Third-person pov

Everyone gathered around John Blythe's grave as they buried his casket.

As the minister told the speech Rose couldn't help but wonder if Gilbert was feeling okay. He looked extremely pale and had bags under his eyes.

Everyone was mourning John's death but no one was as sad as Marilla Cuthbert.

She was very close with John when they were young. She fell in love with him.

But after he graduated college he fell in love with another woman.

Marilla was heartbroken when they got married.

 Now he was gone. Forever.

After a while, everyone started heading into the Blythe's house.

Rose was inside the house looking out the window.

She walked to the door to go outside and comfort gilbert but before she could she saw Anne walkout.

Rose walked back to the window to see what was happening.

She saw Gilbert turn around with his jaw clenched. Rose knew something was wrong.

She excused herself, quickly put on the coat, and ran to where they were standing.

When she got there she saw Gilbert walking away and what seemed to be a very angry Anne.

"Anne, what happened?" Rose asked her very distressed friend.

"Ughh!" Anne yelled walking back to the house.

Confused, Rose walked to Gilbert.

"Gilbert!" she yelled trying to get his attention.

Gilbert turned around his jaw still clenched.

"Are you alright?" she asked.

Gilbert just nodded.

Rose saw tears brimming around his eyes.

Before he could say anything she walked over to him embracing him in a tight hug.

She felt a tear fall on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry.."

"Why are you sorry? You are the last person that should be apologizing" Gilbert said his voice shaking with every word.

I pulled away from the hug.

"Do you wanna go somewhere?" She asked.

~

They sat on a log in the forest with her head on his shoulder.

"Gilbert?" Rose called.

He hummed in response.

"What did Anne say?" she asked as curiosity got the best of her.

"S-nothing" Gilbert said quickly.

"You know that you can tell me anything right?"

"I said it's nothing!" He yelled making Rose flinch.

"I-I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you angry. I should probably get going" Rose said getting up.

She got up from where she was sitting.

"Ros-" gilbert was cut off by Rose.

"No, it's fine," she said walking away.

~

Rose got back to the house and sat on a bench outside.

She heard snow crunching behind her and swiftly turned her head.

"Sorry! Didn't mean to scare you," said Diana taking a seat beside her.

"It's alright," Rose said sighing.

Diana looked at the expression on her face and knew something was wrong.

"Hey...What's wrong?" She asked putting a hand on her shoulder.

"It's nothing. I'm just tired that's all," Rose said forcing a smile.

Diana knew she was lying but decided not to push it.

"Let's go inside. It's quite cold out here. Don't want to catch a cold now do we?" Diana stood up and held a hand out for Rose.

Rose got up, linked their arms, and walked into the house.

~

Gilbert sat at the same spot his face buried in his hands.

He felt guilty about yelling at Rose. He knew she just wanted to help but he just let the anger take over him.

A tear slipped out of his eye but he wiped it away.

Gilbert got up and walked back to his father's grave.

"What did I do?" he said shaking his head.

Gilbert sat at the bench in front of the grave.

Soon everyone left and the sun became to set.

~

Rose was in her bedroom, laying on the bed looking at the ceiling.

'Why did he yell at me today?'  she thought to herself.

Rose sighed and walked to her vanity. She took a brush that was close to her and sat down on the seat.

She ran the brush through her hair.

Then suddenly there was a knock on the door.

Rose walked to the door to see who it was. She opened it and saw Diana.

"Oh, Diana-" She began to speak but Diana cut her off by walking into her room.

"I need to talk to you," Diana said taking a seat on her bed and patted a spot next to her for Rose to sit.

"What d-" Rose was cut off again.

"What happened with Gilbert?"

"I-nothing?" said Rose.

"Stop lying Rose. Come on! Just tell me!" Diana said her voice laced with worry.

"I-i saw Anne and Gilbert fighting so I decided to talk to him about it. But then I asked him about it and he yelled at me..." Rose said giving in.

"Do you think he's mad?" She asked.

Diana gave Rose a slight smile.

"I'm sure he isn't. If you want I could talk to him tomorrow?" Diana suggested.

"Thank you, Diana you are amazing," Rose said pulling her into a hug.

Diana giggled and pulled away from the hug.

"If you need help with anything you know where to come" She smiled.

They exchanged goodnight's and went to bed.
