1.The arrival of Rose

It was a bright sunny day. A carriage stopped at the front of the Barry's house.

A girl with short brown hair was sitting patiently in the carriage. She had pale skin. Her lips looked plump and soft. Light freckles spread across her cheeks. A warm smile on her lips.

She walked up to the door and knocked lightly. The door opened to reveal Diana barry. "Rose!" she exclaimed hugging her cousin tightly. "Diana.." she recognized the voice. Mrs.Barry came out. She cleared her throat. Rose smiled. "How are you, Rose dear." Mrs.Barry said happy to see her niece. "Come in dear you must be tired from the long ride," Mrs.Barry said helping her in.

"Father isn't home, he went to charlotte town," Diana said. "Aunt Elizabeth, mother told me I would be staying with you for a while," Rose said entering the house. "Mother's sick and Father didn't want me to be alone in the house since mothers at the hospital," she said looking down feeling tears in her eyes. The room went quiet. "I'm sure shell be alright." Mrs.Barry said.

"You'll be staying here tonight dear.. have a goodnight darling " Mrs. Barry said bring her to a room. Mrs.Barry slowly closed the door and went downstairs to prepare supper.

Rose's pov

As soon as the door closed I couldn't hold it in anymore. I broke down crying falling to her knees. I knew very well that her mother wouldn't make it. My father didn't want her to suffer since he knew how close me and my mother were. I haven't been eating and sleeping well.

"Rose! Diana! come down for supper!" I heard Aunt Elizabeth yell. I quickly wipe the tears off my face and headed downstairs where the dining room was.

I straighten my skirt before entering. I sat down next to Diana. Everyone started talking in their own conversations. Diana told me about her friend Anne she seems quite delightful. Diana also told me that I would be meeting her tomorrow. She seems very smart.

I finished my supper and was excused to go back up to my room to rest.

I stripped down to my undergarments and put on my nightgown. I was tired but my mind kept wandering to my mother. What if she doesn't make it? It was hard for me to think I wouldn't see her again.. well at least not alive. Father must be devastated. I wanted to be there for him but I couldn't go back there. Nobody knew this but I was bullied by the girls at my school for being skinny or other different reasons. I didn't dare to tell anyone about it either.

I laid in bed and let my thoughts wander around. Soon my eyes became heavy and sleep took over me.

I woke up by the light shining in my eyes. I slowly got up and went to the dining room thinking everyone was awake by now. Surprisingly it was empty. Seeing as though everyone was still asleep I took the time to get washed up and change into a nice pair of clothes.

I heard some noises from down the hall. I decided to check out who or what was making the noise. I haven't looked around yet. Maybe Diana could show me around later.

Down the hall was a room. The door was slightly open. I poked my head through to see whose room this was.

Third-person pov

Diana was in her room getting ready still unaware that Rose was awake and watching her. She was wearing a beautiful baby blue dress with puff sleeves. She put a matching bow in her dark brown hair.

The door creaked as Rose opened it. Diana spun around certainly frightened. "Oh dear lord Rose I didn't know you were awake," said Diana combing her hands through her hair. "Pardon me Diana I didn't mean to disturb you. You look stunning."Rose said a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "You look delightful as well Rose," said Diana. Both girls walk down the stairs having a nice conversation. "Today I was going to the Cuthberts do you want to tag along?" "I would love to"
