Chapter 2: Dowfall of our love

"Just Gonna Stand their and watch me burn.."~~~~~~

Emme waited outside the doors of Dr. Gauls Lab absolutely terrified. 'What could Gaul want with her?'

"You can go in now." A peacekeeper said as he moved out of the way for her to enter she tried to swallow her fear but it could never fully be gone with the crazy insane Dr.

"Ah, Ms. Reinswood I'm glad you could make it." Gaul said with a devious smile that made Emme shudder. "I bet you're wondering why I've summoned you?"

"I- yes. I am wondering why I'm here.." Emme said as she swallowed thickly.

"I see you and my colleague mister snow are still.. close." Dr. Gaul stated as she moved over to her desk.

"We are.." Emme replied looking at Dr. Gaul confused. "What does this have to do with me being here."

"Well, since you and mister snow are so close. I guess you already know that he sent his little friend to the noose." Dr. Gaul remarked. Emme's heart stopped as she looked at Gaul.

"W-what..." Emme asked looking at Dr.Gaul. Dr.Gaul gave a wicked smile.

"Ah. So you don't know that Mister Snow sent his little friend to the noose, just so he could get back here..." Dr. Gaul said more elaborately. Emme looked at her shaking her head.

"You're lying.." Emme said as she shook her head. Dr. Gauls eyebrows raised.

"Am I?" She asked cockily as she pulled at a device and switched it on.

"If I don't report you now..."

"You don't know anything to report."

"They know we're friends, Sejanus. You're gonna get us both killed."

"You told me I could do something. You told me I could make a difference. There's a group of locals that are getting out of District 12 for good."

"Don't. Stop talking. I can't hear this."

"Listen to me. They're going up north to start a new life far away from Panem. They need money for supplies. They told me I could go if I got it for them. You could come with us."

"You're giving money to the locals. Are you out of your mind? They're all rebels."

"I can't stay here. I won't. They're not planning on doing anything dangerous, okay?"

"It's all dangerous."

"They're just doing what anybody else would do, Coryo. The leader, Spruce, he wants to get his sister, Lil, out of jail on base. Hoff is going to execute her just because she knows the man that they killed. It's wrong. I'm gonna help them get her out."

"It's treason, Sejanus."

"Nobody's gonna get hurt."

"I'm just doing what you told me to do at the arena."

"I was just trying to save you the first time you did something stupid enough to ruin my life."

She heard Coriolanus snap before the recorder was turned off. Dr. Gaul switched off looking down at the recorder with a smirk before looking at Emme.

"Now Ms. Reinswood do you think I'm lying? I don't tolerate lying it's weak and pathetic." Dr. Gaul said snippily. Emme looked from the bird to her with tears in her eyes rushing out of her lab leaving Dr. Gaul with a very pleased villainous smile.

Now Emme stood with her bags packed in the hall looking at the photos wondering how could her day go from a happy good one to a destroying devastating one instead? Waking up to The love of her life and having an amazing morning together to getting promoted at work to Dr. Gaul and finding out who she thought was the love of her life was her worst nightmare. It would only be her and Coriolanus to talk Tigris had taken Grandma'am out after she talked to her. Emme was snapped out of her thoughts as she heard the door open signalling that he was home. She quickly wiped her tears so hoping he wouldn't know.

"What all this?" Coriolanus asked looking at the bags his eye brows furrowed. "Did your parents send more of your things?"

Emme finally mustered up the courage to turn around to him tears once again perking in her already red puffy eyes. Looking at the man she loved and trusted well.. used to love and trust. Coriolanus's eyes moved from the bags to Emme his face sketching in worry. He moved to get closer to her but she moved back making him freeze giving her a wary look.

"D-did you send Sejanus to the hanging tree?" Emme said in barely whisper.

As she couldn't even get the words out but no matter Coriolanus heard it and turned pale as a ghost stiffening before collecting himself.

"W-why...would you ask me something like that, dove?" Coriolanus questioned using the nickname he had given her not that long ago. Ironic really a bird. A bird he could cage.. His eyes narrowing at her. She wiped her tears with her sleeve not caring if she'd get makeup on it.

"Today.. Dr. Gaul had me escorted to her lab and.. I heard a recording." She said not looking him in the eyes but instead of a picture of the three of them. Taken at the beginning of the tenth anual huger games Sejanus on the left, Emme on the right with Coriolanus's arms wrapped around her as he was in the middle.

"The recorder was one of the ones that went to a Mockingjay..." Coriolanus tensed. "A-and the voice on it was Sejanus's and.. yours.. Coriolanus." Emme said finally lifting her eyes up to look at him.

"T-that's no-" "Not what? Not you? Not what it looks like?" Emme said staring at him with hurt eyes which made his heart ache.

"So you mean you're trying to tell me Dr. Gaul personally had me listen to a recording was somebody else who sounded exactly like you and Sejanus? That calls the one guy Coryo?" Emme pushed. Coriolanus froze at the mention of Gauls name his eyes burning with fury and Emme knew that look all to well...

"Do you wanna know what she said? That lying was weak and pathetic.. if theirs one thing I know about seeing and hanging around Dr. Gaul is that she does not lie.." Emme said looking at Coriolanus. "and you know that."

"I'll ask again.." Emme began taking a shaky inhale. "Did you get Sejanus Killed.."

Emme looking at him with teary eyes. Coriolanus galped knowing that he couldn't get himself out of this.

"Yes..." Coriolanus admitted.

Emme choked out a sob as her hands came up to her mouth Coriolanus tried reaching out to her and she pulled herself back again. Before grabbing her bags heading to towards the door his hand came around her arm tightly stopping her.

"How could you do that?" She asked. "H-how could you kill your best friend.. my best friend.. Marcus's twin brother?"

"And then come back and take the plinths money and have them treat you like a son.."

"I did what I needed to do.." Coriolanus said looking at her. Emme stared back at him in disbelief.

"What do you mean 'you did what you needed to do?" Emme spat.

"Sejanus was going to get you killed if I'd let him get away with it. He almost got you killed the night at the hob." Coriolanus spat as he brought a time where he wasn't there to protect her.

"No. Coriolanus you are the one that made sure that nobody got the word out.." Emme cried. Coriolanus jaw tightened.

"I did what I had to do to keep you safe." Coriolanus said sternly. Emme scoffed before grabbing her bag.

"This is over in every possible way." And with that Emme left heart in hand as she left. Leaving Coriolanus standing there in the middle of the apartment.

  All Coriolanus could do was stare at the spot she once stood his heart cold and broken as a fiery anger raised in his chest at the maniac doctor.

  Emme showed up at Clemensia door step. Clemmie pulled her in a hug straight away as she told her everything.

"W-what am i going to do? I can't go b-back their to h-him a-aft" Emme sobbed.

"You can stay hear. And in the morning we will figure everything out but for now just let it all out." Clemensia said as she let Emme sob in her arms. Her heart broken with the reality of her world.
