"What are you doing here so early?" Jules asked walking up to Miguel who stood in front of the dojo

He jumped and quickly turned around, "hey Jules. He told us to be here at five."

"Oh" was all the girl said before shrugging and sitting on the curb

It went silent for a second and she was glad, she didn't need another person on her ass asking about if she made friends or how school was. Miguel sat down next to Jules.

"Can I show you something?" He asked and started pulling out his laptop and Jules looked over at what Miguel had

He explained it to the girl, how it was a website for Cobra Kai. She nodded seeing the cobra on the cover then giggled as it hissed. Jules was impressed that he made it in one study hall.

"Wow that's amazing, show that to Johnny." Just then, the red firebird pulled up. Speak of the devil, Jules got up and walked up to the wall right next to the door

Miguel smiled at their Sensei and followed him up to the door.

"Hey Sensei, you told us to be here at five, right?" Miguel asked as he walked up to the door

Johnny nodded and unlocked the door, "yeah but today's training is canceled."

That caught Jules's attention, her eyes went wide and she turned to Johnny. "What? Why?"

"Cause I said so." The girl rolled her eyes and followed Miguel into the dojo

He rushed after Johnny into his office rushing to pull out his laptop. Jules stood behind him ready to back up the boy.

"Wait Sensei, there's something that I wanna show you." Miguel pulled out his laptop as Johnny went to the fridge, pulling out a beer

"I think you'll like it." Jules smiled as she patted Miguel on the back, he walked forward and placed his laptop on the counter opening up to the website

Jules stood on the other side of Miguel, leaning over him as he explained. "It's a Cobra Kai webpage, right? I made it in study hall. Click on the snake."

Johnny leaned forward and clicked the button, the mouse was already on the snake. Jules smiled and giggled as the snake hissed and showed a sign-in screen.

"Badass Miguel." Jules laughed out

"Okay, this is the sign-in page. I was thinking, we can make an app where you track your progress, get a social media campaign going, get it out to the whole school." Miguel ranted on and Jules placed her hand on his shoulder, he nodded as he realized. "The possibilities are endless!"

A song interrupted their conversation, Jules recognized the song. It was "Round and Round" by Ratt, Miguel listened to Johnny's advice. He quickly searched for his phone before saying.

"It's my mom, I'll uh call her back later." Jules gave the boy a confused look. "Did I just hear Miguel Diaz say that he'll call him mom back later?"

He giggled and shook his head as Johnny asked about the song. "Hey, was that just?"

"Ratt? Awesome, right. I went online and looked up Guns N' Roses and ended up going on this whole '80s-rock rabbit hole. That shit is dope." Miguel said and Johnny smiled at the two teens

Jules and Miguel turned their head to Johnny. "Alright, meet me at the high school at midnight. Don't be late."

The girl stood up straight as Miguel got up from the ground, he gave their Sensei a confused expression.

"W-what for?" Johnny stared directly at the two, crossing his arms. "You wanna learn how to kick ass? First, you gotta learn how to kick."

Jules's smile grew, she had a new friend, a new dojo, and this was going to be her first actual lesson. Life didn't seem too bad anymore.

Jules opened the door to the bathroom, rubbing her hair with a towel. She headed to her room before remembering her plan, it was 11:20 which meant that if she waited for 5 minutes to make sure her mother was asleep or wouldn't notice her, Jules would have 20 minutes to get to the high school with 15 minutes to spare.

Jules smiled and headed towards her room, rushing to get dressed. She was going to sneak out of her room through the window but she needed to first make sure her mother was asleep. Slowly the girl tiptoed to her mother's room but her eyebrows furrowed when she didn't see her mother.

That meant, Victoria was downstairs still working. Jules walked over to the edge of the stairs.

"Mom!" She called. "I'm going to bed."

The girl waited there for a answer, her eyebrows furrowed when no answer came.

"Mom?" The girl called again but got no answer, Jules walked down the stairs

Her eyes landed on the couch where her mother sat. She didn't move when she heard Jules, slowly Jules walked up to the couch. Victoria was fast asleep, her papers strewn across the coffee table. Jules walked up to the couch, taking the blanket off the side and pulling it over her mother. She turned and walked up to the door silently and quickly sneaking out of the house.

Jules made it to the high school just in time, Johnny and Miguel were already there. The man standing cross armed as he looked over at Jules.

"Well look who here." Johnny said exasperated but Jules rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah don't get your panties in a twist."

Johnny turned around and opened up the door, the smell of chlorine wafted out from the pool. He clicked his light on and walked in, Miguel walked in after him and Jules was on the end.

Miguel was nervous. "Sensei, what are we doing here at midnight? You're sure we're supposed to be here?"

Johnny replied as he walked to the edge of the pool. "Yeah, don't worry. My buddy's the night janitor."

They reached a spot close to the pool, and Johnny grabbed the ropes from around his neck. He turned to the two teens.

"All right, let me see your hands." He told them, and they put their hands out

Johnny went to Miguel first, grabbing his hands and putting them together. He quickly tied them and moved to Jules who, as her Sensei tied her hands up, started to get a bad feeling.

"What are you doing?" She asked but Johnny didn't stop. "When you're in a fight, your first instinct is to use your hands, right? You gotta unlearn that and think with your legs."

Miguel looked down at his hands but no matter how hard he tried to pull, they were stuck. "Uh, how do we think with our legs."

Miguel and Jules stood opposite of Johnny, their backs to the pool which worked for the next part of Johnny's plan. Jules just looked over at Miguel.

"Well, you just, uh..." he tried explaining before he reached forward and pushed the teens back into the pool

Jules let out a yell before she hit the water and sank. Her eyes ripped open, she looked over to see Miguel struggling as well. She sunk lower until the girl frantically started kicking her legs, she needed air or else she was going to die. Her bounded hands did nothing to help, and so Jules kicked harder.

She was going to die and if she died then her mother would kill her or Johnny and she needed Johnny to teach her. No matter how hard she tried though, she couldn't reach the surface. It felt like she had been down there for hours, something grabbed her ponytail and pulled her head out of the water. The girl gasped and coughed trying to get air into her lungs.

"I'm drowning." Miguel coughed out

"No more Sensei." Jules added

Johnny shook his head. "Drowning is for pussies, all right? Don't be a pussy! Use your legs." He let go of his students, Jules took a huge breath before her head was submerged

She started kicking furiously and like her life depended on it (which it kinda did). Her legs were so tired and it felt like she was getting nowhere, the surface so close but so far away. Come on, she thought to herself, you can't die Jules looking up she saw Johnny's hands come back into the water.

He grabbed her ponytail again, he pulled the two out of the water. Jules gasped some more, her lungs burning from the lack of air.

"Please not again." She yelled out. "I'll die."

"We'll die, no more Sensei." Miguel gasped out

"'Cobra Kai never dies' say it." He told the two

"Cobra Kai never dies." The two pushed out still trying to breath but Johnny wouldn't take it. "Say it like your life depends on it!"

"Cobra Kai never dies!" The two yelled out

Johnny's voice became soft. "I'm not gonna help you two this time. You have all the power in your legs you need."

"What, no, no, please!" Jules begged

"Use it to kick your way up. Do you understand?" Johnny explained

"Yes Sensei!" Miguel yelled out but Jules was still begging. "No please!"

Her head went back underwater, Jules took a second to get under control before she started kicking furiously. She stared upwards as her legs pushed her up, her lungs began to burn but Jules couldn't stop. Her whole body felt like it was on fire, she kicked harder getting closer to the surface.

Finally Jules kicked hard enough, her face popped out of the water a few seconds after Miguel. She gasped and sputtered but never stopped kicking.

"Yes, that's it! Keep kicking!" She smiled at Johnny's words

They were in that pool for what felt like forever, Jules tried to keep her mind off of how tired her body was and just focus on kicking.

"Three minutes. Keep going."

Minutes passed and the two were still in the pool, they kicked and kicked until Jules was no longer tired. The only sense of time Jules had was the constant yelling of Johnny.

"Ten minutes!" He yelled and Jules smiled until she heard another voice

"Hey! What the hell are you doing?" It was the janitor

Johnny dropped down and pulled the two out. "Oh shit, we gotta go, we gotta go."

Jules pulled herself out of the pool and quickly stood up, untying herself as Johnny helped Miguel out of the pool.

"I thought you knew this guy." Miguel panted out but Johnny responded. "Of course not. I lied. Run"

They turned and headed towards the door, Jules was the first one out as the boys followed her. Once they were far enough away Jules fell to the ground, Johnny stopped by the girl and put his hand out.

"You're nothing like your mom." Jules smiled at the compliment, taking the man's hand. "And you're nothing like what she said you were."
