulders and stepped back. "Right, that makes sense. But how did you and Lydia not pass it, then? I mean you guys aren't the Kanima, but it's venom didn't affect you."
At the reminder of her test with Isaac, Lucy frowned. "I don't know. But I don't appreciate the two of you not saying anything about the crystal being coated in venom."
"We needed to know." Scott reminded her.
"You still could've warned me. What if I was paralyzed in front of everyone?" Lucy crossed her arms, looking from Scott to Stiles. The Stilinski boy could only mutter an apology, the guilt eating him up inside.
Glancing up at the roof, Stiles spotted Jackson crawling through an upper window. Slapping his friend's shoulder repeatedly, he pointed up. "Uh dude. See that?" The siblings looked up, gasping as they watched the scaly tail slip between the gap in the window. "What's he gonna do in there?"
"I know who he's after." Scott groaned, throwing his head back against the wall. "Armani."
The trio moved around the back of the club, looking for a way inside. Lucy and Stiles looked for an open window or door, while Scott reached for a locked handle and ripped it off. "All right, maybe there's like a, uh, like a window we could climb through, or some kind of... some kind of handle that we could rip off with supernatural strength."
Scott shushed Stiles before leading them further inside. The trip entered the main opening of the club, the music making it hard for them to hear each other.
"Dude, everyone in here is a dude! I think we're in a gay club." Scott shouted over the music. Lucy looked around, realizing her brother was right. Men hung from silks above the dancing bodies, as drinks splashed from cups onto the floor.
"Man, nothing gets past those keen werewolf senses, huh, Scott?" Stiles deadpanned, raising an eyebrow when Scott and Lucy turned to look at him. A laugh rippled from their chests as they watched multiple men surround the buzz-cut boy with seductive looks covering their faces.
Moving over to the bar, Stiles tapped his hand on the surface to call over the bartender. "Three beers please."
"IDs." The bartender cocked an eyebrow as he looked at Scott and Stiles' horrific fake IDs. He turned to Lucy, waiting to see hers.
Lucy shrugged, giving him a small smile. "I'll just have coke."
"So, three cokes?"
"Rum and coke? Sure!" Stiles sassed, grinning when he heard Lucy laugh again. Wow, he was on a roll today.
"Three cokes are fine, thank you." Lucy smiled at the bartender again.
"Coming up." He nodded, speaking to the waiter behind him briefly before turning back to the only girl in the club. "I'm Nick, by the way. Could I get your number?" He smiled, leaning on the counter with a wink.
"She's taken." Scott and Stiles said together, glaring daggers at the bartender until he turned away. Stiles stepped closer to Lucy, wrapping an arm around her for good measure.
"Thanks," Lucy whispered, looking up at Stiles.
He nodded, smiling down at her softly. "Anything for you."
"That one's paid for." The shirtless waiter announced, placing the three drinks on the counter, as he slid the free drink to Scott and pointed to a man across the bar. Stiles scoffed at his friend as he laid cash down for the other two drinks, removing his arm from Lucy in the process.
"I can pay for mine," Lucy said, reaching into her pocket for her wallet.
"Don't." Stiles grabbed her wrist, stopping her from getting any money out. "I've got it."
"Thank you, again." Lucy smiled, taking a sip of her drink.
"Of course." Stiles put his arm around her again, catching some men behind them glancing at her. She wasn't wearing anything revealing, just a loose tee and some jeans, but the fact that she was a girl in a gay club was bound to earn her some stares. Stiles decided to put on a protective front, just in case. "Hey, I found Danny." He pointed to their classmate dancing in the crowd.
"And I found Jackson." Scott growled, pointing to the ceiling where he could be seen crawling along the metal bars and wires above Danny. "Get Danny," Scott ordered, never taking his eyes off the Kanima.
"What are you going to do?" Stiles asked, keeping his arm around Lucy. Their eyes widened when Scott flicked out his claws threateningly. "Works for me."
Stiles dropped his arm, reaching to grasp Lucy's hand instead. She held it tightly, bringing warmth to their chests as they split from Scott and approached Danny. Pushing their way through the crowd, they shouted Danny's name before losing him as the fog began falling from the machines placed in the corners of the room. Before they, or anyone else, could process what was truly happening, multiple bodies began dropping to the floor.
It started with one. Then two, three, four, five, and six. And then it was Danny.
That's when the screaming started. People finally noticed the row of people laid paralyzed on the floor, which evoked screams from the surrounding witnesses. Stiles pulled Lucy away from the bodies and crowd in search for Scott. They bolted out into the parking lot, following the trail of blood to the werewolf. He was crouched over a bleeding Jackson when they found him.
"What do we do with him now?"
Scott had attempted to get information out of a paralyzed Danny, which only failed. They had succeeded in getting Jackson into the back of Stiles' Jeep with Lucy and were getting ready to go when the Sheriff's car pulled into the parking lot.
"Get rid of him." Scott spluttered, anxious to leave.
"Get rid of him? We're at a crime scene and he's the Sheriff." Stiles practically yelled, making a good point.
"Do something." Lucy spoke up. "Jackson's waking up."
Both boys turned around quickly, their eyes widening as they watched Jackson stir. Stiles practically tumbled out of the car, rushing to speak to his father. Jackson continued to stir, becoming more vocal as he started to sit up.
Lucy pushed him back down, reminding him to be quiet. As an extra precaution, she covered his mouth. Scott watched his teammate warily, not excited about the fact that his sister was in the back with him. Lucy looked up, sighing in relief when she saw Stiles heading back towards the car.
