never mind

*a few days later*

"I'm gonna die of boredom real soon" Taylor sighed as the pair pulled up at the district, jay smiled, "well Will did say you could do light work, so maybe voight'll fix something up for you" he raised an eyebrow, Taylor smirked since she liked the sound of getting out in the streets again.  The pair walked into the station and received their usual morning greetings, "you're all on call today sorry" hank sighed.  They all sighed in defeat but taylors eyes lit up, "does that mean I can actually do something?" She tilted her head at her boss.  Hank paused for a second, "fine, but if a call comes over the radio you wait for back up" he nodded.  Taylor nodded and smiled thankfully as jay just laughed seeing her get excited over work.

The pair pulled up outside of a corner store, "I feel like a rookie again" Taylor sighed.  Jay just laughed, "miss Taylor Rose Watson, an ex secret agent feeling like a rookie. Can you believe it?" He smirked. Taylor gasped and slapped his arm but she laughed too, the pair talked about anything and everything, they were like high schoolers gossiping about people all over again. They had been sat there for a while, about 2 hours and they still had nothing, "I'm starving, you coming?" She pointed to the store.  Jay looked at her with a raised eyebrow but nodded, she smiled so the pair got out and wandered into the small corner store.

Taylor went straight to the candy aisle but jay went for a drink, once he had grabbed the first thing he could find he walked over to find Taylor since he wasn't as fussy as she was.  He smirked when he saw her still deciding, "it's not that hard to pick something" he leant on the shelf, Taylor looked up and gave him a sassy expression, "I'm on my period Halstead, so I'll have you know it's very difficult" she smirked.  Jay nodded, "copy that" he smiled. Once Taylor had decided on a mini Hershey's bar she smiled and stood up, she went to say something but a voice saying something in the background caught her attention.

"Jazzy! Jazmin..." a deep male voice called out. Taylor perked up and looked over her shoulder to see where the voice was coming from, it was all a little too familiar to her, the name, the voice, everything. Jay noticed her confusion, "what's up?" He stepped closer to her. Taylor shook her head, "oh, uhm I thought I...never mind, it's nothing" she smiled weakly and walked off leading jay over to the cashier.  Jay was a little confused, he knew something clearly bothered her but he also knows how she likes to keep her feelings to herself until she physically can't any longer.  "Keep the change" Taylor smiled.  The pair made their way back over to jays truck, but taylors mind was elsewhere, it was a kind of distracted face jay had never seen before.

Jay noticed how out of it she seemed all of a sudden, "you sure you're okay?" He placed a hand on her knee, her reaction took him by surprise as she flinched at his touch and looked at him regretfully, "oh, I'm sorry..." she relaxed into the chair.  Jay sat up a little and turned to face her, "what's wrong Tayls? You look a little pale..." he placed a hand on her head.  Taylor just shook her head, "I'm fine, probably just my breakfast not agreeing with me" she smiled shyly.  Jay frowned, it was obvious her mind was going a million thoughts a second but he couldn't help her unless she let him and so far she wasn't letting him in.  He went to reassure her but the radio broke them out of thought, "shots fired coming from 2348 west ave..." the dispatch caller spoke calmly.

Taylor nodded at jay so he started his truck and began driving to their location, as he was sat in traffic he noticed her looking into the abyss and bouncing her leg up and down, it broke his heart knowing she was bothered by something but the one thing he's learnt from dating her is to let her process whatever it is first before helping her, and the same goes for jay too. Eventually the pair arrived at the scene but there was already backup there so Taylor could get out and move around, "stay behind me" jay warned her as they approached the building. Taylor obeyed since she knew jay would put her back on desk duty himself if she didn't, she crept behind him as they both held their guns up.

Once they had found the offender jay arrested him and handed him over to some patrol officers nearby, Taylor seemed extremely pre-occupied but jay didn't push her for answers just yet, even Kim noticed how disoriented she seemed. Kim flashed jay a concerned nod in taylors direction, but he just shrugged with a worried glare on his face so she nodded in defeat and frowned at the sight of her best friend looking so gloomy. Hank nodded at his team as they stood in a protective semi circle, "head back guys, we'll take over from homicide" he informed them. They all smiled and nodded as they made their way back over to their vehicles to drive back to the district and crack on with saving the city.

At the end of the day Taylor wasn't as distracted anymore but the thought of what happened in the store earlier this afternoon was still in the back of her mind and she knew jay was worried about her too. Hank sighed and walked out into the bullpen, his jacket already on, "head out guys, good work today" he smiled weakly like he always does and waved them off. They all sighed in relief and made their way out of the station, "pizza?" Jay opposed as the pair got in the car. Taylor smiled thankfully and nodded so jay stopped by a pizza join on the way home and picked up some pepperoni pizza for them to head back home with.

The pair walked through the door and kicked off their boots as jay slid the pizza onto the counter, living together felt so natural now and they wouldn't have it any other way. Jay smiled, "let's watch a movie" he tilted his head and pointed to the couch with his leg. Taylor smiled thankfully again and got 2 beers out of the fridge, they sat down and browsed for a film, a good old classic, 'back to the future'. It wasn't until half way through the film when jay saw taylors distracted face in the reflection of the mirror around the fireplace, she was leaning against the side of his chest with his arm around her and both of their legs on the coffee table.

"You alright?" He squeezed her arm a bit, Taylor nodded slowly, "do you remember that guy from the store earlier today?" She spoke quietly. Jay nodded confidently, "the one that shouted of his kid? Yeah why?" He rubbed his thumb along her arm. Taylor lifted her head up from his shoulder, "yeah him...I just-forget about it" she shrugged and placed her head back down on his chest. Jay frowned, "hey it's okay, you can tell me" he sat up to look at her. She looked away from him and bit her bottom lip nervously, she stayed silent for a few seconds so jay placed a hand under her chin and made her look at him. She forcefully yet slowly looked at him again with tears in her eyes, "you can tell me Tayls..." he wiped away a stray tear that had escaped down her face and cupped her cheek.

After a few seconds of Taylor composing herself, she nodded and grabbed his hand, "he shouted of his kid. Jazzy, or jazmin should I say. And uh, It was just a coincidence but I-that was the name my captors gave me when they took me as a kid..." she looked down. Jays face dropped, "oh Tayls..." he lifted her head back up to see her tears streaming down her face. He wasted no time and pulled her into a hug straight away as they laid back down in the couch, "shhhhh, it's okay. I'm here, I've got you..." he ushered her painful sobs into a quieter and more calmer whimper. Taylor tilted her head to the side, "I guess it just brought back memories I never knew I had..." she shrugged.

Jay planted a kiss on her forehead, "you're okay, we'll get through it" he cupped her cheek again.  Taylor nodded and smiled before they laid back down on the couch to finish to film, by the time the credits rolled down the screen they were exhausted and it was 12:56am.  They decided to get up and go to bed, jay half expected a night terror to wake Taylor up but luckily she didn't have one and they slept the night peacefully.
