The Gold

The girls awoke the next day. The sun glared at them in the cloudless sky- but that wasnt what woke them up. It was the rumbling of a boat driving up to them."Uh oh!" Called Pope, "forgot your keys or something?!"John B also mocked them, "Need a tow?" "Don't give them the satisfaction of thinking this worked." Kie told the girls."Absolutely not." Sarah agreed."Sh- they're here." Y/N whispered. They stood up and sat on the front of the boat. Staring down at the boys. They were impressed that John B was driving since he still had his cast on. For some reason- Aiden was there. Kie broke character and her face of annoyance became confused. "Wait you're all friends now?" She asked."Yeah we uh- we sorted it out while you guys were trapped here." Aiden chuckled."He asked if he could help pick you guys up." Pope said and glanced at him sideways."You gotta admit it was funny." John B said."JJ." Y/N glared."Ohhh..." Pope said under his breath."Uh- yeah?" He looked nervous."Abandon me again-" she jumped onto the moving boat and walked up to him- almost pushing him off of the back, "and it'll be the last thing you ever do." She smiled.JJ chuckled and held Y/N's face in her hands, "miss me?""You fucking wish." She laughed and pretended she was about to push him overboard. Aiden watched them laugh with each other- emotionless.

"So your a Mastermind now John B?" Kie said at John B sly smile."I'm always planning." He said back to her."Thats Some patriotic bullshit." Kie glared."Yeah that sucked." Sarah also glared."You still love us though right?" JJ grinned and stood behind Y/N, wrapping his arms around her waist and putting his head on hers. He tossed Kie the rope to tie the boats together and kissed Y/N neck over and over again, making her laugh. She put her arms around the back of her head and over JJ's neck."He was pining all night." Aiden joked- that same look from yesterday in his eyes. Even JJ saw it, and he stopped."Hey you still hate me?" John B nodded at Sarah, grinning."A little. We're going to get you back when you least expect it.""True that." Y/N nodded and pointed at Sarah, using her other hand to shield her pretty E/C eyes from the sun."Watch your back boys." Kie smiled sweetly, finishing tying the boats together."I welcome that challenge." Pope smiled at the girls.John B knew his plan had worked, "Me too."

"So? Did you guys, you know..." he linked his fingers together."Reconcile our differences?" Kie ignored what Pope was insinuating."Mm-mm." Sarah shook her head."Not even close lads." Y/N slapped a hand on John B and Pope's shoulders. "But... we're... willing? to work together." Sarah crossed her arms."You know what? That's victory." Aiden said. "They told me all about what went down before..." he whistled."Woogidy woogidy woogidy." Pope reached behind him and JJ gave him a high-five. Y/N smiled, he was a lot more laid back lately... it was nice seeing Pope like that.Sarah winked at Kie and Y/N, Kie smiled and Y/N chuckled slightly."Know why? Hydroponic." JJ grinned.Pope shook his head and smiled "Don't say that.""All right- shut up. You guys ready to jack someone up?" John B said under his breath- so Aiden wouldn't hear."Yeah whatever." Kie jumped in the boat."Sure." Sarah followed.Aiden got onto the bigger boat and John B threw him the keys. "We trustin you Aiden!" He called."I won't break it!" Aiden grinned, "Y/N. 12? Tomorrow?""What?" She looked at him with confusion."Lunch at the Wreck." "Sounds good!" Kie smiled."Yeah I'm down." Nodded Pope."If it was as fun as last time we all hung out there." John B agreed.JJ nudged Y/N, "it will be." Y/N laughed, "niiice... bye Aiden!" She waved out the boat as they drive away. Aiden couldn't get a word in edgewise. "I meant just us. You said so yesterday... already forgotten about me. I've been replaced by two girls." He mumbled to himself- spinning his hands in his lap and watching the friends fly off down the waters in fits of laughter."Let's get it!" JJ cried."Woo!" They all chorused.

"Everyone out!" John B said as the boat pulled up outside of his house. The HMS wasn't kept at the Cameron's as it was John B's boat. It wasn't usually kept their anyway. The Pogues climbed out one after the other and Pope fetched a long rope, flashlights and a pulley from inside- along with dark sets of clothes. The Pogues have stayed around so many times it wasn't hard to find six sets of black clothes.

John B swung the keys around his finger, he strolled towards the Twinkie and unlocked it."Oh my- what's that smell?" Sarah scrunched up her nose. John B smiled as he struggled to open up the door- casts made things difficult- and pointed to Y/N and JJ."Weed." Y/N flew Into the side door.JJ jumped in after, "you're welcome!"The group piled into the van together. "Do we have a grappling hook?" JJ asked Pope- who sat up front with John B."No grappling hook." He replied. "We're not Batman."

The road to the Crain's was a long one. No one remembered it being this long before- but by the time they got there it was dark! "We have a Pulley right?" John B said Into the back."Yep." Kie held it up."Dark clothes?" Y/N put them into piles, "Got em.""And the flashlights too?" "Sarah held up one of the six flashlights, "here they are!""All right, good." The lights on the van flickered out as it rolled to a halt next to the wall.

They had all changed in the van. Looking suspicious all dressed in black- Sarah tied up her hair and Kie had a beanie on, Y/N had a bandanna around her hair. John B and Pope wore hoodies and JJ had a camo balaclava around his neck.Sarah glanced at John B, "be careful." She smiled and kissed him."I will." John B smiled back and blushed. Y/N was reminded to the months before today- where the beginning of this started... when Kie kissed John B. But this time she was willing to let it be someone else. Kie didn't love John B like that... she just didn't want someone to swoop in and steal him away. But there they were- still afloat even if it's more aboard than expected.

"Uh- we're... we're ready." John B nodded."Let's go" Kie opened the side door."Let's go get rich guys!" JJ jumped out.Y/N and Sarah followed him out."Hell yeah!" Kie shut the door behind Sarah- who got out last. Kie and Y/N, while being in figure 8, were not as rich as the others there were. So Kie and her were still excited to find five fucking hundred million.

The trees were alive with the birds of the night, and crickets chirped in the long grass around them. "Let's roll." Y/N said, turning on her torch."Let's roll." JJ repeated, doing the same.Sarah smiled, glad to finally be apart of things, "right on!""Wait, wait." John B said, stopping everyone. They all looked to him. "I want to say thank you guys. Seriously." He looked to them one at a time with gratitude in his eyes. "It means a lot to me that you're here tonight."Kie smiled and rolled her eyes, "always." They looked at each other and felt a deep friendship.Pope chuckled, "of course." They did a small handshake from when they were kids."My man." John B grinned.Sarah smiled at him and they looked into each other's eyes with love and excitement."Sorry to break the mothers meeting." Y/N chuckled."If we're done with the circle jerk, let's do this." JJ readjusted the rope on his arm."Let's get that watery wheat." Pope said and climbed over the wall.JJ's ears pricked "Weed? I'm up for weed.""Bro take a rest." Y/N laughed."I said wheat" Pope shook his head with amusement.

Pope hit the floor first. Y/N went after him and lended with a thud. Kie then climbed up and helped Sarah over, dropping her down to Y/N. JJ threw himself over the wall, landing with a jolt and almost bowling Sarah over. John B jumped over after him, landing gracefully next to Pope.They tracked through the wild garden- much like the other day, the lights from the torches shone against the darkness of the night- spreading shadows and casting dances and flickerings of light as it each person passed.

Suddenly an alert light flickered on at the mere sight of movement. They dove into cover.Sarah gasped "shit!""Oh shit." JJ dove down behind a bush."Flashlights!" Y/N advised. They all clicked off. Except for one."Go go go go!" Pope pushed John B into cover."Flashlight John B!" Kie hissed."It's on strobe!" He struggled. His cast didn't make it any easier. It clicked off- darkness."Shhhh...." John B's voice cut into the night."So she has motion sensor lights." Pope started to panic."Well we'll just have to move... really slowly." Offered Y/N."Yeah- it's easy." JJ shrugged. "What?" Sarah stared at them."That's not how it works." Pope sighed.John B's eyes lit up with an idea, "Oh shit let's throw a rock at it!" "What?!" Pope was exasperated. "Thats a great idea. let the axe murderer know we're here." Kie said sarcastically."So we have move slowly or throw a rock at it?" Pope sighed in disbelief."You got a better idea?" John B hissed back."Anything but those." Kie said."What about the breaker?" Everyone looked to Sarah. "In the circuit box on the porch?""Sarah for the win." Grinned Y/N."We played hide and seek here as kids I know where it is. If we were brave enough to go to the porch we'd see it.""No. No. You're not going to that house alone." John B shook his head."...Watch me." Sarah shot back."Crain chops people into pieces." JJ stated."If you believe that. But what she's like, 85?" Y/N shrugged."Yeah... something like that. Probably barely kicking." Sarah said."We'll go." Kie pointed to Y/N and herself."Yeah." Sarah nodded and smiled."We'll wait for your signal." Pope hunched over, ready to run for it."Okay cool.""Hey-" John B held Sarah's Hands, "be safe."JJ held Y/N dramatically and dipped her to the floor like a princess, "please..." he said in a husky voice, brushing the hair from her face, "be safe." "I'll be so safe. I'll be safe for you." Y/N replied, putting a hand to her forehead."Can you guys stop?!" Snapped John B. "I'm gunna kill you.""But how would that keep them safe." Whispered Pope. JJ scoffed, "yeah. Cya baby." And he kissed her nose."Cya stinky." Said Y/N, and she followed Sarah towards the door, pulling the bandanna over her mouth.

Sarah ducked under a branch that stuck out before her. Kie pushed it out the way and it smacked Y/N's face."Oh shit-""Sh-" kie hushed and waved her hand at Y/N.After a bit of sneaking and crawling through bushes they reached the porch where the breaker box was- in the other side of the house. "She must have a generator plugged into the main power supply." Sarah observed.The steps up to the door were creaky and worn. The girls tried to get up as slowly as they could. Sarah shone the torch at the box and Y/N opened it up."Where are the breakers?" Sarah asked..."What is this?!" Kie started to panic."Oh no... no no no." Y/N said."What?" Sarah bit her lip, she knew what was coming."It's inside." Y/N took Sarah's hand and pointed it along the wire that attached the box to the breaker inside.

The barred door opened slowly. It was unlocked- not surprising. But Kie when tried the actual door- locked."Here give me your hair pin." Y/N held out her hand at Sarah. She placed the pin in her hand and Y/N rummaged around in the lock. It clicked and the door fell inwards."How did you-""JJ wanted to prank John B in the shower a while back- he taught me how." She smiled and handed the clip back to Sarah.

Slowly entering the house, the door creaked and shut behind them. The girls knew that this was more than enemy territory. This was dangerous territory. They would get arrested if they were caught here- if their bodies were found that is. Sarah lit up the downstairs of the old house with her torch. Kie looked around for any sign of the breaker. They were all deadly on edge..A loud cat yelp caused Kie to leap backwards. She had almost trodden on the furball. The three girls stood stock still. No one dared move. Some glasses tinkled as the cat ran past them and up the stairs. Kie looked up and saw more wires coming out from the wall, "hey, look." She pointed up."I see it." Sarah followed it with her torch and the girls trailed behind the light. It crossed a corner and Kie grinned as her eyes laid upon a blue box. They chuckled softly."Mission impossible music climax..." Y/N whispered and she flicked her switch. It was loud- but not too loud. They hoped. Another switch click. The generator powered down. The world around them lost all ounces of light bar Sarah's torch. Y/N didn't realize how many lights were actually on until they were off.

The sensor light dimmed and went out. The boys were outside- anxiously waiting for the signal."They did it." John B smiled."Of course. It's go time." JJ pulled up his balaclava over his mouth and rested it on his nose. The girls saw a faint shimmer of light flicker outside- "the boys must've set out by now." Y/N nodded. A whirring sound. Creeeeek.They couldn't help but gasp. Sarah quickly flicked off her torch and the girls stood flat against a wall."Shit." Whispered Sarah.More sounds of movement. Someone was awake. Below them- small voices were heard. JJ, Pope and John B we're starting their expedition. Y/N gulped, looking down at them praying they didn't get caught.

The wind whistled through an open window- making it harder to hear anything. Upstairs, a cane was tapping on the floorboards- right above the stairs."I can't get arrested again...." Y/N felt her heart race."Again?" Sarah looked at her, but Y/N just put a finger to her lips. Sarah nodded.Cough. Wheeze. Mrs Crain was there.A shuffling and thumping were heard just around the wall. Y/N bit down on the bandanna over her mouth. She hadn't felt this afraid in a long time. "The rooster" she randomly whispered quietly.Sarah looked confused but Kie understood- putting a hand on her shoulder.Mrs Crain breathed heavily. Thumping down the stairs with her fire-poker Cane."Shit..." Sarah looked like she was about to cry. Kie covered her own mouth roughly with her hand- trying to silence even her breathing.

"It's— it's late Leon..." said the old woman. "Too late..." she coughed. She passed by the girls. Inches away. "Hm..." she said... and paused. Before continuing on. Her fire poker almost stuck into Y/N's foot, she pulled it out of the way just in time. Unfortunately/ that made a noise.Mrs. Crain turned to look at them. Her clouded, milky eyes searched for something she couldn't see. She was blind. After an agonising second, she continued on."I can hear you Leon." She whispered ominously.Sarah bit her lip. "I've been waiting all night!" She screamed- spinning around suddenly to face the girls with her hollow eyes and yellow teeth. Sarah's torch flicked on- Her short grey hair stuck out all over, its shadow dancing on the wall. Mrs Crain stabbed her firepoker where the girls stood. Y/N pushed into Kie who fell into Sarah and out of the way from Mrs Crain's fire poker. It left a hole in the wall where Kie's head was seconds ago. "Run!" Kie raced off as Sarah screamed. "Go! Come on!" Y/N dragged Sarah behind them who was in freeze for a second, before she too ran.

They flew through room after room in pitch black darkness. Each door clattered as they barged through it. Mrs Crain always seemed to be blocking the exit... and they were starting to get lost in her big house. Panting and throwing open old, creaking doors to try to escape. "LEON!" Mrs Crain screeched."Jesus is this how she treats her cat? Do we need to call the aspca?"

"Shit!" Kie whispered as she skidded around a corner to run from Mrs Crain. Falling into another darkened room."Oh no... no no no.." Y/N looked around her and couldn't see Sarah or Kie. "Guys?!"Sarah was yanking on a Locked door, "oh shit!" Somehow, in the desperate sprint from Mrs Crain, they'd become separated.

"Where are you Leon?!" Screamed Mrs Crain- right around the corner from Y/N. She leapt out of the doorway and Mrs Crain's stick hit the wall where Y/N was standing seconds prior. "Where's that gun when I need it?!" She felt tears gather in her eyes, burring her vision. She stumbled and tripped over a rug in the floor, and felt Mrs Crain's cold hands scratch her arms- trying to pull her back. She was smacking her fire poker around and screeching- thankfully smashing plates instead of Y/N's head.

"Kiara!" Sarah careened past Y/N and grabbed her wrist, yanking her from Mrs Crain's arms and t0 the door where Kie appeared from. They were gasping for breath as Mrs Crain brough her stick down towards Kie. Kie screamed and Y/N jumped forwards, snatching at the cane. She felt it crush into the side of her head. Her hands helped take some of the impact but fresh blood still poured from a new wound on her temple. She took another swing in a frenzy and Sarah grabbed the firepoker- it hit her in the stomach and she cried out- It was Kie managed to grab it and throw it to the floor. "Come on!" Y/N groaned and grabbed them both."This way!" Sarah began to take the lead and threw themselves towards the front door. They slammed it shut behind them and barricaded it with their bodies. They heard Mrs Crain yelp as she smashed into it."Fast for a blind old woman...." Kie panted.

They reached the outside world- but there no time to calm down. Y/N burst into the room with the well. Pope saw the blood on her face "Hey John B!" She shouted. Mrs Crain clattering behind.JJ also shouted "We need to go! Now!" "Hold on! I'm coming!" John B replied from deep in the well."Come on we need to pull him up!" Y/N jumped forwards and grabbed the rope."Okay yeah let's pull" Sarah agreed.

The five of them tried to pull him out of the well."One- two- three- pull!" They yanked the rope holing John B with all their strength but the rope slipped from their grip and fell into the well below. Sending the five of them scattered to the floor."Oh Shit!""SHIT!""Holy fuck!!""Where is he!?""John B are you ok?!" They all scrambled to their feet and ran to John B stuck in the well."Guys!!" John B yelled."Guys sh-" Kie said...

"I FOUND THE GOLD!" It echoed around the well, hard to understand."What's he saying?" JJ uttered."JJ! Y/N! POPE! KIE! SARAH! I FOUND THE GOLD!" He repeated."Yo he's drowning!" Kie shouted.JJ and Pope yanked the rope from the well using the pulley to help them find the loose end."We gotta pull him up!" Sarah cried.Y/N rubbed the blood from her face and leapt up to help pull him up."John B get on the rope! We're gunna pull you up!" Kie shouted as her and Sarah went to help pull again.

Mrs Crain wheezed at the top of the stairs."Come on!" Kie shouted.Y/N went on standby at the rope, "get him out of there!""Okay Everybody help!" JJ started yelling too."I'm on" John B called up to them."Okay let's go!" Pope began pulling. John B was heavy and Pope took most of the weight. They pulled him out of there as fast as they could- but the well was deep.And Mrs Crain had a gun.They groaned from the strain on their arms. Torches flashing around the room in panic."Come on!" Pope grunted.Kie yelled loudly and Y/N felt like screaming, her head pounding."Pul-"BANG!Sarah screamed. "Shit!" Kie ran to see if she was ok.

"Jesus!" JJ grimaced and held the rope tighter. The pulley span quickly- the rope dropped further down."Fuck!" JJ's hands began to burn, Pope, him and Y/N winced as the rope ripped into their hands."Hold on John B" Y/N shouted as loudly as she could."Guys what the hell?!" John B called up to them."Tie it now man!" Pope commanded. Y/N ran to tie the rope up so it wouldn't slip further."Climb up! Hang on!" JJ was in a frenzy.

John B was left dangling down the well as the Pogues ran for cover.Mrs Crain wobbled over, gun cocked."Go! Go!" Kie pulled Sarah under a table with her."She can't see!" Sarah told everyone."Can't aim for shit." Y/N said, trying to seem together.Another gunshot- skimming the table where Kie and Sarah were."go!" They flew towards the exit.

Y/N gasped and bit on the bandanna that had fallen around her neck.The gun cocked again.John B's Hands slapped onto the well wall. Somehow- miraculously- he had climbed up with his arm in a cast. He was covered in... mud? Hopefully.BANG!Pope JJ and Y/N scrambled to their feet- she needed time to reload, "go go!" Pope shouted."I don't care if she's blind that's buckshot!" JJ yelled as he ran.Mrs Crain made shots at the friends as they ran towards the well and yanked John B from inside it, hands covered in mud. They could barely see anything as they ran frantically towards the stairs and away from Mrs Crain. And suddenly, they felt fresh air brush their faces."Woo!" John B shouted as the slammed the door behind them.

Sarah and Kie had already scaled the wall and started the van when John B, JJ, Y/N and Pope started scrambling over.Another gunshot made everyone jump.Y/N and JJ fell to the floor, leaping into the van. JJ climbing into the drivers seat. Pope followed shortly after."John B?!" Y/N shouted.They left the door open for John B to jump in."John B!" Sarah shouted as the van started to move."Come one run!" Kie reached her hand out the door.BANG."Why are we always getting shot at?!" Pope cried out.The van started to pick up speed and John B leapt Into the air, "Fucking come on!" Y/N pushed past everyone and grabbed his arm, heaving him roughly into the van. The door slammed shut and then all the shouting started.

"Shit!" Pope said as saw the state of John B."Oh my god..." kie looked repulsed.Y/N climbed up front with JJ as Sarah yelled "JJ drive!""Go man!!" Shouted Pope.Y/N looked out the window and tied her bandana around her head. It had mostly stopped bleeding now- only a superficial wound but it would leave a mark for a while.Y/N turned to see the commotion and bust out laughing. She hit JJ's hand- telling him to look at John B."Oh my god!" He laughed loudly- very amused. The adrenaline ran deep in their blood as they drove away. Shouting and yelling, screaming and laughing.

"No one was shot?!" Y/N asked the Pogues as they panted. They all shook their heads. The van was filled with words- just layers and layers of loud, heavy words..Once they piped down Pope said to John B,"You look. Disgusting.""God you smell like ass." Laughed Kie."What the hell just happened." Sarah was in shock."It's the Pogue Life babyyy!!!" And Y/N punched the roof. They all followed her lead and called out "Pogue Life!""This goes in the all time Pogue hall of Fame!" JJ gasped.Kie grinned "Hell yeah!" "That bitch is possessed!" Kie gestured to the house."That bitch can't aim." Y/N laughed."How does she move that fast..." panted Pope.Kie laughed again, "she's possessed!"John B took something from his pocket."I don't get it... she's so fast." "She's blind somehow.""Oh my god she's insane.""Got that reputation for a reason!""Like master Yoda!"John B rubbed the mud from the rectangle in his hand.It was golden."Maybe she does yoga?!""Pilates?"Silence. Their eyes fell upon John B."Oh, GOD!" JJ cried out."Oh, my god!" Gawked Sarah."Is that-" Y/N began to laugh hysterically, "is that the gold?!""No you didn't..." Pope gasped."We did it baby!" John B grinned so wide his cheeks ached.

Pope's eyes grew wide and he began to smile. The whole van of Pogues shrieked- the excitement made the air buzz and flicker."I did it!!!" John B yelled.JJ turned to look at him, "Oh my god!!!""That's fucking gold!!!" Y/N freaked.The Pogues celebrated loudly, screaming and shaking the van so much It was hard for JJ to drive."I did it!!!" John B yelled again.They were so happy and excited and thrilled and just Ecstatic that anyone nearby would have thought it was a bunch of howling monkeys in that van.

"Holy shit! Holy shit!! Holy shit!!!" Kie couldn't sit still.Sarah looked up and shrieked at the roof."Who-hoo-hoo!!" JJ shouted.Pope waved his arms around like mad and just screamed with a huge smile on his face."That's gold!!!" Y/N and JJ punched the roof again and grinned with pure joy. She grabbed his hand and shook it with excitement.Kie held out her hands, "wait! Wait! Guys we're gonna be rich!!!!""Full kook!" John B shouted.The Pogues looked at each other "Full Kook! Full Kook! Full Kook! Full Kook!" They chanted. "Ay-ay-ay-ay!!!!" And then went back to screaming and dancing like animals. Howling like wolves. The air was filled with so much joy and happinesses. It grew from their chests and bloomed up into their heads. The still night air shook with their delight- whooping and screaming at the top of their lungs.
