Chapter 3

T.WThis chapter contains violence and bloodMattheo's POV

She pushed my hand away and I watched as she lost her grip and fell backwards over the railing. What the fuck was wrong with this girl. For a brief moment I was shocked that she was actually dumb enough to even risk her life to prove a point. But then I felt a grin form on my face. This girl was just as crazy as I was and I needed more of it.

I jumped over the edge and dived after her. Her body was splayed out, making my dive faster and I was able to reach her quickly. Wrapping my arm around her waist, I used my other hand to move the strands of hair from her face. Her eyes were closed. She had either fainted from the fear of falling or finally passed out from the amount of alcohol she had consumed. Either way, even falling to her death, she looked at peace. Something I would ruin for her when I got the chance.

We were inches from the jagged rocks before I finally apparated us to my bedroom. Gently laying her on my bed, I took her shoes off and draped a blanket over her.

I sat beside her for a moment, studying at her. Her hair had fallen slightly over her face and I moved it back. Her lips were full but the red lipstick was slightly smudged. A small reminder of what happened earlier. My mouth tilted up slightly but I instantly scowled at the unwanted sensation it had created.

She was beautiful, there was no doubt about it. But she was also unwanted trouble whether she knew it or not.

I swung my legs of the side of the bed and stood up heading towards the bathroom. Filling the sink with cold water, I splashed my face. She may be beautiful but this girl was nothing to me and I had to keep reminding myself that she would be a distraction. There was one thing that did keep me intrigued though. Her birth parents and why that fucking hat was so quick to put her in Slytherin.

I walked back in to my bedroom and picked my jacket up from the chair. Casting one last glance over at the girl, I made she was still where I left her. She was out of it so it wouldn't matter if I left for a bit. If she wasn't there when I got back then that wouldn't matter either.

I paused, staring at her again. If she wasn't where I left her when I returned, I would fucking drag her back. Kicking and screaming.

When I finally apparated to Riddle manner, I was aware I was already late for the meeting. Everyone was seated around the large table including my three friends. They looked up with idiotic grins on their faces, making me roll my eyes in annoyance.

"You're late Mattheo." My father said, stating the obvious from the head of the table as I made my way to be seated beside him.

"I'm sorry father, I was... held up." I replied calmly.

"Or she was held up." I heard Blaise mutter and Draco chuckle quietly. I glared at them both and they bowed their heads but still had the shit eating grin I hated. Luckily no one else paid attention to what they said. I didn't feel like answering my father's questions over something unimportant.

The meeting was useless to me like usual. Just going through the plan for the year ahead and what everyone had been doing to benefit my father. Or ideas of what I am sure would be more failed attempts to kill golden bollocks boy. As soon as it was over, I pulled my father to the side.

"Father, I'm wondering if you know anything about the Blackwood's and their adopted daughter?" He tilted his head to the side a little and signalled for me to go on. "Clarissa Blackwood was homeschooled but this year they decided to let her attend Hogwarts. I'm curious as to why they would do that when she could have easily continued her studies from home. She isn't lacking in knowledge from what I can tell. Another thing, the hat barely touched her before putting her in Slytherin. It's made me question if her birth parents were also in Slytherin and who they are." I finished.

"Hmm... I will admit, that has intrigued me too. I will do some research and let you know."

"Thank you, father." I turned around and walked out the hall.

If I did enough digging myself I would probably be able to find the answers I wanted but why do all the hard work when there was someone else to do it for you.

Reid was waiting for me outside the door. "What happened at the astronomy tower?" He asked, following me as I walked.

"None of your business Carrow." I sighed, pulling a cigarette out of the packet and lighting it up.

"Where is she now?" He asked, sounding more desperate. Did he really think I would kill her. Well I have never gave him any reason to think otherwise. Lucky for him, I had no interest in her dying.

"In my bed." I finally answered.

He stopped moving but I carried on walking with a cruel smirk forming. There was just something about knowing I had pissed him off and there was fuck all he could do about it.

Clarissa's POV

I didn't want to open my eyes. My head hurt too much and I just knew that as soon as the light hit them, my head would split in two. I turned over and groaned in to the pillow feeling the cold silk on my face.

Silk? My pillow was cotton.

My eyes shot open and I sat up, recognising my surroundings straight away. I was in Mattheo's room. I tried to collect my memories. Last night was a blur and the last thing I remembered was downing a bottle of fire whisky. Why was I so stupid to actually do that? What point did it prove? Shit, I can't even remember what the reason was. Or what dumb decisions I made after.

Thankfully, I still had the dress I had been wearing on but my shoes where off. I reached down between my legs just to be certain my underwear was still on. I knew it was but I needed that tiny bit of reassurance.

I looked around the room. Mattheo was asleep on the sofa. Why was he over there and not in bed with me? Why the hell did I just think that? Actually, why I was even in his bed?

"Morning." He murmured; his voice rough with sleep. Fuck me. That sound was dangerous to a woman.

"Um morning." I replied, quickly looking away in the hopes he didn't see the blush rising to my cheeks. "Umm... did we...?"

I was positive we never but I had to make sure. We were both drinking and I knew my self-control would have been completely thrown out of the window.

"Contrary to being the dick that you called me last night," He began, standing up from the sofa, wearing his grey sweats and a tight black t-shirt. "Drunk, passed out girls are not my thing. I like them to remember what I do to them. Especially when I make them come."

I felt myself blush even harder as he walked in to the bathroom shutting the door behind him. In a rush to get out of the room before he came back I rolled out of the bed and found my shoes on the floor. Picking them up, I ran out of the bedroom and through to the common room. Draco and Blaise were sitting in the usual spot. Both turned to grin at me as I ran past which warranted in me flipping them off and them laughing. Arseholes.

I reached my dorm and quickly shut the door. Both girls were already awake and sitting on their beds. Both gave a relieved sigh before their expression became serious.

"Where was you!?" Darcy demanded, jumping up from her spot and running towards me. She pulled me in for a rough cuddle then pushed me away at arm's length to judge the clothes from the previous night.

Pansy looked me up and down and grinned. "Did you just do the walk of shame?"

"What? No!" I said, disgruntled before releasing a breath of defeat. "You are going to find out anyway because the Draco and Blaise saw me leave but I was in Mattheo's room."

Darcy gasped and grabbed my hand dragging me to my bed. All three of us sat down, cross legged and they waited expectedly for me to continue. So this was what it was like to have female friends that wasn't your mum. They wanted the gossip.

"Nothing happened." I smile as their smiles fell in disappointment. "I can't even remember how I got there."

"Well, the last time we see of you was when you and Mattheo kissed then you walked out." Pansy said excitedly.

"We kissed?" I squeaked in shock.

"Well it wasn't exactly a kiss; it was a blow back with the blunt we were smoking." Darcy shrugged.

"There lips touched for more than a few seconds. It was a kiss." Pansy frowned at her.

"That's not how it works." Darcy argued.

"Pretty sure if our lips touched you would say I kissed you." Pansy winked at her but I wasn't hardly listening anymore.

Why the fuck did I get so drunk that I made a fool of myself. I was an idiot. So was he for that matter. I kissed him or he kissed me. Whatever way it was I still ended up in his bed at the end of the night.

"Oh fuck." I threw myself back on to the pillow and both girls laughed getting off the bed.

"Get ready anyway. We'll get some breakfast then just chill today. You can wallow in self-pity when while you shower but then nothing more about it. Own what you did. Plus it's not like you really did fuck him?" Pansy side eyed me hoping I would slip up but there wasn't anything to hide and she shrugged.

Darcy lightly slapped my legs, "Lessons start tomorrow so we better make sure you know where you're going too."

I groaned in agreement and forced myself in to the shower, washing away whatever sins I committed the night before.

The rest of the day was chilled, just like Pansy promised. The girls took me on a tour of where all my lessons were and after we sunbathed in the grounds.

I had managed to avoid Mattheo all day and by the time the evening came and we was all in the common room he was nowhere to be seen. Reid and Draco provided the entertainment for the evening by putting on a show of magically silent fireworks outside of the window. That was until one of the professors saw what was happening and when they tried to stop it, he was chased by one of stray rockets. Needless to say Reid landed himself a detention. Draco wasn't caught.

───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── I walked in to the potions class with Darcy and Pansy. Everyone was standing at the back of the class waiting for instructions.

"What's happening?" I whispered to Blaise, taking note of his crossed arms and aggravated expression.

He nodded towards the teacher at the front of class. "Snape told us to wait here. Taking his fucking time though."

The man who I assumed was Professor Snape looked up from the cauldron in front of him. "10 points from Slytherin."

Blaise groaned but didn't bite back.

"You have all been assigned seats this year. Find your name and turn your books to page 57." Snape said dryly, looking back at the cauldron. "And don't roll your eyes Parkinson."

I looked at Pansy and she smirked as she went to find her seat. I looked at the desks that people had already started sitting in and scanned the closet one to me. Carrow and Malfoy were scrawled on the front of two note books. I looked at the desk in front and saw the name Riddle on one note book. Blackwood was on the other. Perfect. Just perfect!

Mattheo wasn't even in class yet. With any luck he wouldn't turn up at all. I sat down on the stall and opened my text book to the right page. Amortentia. The most powerful love potion in existence.

"Oi, Clary?" A voice whispered behind me. I turned to see Draco leaning over his desk. "Forgot to ask last night, what happened with Mattheo in his room?"

The ass knew full well that nothing happened but here he was, bringing it up again for some reason. Reid didn't look up but I saw his hands grip his book tighter as he listened. Was it him who wanted to actually know?

"I can't even remember half the night." I sighed, beginning to sound like a broken record. "but I can assure you now nothing happened in there. Nor will it ever happen."

Draco sat back disappointed at not get a different answer and I noticed Reid's hands relax while a smile flickered onto his face. I turned back around and carried on reading about the potion. According to the text, the smell of the potion is different to everyone. You are able to smell who you truly desired.

The door of the dungeon opened behind me and then slammed shut making some of the students gasp at the loud bang.

"Ahh Riddle, nice of you to join us." Snape said sarcastically without looking up to see who it was. "Find your seat."

He sat down beside me without a word. I sucked in my bottom lip, waiting for him to complain or say something at all but he remained silent. He moved to open his book, brushing his arm against mine. Even with our uniform between us I felt the jolt of electricity surge through me. Instant flutters filled my stomach. I would have given anything to have a drink at that moment to drown the little fuckers out.

"I want you all to line up near the cauldron and smell this potion. If your potion doesn't smell the way this one does once you have finished then you have obviously failed and will stay here until you get it right."

"What about our next lesson?" A smallish boy asked.

"You can explain to your next professor how inadequate you are and why you will fail in like." Snape replied, silencing the student. "Girls first."

I stood up, walked around Mattheo and headed towards the front of class where a queue of girls were already forming. Pansy, Darcy and I were the last to smell the potion. Pansy stepped up first, saying exactly what she smelt then looked up a Draco. He smirked at her and winked causing her to blush and run back to her seat. Darcy was next. She took a big whiff and said something about a strong cologne, coffee and lemongrass. Looking at me she shrugged and made her way back to her seat.

I stepped up the cauldron, putting my face over it and breathed in deeply.

"I smell a strong cologne, cigarettes and..." I paused, trying to work out the last smell. It was like copper, iron and sweet but salty at the same time. My nose scrunched up in disgust once I realised what it was. "Blood."

Stepping away from the potion I looked at Darcy and Pansy who were both grinning wildly at me, hearing what I had just said.

"Oh, shut up, it could be anyone." Knowing exactly who they were thinking but also knowing they were wrong. Snapes potion was obviously faulty. Or Burnt. They both laughed blowing kisses at me. I huffed a sound of amusement and shook my head at their childishness, making my way back to my seat.

"What did you smell Blackwood?" Reid asked, keeping his voice to the minimum as he leaned forward.

"It's a secret." I winked at him. Was I hell telling him what I had smelt with Mattheo sitting beside me. Not that he would interested. Just didn't want him getting the wrong idea like Darcy and Pansy had.

"Boys." Snape called lazily from the front.

Draco and Reid stood up and headed to the front of the class. Mattheo closed his book and slowly stood up but still managed to hit his stool into my knees on purpose. He watched me for a few seconds, waiting for a reaction and I waited for an apology but neither got what we wanted.

"What do you think you will smell Riddle?" I asked sweetly, cocking my head to the side.

It wasn't the words that he was expecting but I suppose in a way he still got a reaction from me. Mattheo leaned forward so his nose was inches away from mine and I could feel his warm breath. His eyes were cold as he stared in to mine. We hadn't been this close since that night when he blew the smoke into my mouth. Oh shit, I remembered that. I remembered his lips on mine.

"Nothing." He snarled while I forced myself to keep looking into his eyes and not at his lips. "I'll smell nothing because I feel nothing." Standing straight once again, he walked to the front of the class with the others.

'"I feel nothing..."' I had heard those words before but I couldn't remember when. Think!

It all came back, the night in the astronomy tower. How he had his hand around my throat and how I slipped, falling over the railings. I could have died but I didn't. I couldn't remember how I survived but I woke up in his bed the next morning. He had to have saved me. There was no other explanation.

I needed to talk to him about it. I looked up to see him, Draco and Reid near the cauldron. Draco had just finished and was smiling at Pansy who was once again blushing. Reid was next and I watched as he took in a deep breath smelling the potion.

"Peonies, strawberries and ginger." He looked at Mattheo who's expression was blank as usual, then made his way back to his seat.

Mattheo was next. He stepped up to the cauldron, looking inside and breathed the smell in. His eyebrows raised slightly and I saw his eyes drift up, making contact with mine. Once he noticed I was watching him he lifted his head grinning.

"Nothing." he said venomously and walked back to his seat.

After everyone else had finished smelling the potion, Snape instructed us to replicate it with our partners. I got up and retrieved all the ingredients we needed whilst Mattheo set up the equipment. Sitting back down I began adding bits to the cauldron whilst he stirred.

"You saved me." I whispered, unsure if I wanted him to hear it or not.

"What?" He stopped stirring and looked at me coldly.

"When I fell, you caught me." I sucked in my bottom lip to hide my grin after realising he wouldn't actually let me die.

"Stop speaking." He growled and turned back to the potion.

"Why did you catch me?" I pushed, not knowing when to shut my mouth.

His hand grabbed my thigh and I let out a light gasp. He squeezed hard as he spun me round on my seat to face him. I would definitely have bruised that evening. A strange sensation filled me as his face got close to mine. Adrenaline? Excitement? Maybe it was my subconsciousness telling me to shut the fuck up and don't bait the dragon.

"I said. Stop. Speaking." He squeezed harder and I grinned. I had never been that good at listening to inner self. He glanced down at my mouth, seeing the smile I had and his eyes flashed with a fire I knew would burn me if I kept going.

"What did you smell Mattheo?" I said quietly, still grinning.

He picked up the dagger of the table that I had been using to cut our ingredients and held it to my throat. My pulse raced but not in fear.

"You're pushing your luck, Love." He snarled before digging the dagger deeper into my skin, not yet breaking the surface.

"What did you smell?" I asked again, pushing against the blade.

A drop of blood dripped down my neck on to my shirt. He watched, moving the blade ever so slightly that more blood fell. When he looked back into my eyes there was no anger. There was something else. Something scarier. Especially with the way his smile twisted. A dangerous yet playful grin. He really did look like the psycho he was known to be.

Before he went further I pulled away. Something clicked inside his head and he suppressed whatever urges he had. Taking the dagger away, he slammed it onto the desk.

"And they say I'm crazy." He stood up, knocking his stool to the floor and walked towards the door. I stood up too, grabbing the dagger off the table. In a bold, impulsive move I threw the dagger at him.

It wasn't like I was aiming. I don't even know why I did it but it was too late to take it back. If it hit, I was pretty sure he would be healed by the school nurse. If it didn't hit then he would just be even angrier. It was probably in my best interests that it did hit.

Mattheo turned swiftly around and caught it before it could hit him. His eyes met mine. I thought he would be angry but instead they were filled with burning desire. Not what I expected at all. He flipped the knife, smirking and threw it back.

"STOP!"

The dagger froze a couple of inches in front of my left eye and dropped to the floor. There was silence all around us and I was suddenly reminded we were actually in the classroom with everyone watching what had just happened. Snape moved himself between us both with his wand out.

"You two, a week's detentions."

Mattheo glared at me but didn't say anything before he walked out of the dungeon, slamming the door behind him. Snape opened the door again and followed him out.

I let myself finally breath as I sat down in my seat trying to make sense of what just happened.

"Have you got a death wish?" Darcy asked picking up Mattheo's stool and sitting on it. Pansy walked over and sat on her lap.

"Honestly girl, he has killed for a lot less." She said, looking slightly concerned.

"He nearly killed her just then." Another girl said from the desk across the me.

"If he wanted her dead, she'd be dead." Pansy shot her down. "No keep your ski slope nose out of our conversation."

"Personally I think it's about time Mattheo had someone to challenge him. He obviously likes you... deep down." Draco laughed. "But Panz is right. If he wants you dead, you're going to die."

"Just be careful Clary, he's our best friend but remember whose son he is." Darcy said in a low voice, giving her brother a dirty look.

"Yeah and we aren't ready to lose you just yet. We are finally the powerpuff girls!" Pansy leapt up and pulled me in for a cuddle before squealing. "Oh my god, Halloween costume idea!"

"No. now we have our red head I have the perfect costumes for us all." Darcy laughed, clapping her hands together excitedly, causing the rest of us to laugh.

"Reid, you've been quiet. You OK?" I asked, looking at him.

He stared at me for a moment, tilting his head to the side. After a few seconds he gave me a small smile. "Yeah, but I'm starting to think you're not as innocent as I thought."

"I'm still sweet though." I fluttered my lashes at him and blew a kiss, making him laugh.
