Chapter 5

Kat's P.O.V.

AFTER I WAS COMPLETELY done with packing out, I sat on the couch in the living room with a glass of blood in my hand while I was reading through some essays the students wrote. It was a pretty chill way to spend my afternoon, at least I thought until someone spoke up behind me.

"Never thought I would see you as a teacher again." He said while looking above my shoulders to see the papers.

"Never thought I would see you here again, Atlas." I said casually while flipping a page.

"Touché." he flopped down beside me, taking the glass from my hand and taking a big sip of it.

"Seriously...." I started while placing the papers on the desk, then I turned towards him "What are you doing here?" I raised my left eyebrow at him.

"Just passing through." he waved his hand in front of me "On my way to LA, though I'd say hi."

"You did. Now, what else?"

"What's with the interrogation?" he laughed while giving the glass back to me "I've been curious why are you still here. I mean, I know that you practically took in Derek and Laura after the fire, but why are you still-" I lifted up my right hand just to shut him up with my magic.

"He called in the favor." I stated and dropped my hand back down.

"The Peter Hale favor?" he asked wide eyed.

"The Peter Hale favor." I nodded "So I'm here until he needs me. Or correction. Until I want to stay. I could finally use a change of scenery, you know..."

"Ah..." Atlas nodded slowly "Got it. Call me if you need anything." he said standing up "Or if I can stay here with you."

"You're always welcome to stay until you don't wreak havoc as you usually do." I stated as I shrugged my shoulders.

"Duly noted." He started heading out but stopped in the doorway and turned back to me "What are you doing tonight?"

"Staying in or going to a game. Really depends on coach." I replied after a moment of thinking.

"I mean, if you're free we can wreak havoc before I go to Los Angeles...."

"Get out, Atlas." I pointed to the door while laughing "We're not doing this now. Especially, when I'm trying hard to blend in."

"Okay-okay." he put his hands in defense, but still started laughing with me "Alright, see you soon enough." he waved at me before he disappeared into thin air.

"That's my move, deadass..." I murmured under my breath and went back to my work.

-----------------------------------

I had no idea what time it could have been when I got a text from Derek, stating that they gonna talk to Stiles in school during the lacrosse game. He said the only reason he's saying that to me is because of anything goes sideways I should be the one saving his ass. Which became part of our deal. He also mentioned that as soon as they're done he's gonna text me just to inform me, but that text never arrived.

I was anxiously pacing around the house, slowly chewing on my finger thinking about the whole that has been happening. I knew that some reptile looking creature killed Isaac's father. The same thing killed a mechanic not that long ago. The 'thing' had way too sharp nails, or claws, or whatever a fucking reptile has... It sucks that I wasn't there to hear what Stiles actually saw.

After some time I finally had enough. I grabbed my keys and locked the front door, then not even bothering with the car I took of with my vamp speed to get to the school. D mentioned that they would be near the swimming pool, but I had no clue how near. Soon enough I arrived, a pushed the entrance open and started to walk faster in the direction of the pool. I slowly walked in and looked around. Sure enough, I didn't see them anywhere. Derek. I tried talking to him in his head, hoping that he still head enough braincells to just give me a location.

"Underwater." I heard his thoughts soon enough and speed to the side of the pool, not giving a shit about the screeching sound I heard from the balcony. I immediately reached inside of the water to try and grab a hold of both boys. When I grabbed their shirts I said a prayer, hoping no one would now come to us. I let out a loud sigh through my nose and with one swift motion a pulled them out, and a little bit forcefully placed them to the ground.

Just when that was done Scott came rushing to the door, towards us and jumped on top of the board with a fully transformed wolf face, roaring at the creature at the other side of the room.

The reptile wrapped its tail around his leg, tossing him away from us, while I took a hold of the two on the floor and pulled them closer to the wall. There's no way I'm participating in that fight. I's rather play babysitter for now.

Suddenly a loud breaking sound pulled me out of my thoughts and my head snapped in the direction, just to saw Scott laying in pieces of broken mirror. Meanwhile, Derek nudged me on my side, signaling to help him up. I rolled my eyes while taking a hold of his arm, pulling him halfway on the board then I let him go when saw the creature looking at his reflection. Confused. I gave Derek wary look, and he just responded with a subtle nod. Good, absolutely good, it's just fucking amazing...! We watched as it bolted, and went  from the wall to the roof and then straight through it. A fucking Kanima... I voiced my thoughts inside of Derek's head by accident, to which I only heard him letting out a quite groan, but it could be also the kanima venom.

Only when the kanima was nowhere in sight was the moment Scott realized that I was here too.

"You?! Um, it's.... It's not what it looks like." he tried to save while making his wolf face disappear.

"Yeah, nice try. But let's just forget about it." I waved my hands helping Derek up, and after that I give them an uncomfortable smile "Good night, Scott, Stiles." I said to the two while helping Derek out with now Erica by our side. "We're gonna need the Argent's bestiary." I said to Derek when we were fair away so Scott couldn't hear me. "I don't think my own copies of creatures has anything about it, hell, I'm old as a fossil and I hadn't even met with one, not even once!"

"Good luck with that." he said while taking a step away from me, straightening his back. I hold up my hands in defense. He could've just told me that he was okay, I would've let go of him, but you do you, D....

"Yeah, I'm gonna need more than luck." I let out a sigh and without saying anything else I just went invisible, to which Derek raised his eyebrows at me with a grumpy expression.

"Just stick around then." He said while walking to Scott and Stiles outside with Erica who joined us, I just followed behind them with my arms crossed. "It's called a Kanima." Derek said and the two boys heads snapped in his direction.

"You knew the whole time." stated Stiles.

"No. Only when it was confused by its own reflection." You mean when I mentioned it...

"It doesn't know what it is." said Scott.

"Or who."

"What else do you know?" asked Stiles.

"Just stories. Rumors." Unfortunately, same, dude. Just that it's an abominable shapeshifter. I sounded again in Derek's head, but he ignored me again.

"But it's like us?" asked McCall.

"A shapeshifter, yes. But it's not right. It's like a..."

"An abomination." Stiles finished. Derek already started to head home with Erica but Scott suddenly spoke up.

"Derek. We need to work together on this. Maybe even tell the Argents." I just rolled my eyes at his words. What an idiot.

"You trust them?" asked Derek. Question of the year.

"Nobody trust anyone." Good point... "That's the problem. While we're here, arguing about who's on what side, there's something scarier, stronger and faster than any of us, and it's killing people. And we still don't know anything about it."

"I know one thing." spoke up Derek "When I find it, we're gonna kill it." and with that the three of us were on the way out of here, but before I actually went home a stepped behind the two boys.

"Sorry about this." I said while placing my hands on their temples. I could feel them flinch, hearts beating faster, but I just close my eyes performing the non-verbal spell. I was always the master of altering memories, even if was not my favorite thing to do, but I always do what I have to. I slipped into there memories from the past minutes and carefully removed my image from their memories, instead of me dragging out Stiles and Derek from the pool, in their minds it was Scott. They didn't have to know that I know too much. Not the right time... Yet.
