Rose's pov

We soon arrive at the Cuthberts and Diana knocked on the door. A woman opened the door.

"Hello, ms.Cuthbert. is Anne here?"

"Why hello Diana. She right upstairs in her room"ms. Cuthbert said wiping her hands on her apron. "Oh, how rude of me.. I'm Rose Barry. I'm Dianas, cousin."

ms. Cuthbert smiled

Diana led me upstairs.

"Oh, princess Cordelia. Why it's so lovely to meet you" We heard as we walked up to the room at the end of the hall. Diana slowly pushed open the door and I followed behind.

"Hello, Anne!" Diana said making Anne jumping a bit.

"Hello, Diana!" Anne said brightly as they hugged. I just stood there and watched.

I was always a shy kid. I never really talked to anybody. And nobody talked to me either. My thoughts were interrupted by Diana waving her hand in front of my face and calling my name.

"Oh, I'm sorry I just got lost in my thoughts.." I said shyly looking down embarrassed.

"Hey, it's not a problem I do that all the time" this voice didn't sound like Dianas so it must be Anne's.

"You must be Rose. Diana has told me so much about you. Why you have such lovely brown hair. I wished I had brown hair instead of dreadful red." said Anne shaking my hand viciously.

I just giggled.

"I'm Anne by the way. Oh, and can you spell that with an e" She said introducing herself.

Third-person pov

The girls were walking to the schoolhouse hand in hand.

Anne and Rose got along very well and Rose just admire how Anne uses so many big words. She wanted to know more. She wanted to be smart like Anne.

You see Rose didn't get to go to school very often. And if she did she would get bullied. So usually she would just stay home and learn herself.

Anne and Diana were having a conversation and Rose was just staring into space.

Diana was happy that her cousin and best friend were getting along.

They soon arrive at the schoolhouse.

" Anne? Can you show Rose where to put the milk? I have to go in and inform the girls."

She nodded and walked with Rose to a small river and showed her where to put her milk. "Are you nervous?" asked Anne while helping Rose get up. "Well I guess I am," said Rose getting up.

Rose's pov

Anne led me to the coatroom and helped me hang up my coat.

Diana waved at us. She was standing near a group of girls. Must be her friends.

"Anne! Rose! Over here!" we walked up to her. There was a tall girl with blonde hair staring daggers at Anne. I just gave her a confused look.

"Rose, this is Josie Pye" pointing to the girl who was staring at Anne.

"Ruby Gillis" Diana said pointing to a small girl who had golden hair

"Jane Andrews" pointing to a girl with silky brown hair

"and Tillie Boulter" pointing to a girl with beautiful short brown hair.

"Nice to meet you all. I'm Rose. Rose Barry." I said with a smile. Hopefully, they're nice. "It's nice to meet you too.." everyone said in unison.

I felt a pair of eyes on me as I talked to them. No, actually multiple pairs of eyes. I turn to see most of the boys staring at me. A boy caught my eyes. He had dark brown eyes, dark curly hair that looked soft as a cloud.

"looks like the boys sure do seem to like you," said Josie. " Yeah, they sure do.."I said giggling a bit.

A guy with a thick mustache came in. "Everyone please open your readers to 283," he said in a monotone.

Everyone quickly rushed to their seats. I sat beside Jane in the back row in front of the older girls I assume.

While we were in class I feel someone staring daggers at me. I look in front of me to see Ruby staring dreamily at the boy I met eyes with early. He seems interesting. He's not like the others.

Third-person pov

The boy Rose met eyes with earlier was Gilbert Blythe. He was a fairly dreamy boy. Everybody in the class knew him. He was smart as well.

The moment he set eyes on her he felt butterflies in my stomach. It was something he never felt before with any girl.

He never took interest in anyone. But it was different with her.

He admired her.

He'd decided that he would talk to her and offer her a walk home at lunch.

~

Class ended as lunchtime rolled by. Rose was alone at a tree near the schoolhouse reading a book as she bites into her apple. She heard footsteps coming towards her. At this point, she had looked up from her book to see who it was. It was the boy.

"Why hello there. I don't believe we've met before?" she put her book down and patted a spot for him to sit.

"We haven't Miss. I'm gilbert. Gilbert Blythe." he smiled.

They felt something in my stomach. Something fuzzy. Weird.

But this wasn't new to gilbert. He had this feeling in the classroom.

"I'm Rose.." she said as a bit of blush dusted her cheeks.

"Rose...I was wondering if I could walk you home?" he asked rubbing the back of his neck.

Rose was shocked at what he just said. Did he like her?

"of course.." she said with a smile.

They were having their normal conversation getting to know each other but little did they know that they were being watched by Ruby and the girls except for Anne and Diana.

As Ruby sobbed into Josie's shoulder Josie got more and more vexed.

She was planning her revenge and wasn't going to think twice about it.
