Chapter 5 - A New Friend?

Chapter 5 – A New Friend?

The Parallel Universe Doctor's P.O.V.

"Well. My life started with a Rose." I smiled.

"Rose? Is she your girlfriend?" Maddy asked, through the dried up tears.

"She's my wife. Was my wife." I whispered, looking down to the floor.

"Oh. What happened to her?"

"I lost her. She....died. Her whole family did. It was my fault" I admitted, as my eyes began to well up.

"I doubt it was, Doctor."

"No, it was. I introduced Rose to a life of aliens a long time ago. But this time I couldn't save her. I couldn't save any of them." I sobbed, thinking of Rose.

"What happened? Tell me everything. I'm a good listener." Maddy smiled, placing her hand on mine.

"I was born out of a hand. It was to do with a girl named Donna. She was an old companion of the real me. She was brilliant. Something was converging our time lines and she soon got trapped in the TARDIS. She touched the spare hand of the real me and I grew out of it. A meta-crisis Doctor." I explained, giving her a confused look a weak smile.

"You grew out of The real Doctor's 'spare' hand?"

"Yeah."

"My god, that's a weird start to a story." She muttered, rolling her eyes.

"Tell me about it. Anyway, The Doctor bought Rose back here to the Parallel Universe, but left me here too. As a sort of replacement. I loved the idea. Because I was part human, it meant I could grow old with Rose. A proper adventure the real me could never have. A real life." I continued.

"What I'd do for a real life." Maddy admitted.

"It's not all it's cracked up to be. Sure I was with the ones I loved, but I'm still part of The Doctor. I wanted to travel the stars. Rose did too. I'm kind of connected to the real Doctor, so I can feel the way he does when he travels the universe." I explained.

"You're connected to The Doctor? Can't you tell him I'm here somehow?" She asked, looking hopeful.

"I'm sorry, Maddy. But no. It's just our feelings that are connected. I'm sorry."

"It's fine. Stupid me for getting my hopes up." She said, smiling weakly.

"Don't be like that. You'll get back. I promised, didn't I?"

"Whatever. So, what happened with Rose?" She asked, changing the subject back to me.

"Oh yeah. I stayed here with Rose and her family. We lived in Pete, Rose's dad, and Jackie's, Rose's mum, mansion, with her little brother Tony. Me and Rose worked for Pete at Torchwood. Torchwood works around aliens, so it was good to have a little adventure. So it was just me, Rose, Pete, Jackie and Tony. Until 7 months ago."

"What happened?" Maddy inquired, raising an eyebrow at me.

"I woke up to Rose being sick in the bathroom. I knew it wasn't normal, as we had been given injections at work to stop us getting ill. I checked if she was okay and that's when I found out she was pregnant. I was going to be a dad. Jackie found out and insisted we got married. Rose didn't fancy a big do, so we popped off down to the registry office and got hitched. Mr and Mrs Doctor Smith."

"Doctor Smith?" She laughed.

"Yeah, I don't have a last name, so we chose Smith. We were doing okay. We had just brought a little flat, down the road from here actually. We found out we were having a little girl. We painted her room pink and decided to call her Donna Jackie Smith. Donna because she's the reason I'm here and Jackie, after Rose's mum. Everything was so perfect." I smiled, as tear snaked down my cheek.

"Then? I guess something happened? Otherwise you wouldn't be here....and crying..." Maddy said, wiping away my tear with the back of her hand.

"Sorry. I just didn't like the ending to our story. Last week, Rose and me were at work, when something happened. The alarms started to go off and we were all called into action. We were given guns and told to get into positions. Then, a Dalek rolled round the corner. I killed a lot of the workers, before it got to us. Pete shouted at me to get Rose out of here, as she was pregnant. I didn't think twice." I explained.

"This Dalek. What did it look like?" She asked, looking worried.

"Was bigger than the old Daleks. It was white too. Like a supreme Dalek." I replied.

"Oh my god." She muttered, looking to the floor.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. It's nothing. Sorry, carry on with your life story." Maddy rushed.

"Alright. We teleported back to our flat, where we grabbed some stuff. We then moved over to Pete and Jackie's house, only to find Pete there.

~*~Flashback~*~

"Pete? Why are you back here?" I asked, pulling Rose into the living room.

"It got them. I was the only one alive! I had to get out. Thing is Doctor, we have to leave. Right now!" Pete rushed, shoving stuff in a bag.

"Why? Dad, what'shappening? What's wrong?" Rose shouted, running to her father.

"That Dalek is tracking all the teleport devices. It's following us here. We need to get out." Pete explained, causing silence.

"Oh my god. Where's mum and Tony?"

"You mother is upstairs getting Tony ready to go. Are you two ready? I don't want you getting worked up, Rose. It's not good for the baby." Pete said, hugging Rose.

"Pete's right, Rose. Why don't you go upstairs and help Jackie?" I suggested, giving her a quick smile.

"I will. I love you." She replied, giving me a quick peck on the lips.

"Love you too. Now go." I commanded, before she ran off.

"Doctor, I need you to promise me something. If I don't make it I want to to get them all out alive." Pete said, looking me in the eye.

"Pete. Don't talk like that!"

"Promise me, Doctor. Save them."

"Promise the same for me, then." I said.

"I promise." He replied.

"I promise too."

Everything was going fine. We packed all our bags, but Rose, Jackie and Tony were still upstairs. That's when it happened. A large explosion went off followed by screaming. Me and Pete rushed out the living room, to see the upstairs area on fire. Rose came running out to the top of the stairs carrying Tony. She quickly ran to us, handing Tony to her dad.

"Rose! What happened? Are you alright?" I shouted, over the noise of the house breaking from the fire.

"Doctor, it's the Dalek. It's here! It got mum! Then set fire to everything! We've got to help mum!" Rose cried, through her tears.

"Doctor! I'll go find Jackie, you stay here with Rose and Tony! Look after them!" Pete yelled, handing Tony back to Rose before running off.

"Doctor, we have to help them!"

"Rose, your dad made me promise to look after you and I intend to keep that promise! Pete will be fine! I promise!" I smiled, pulling her hand into mine.

"EXTERMINATE!"

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" Pete screamed, from the top of the stairs.

"DAD! OH MY GOD, DAD! SPEAK TO ME! PLEASE!" Rose screamed, looking at her dad on the floor.

Soon we couldn't see Pete, as the smoke over took him. But then the Dalek rolled out. It spotted us straight away and screech 'Exterminate'. It blasted it's ray at us, but we threw ourselves apart. I landed by the door, while the room was set on fire. I couldn't see Rose through the smoke. But I eventually found her. For the last time.

"ROSE!" I screamed, looking around at the burning room.

"DOCTOR! Where are you?" She yelled back.

"I'm by the doors! Hurry Rose! We need to get out!" I shouted, coughing as the smoke surrounded me.

"DOCTOR! I can't leave!" She replied, as she pushed her way through to me.

"Rose, we need to go now! I'm sorry! We have too or we'll die!" I begged, clutching her hand.

"But mum and dad! Doctor we can't just leave them!" She cried, trying to pull us back inside.

"I'm sorry Rose! I'm so sorry! But their gone. We can't save them!"

"Doctor. Please! They can't be dead! We have to help them!" She yelled, as tears fell from her eyes.

"Rose. You know they are! We saw them.....die. I am really so sorry! We have to go before the same happens to us!" I shouted, pulling her towards to doors.

"ROSE!" A child's voice shouted.

"Tony? TONY!" Rose screamed, pulling her hand from mine.

"ROSE NO!" I shouted, as she ran off into the smoke.

I ran. I ran into the smoke, in hope of finding my Rose again. I never did. The burning room soon came to much for me and I collapsed to the floor. My eyes began to shut, but before they did I heard one last thing.

"EXTERMINATE!"

Followed by a scream.

Rose's scream.

~*~Flashback~*~

"Apparently other Torchwood's, U.N.I.T and Emergency services turned up soon after. They tried to kill the Dalek but it took off again. It's somewhere in the Universe still." I explained, now in tears from explaining the memory.

"Oh Doctor. I am so sorry." Maddy said, pulling me into a hug.

"Don't be. It wasn't your fault."

"But it was."

"How was it your fault? You weren't even there." I said, pulling away from her.

"A while back I fought the Daleks. But before I could kill them all, the last Dalek did an emergency temperal shift. I never saw it again, but I'm guessing the one that got your family was the one I let get away. It was my fault. I should have killed it when I had the chance." She explained, looking guilty.

"Oh, Madison. It wasn't your fault. Please don't blame yourself for this. It won't help anything."

"Do you blame yourself? For what happened?"

"Yes. Because it was actually my fault. I was there. I should have sent Rose home and stayed and fought the Dalek with Torchwood. Now Rose, Jackie, Pete, Tony and our baby is gone." I replied, my eyes swimming with tears again.

"Don't blame yourself. It won't help anything. You couldn't help what happened. It wasn't your fault." Maddy said, giving me a weak smile.

"Yeah, alright I get it. We both shouldn't blame ourselves." I laughed.

"No, we shouldn't. Wow we are so messed up!" She joked.

"Oh yes..."

"Doctor?" A voice asked, making our both our heads snap up.

"Katie? What are you doing here?" I asked, standing to face the girl.

"I was just on my way home from work. Why are you out here?" Katie asked, looking shocked to see me.

"I was just meeting with an old friend." I lied.

"Oh. I thought you were still in hospital?"

"No, I got discharged a few days ago. That's why I'm here!" I smiled. Lie again.

"Oh right. Look, Doctor. I am really sorry about what happened to Rose and the family. I only found out the day before last."

"Don't be sorry. It was an accident." Lies.

"I see. Did they find out what caused the fire?" She asked.

"Not yet, no. I'll let you know when I find out. Oh where are my manors? Katie, this is my friend Madison. Madison, this is Katie. She's an old friend of the family." I said, trying to change the subject.

"Hi, Katie. Nice to meet you!" Maddy smiled, sticking her hand out.

"Pleased to meet you too." Katie replied, shaking her hand. "Umm, I don't want to seem rude, love. But are you alright?"

"Yeah.... I'm fine, thanks. Why?"

"Well you have a hole in your shirt and a rather large blood stain on it. You also have blood on your hands." Katie pointed out.

"Oh yeah. Didn't notice that." Maddy muttered, looking down at her top.

"Right. Okay.... Well I had better be off then, Doctor. I'll see you around. If you need anything. Just call me okay?"

"Will do, Katie. Thanks a lot. I'll you see you soon!" I replied, giving her a quick hug before she ran off.

"Why did she think you were still in hospital?" Maddy asked, making me turn to face her.

"After I passed out at the house, I went to hospital where I fell into a coma. I was in one for a week. Then I woke up and they told me the news. How I was alone. I stayed there for a few hours, before running off. I teleported to Bad Wolf Bay, where I met you. It's an important place for me and Rose there. I wanted to remember her." I explained, slouching down onto the bench again.

"I understand. If I lost somebody, I would go somewhere important to us. Want to know something though, Doctor?"

"What?"

"I'm glad you went to Norway. Otherwise I'd be really stuck." Maddy smiled, placing a hand over mine.

"You know what? I'm glad I went there too, Maddy!"

So, this book is going really well! Thank you. I really mean it. I never expected more than myself to read this and when 'MBTWAL' started getting reading I coudn't help cheer with joy! I never expected it to do so well that, that I has to write a sequel. So, thank you ever so much!
