Doomed

Trying to keep up with the petite lady's fast walking, I bring my pace up, my heels sounding with an echo on the hard wooden floor. Why would the Chief want to talk with me?

This is weird, I've walked thousands of times past the Chief's office and yet it seems miles away. I try to make a conversation with the lady, in an attempt to understand what is going on.

"Um, why would the Chief want to see me?" I ask preparing myself for an answer.

"Is there something wrong with that?" She asks back, glancing at me through her shiny glasses.

"Um no, of course not." I deny nervously. "It's just that I can't come up with a reason for the Chief to see me."

"What do you mean you?" She asks pushing her glasses back to her nose. She stops walking and makes me crash with her back. She turns around and I bow apologetically.

"I mean, not even a month ago I was dealing with small cases and--"

"Exactly." She says shortly and before I can protest pushes me into the office. "Good Luck." She says with a nod before leaving.

"Wai--"

"Ah, Man Min Young." I hear an unmitakable voice call me.

I turn around immediately and walk towards the Chief. He's sitting behind his large desk with his black suit and tie. His smile is quite adorable to be a Chief.

"Chief. I, um, I heard you called me." I say playing with my fingers, considering on biting my nails nervously.

"Oh, come on Min Young-ssi, don't act all stuck up and sit down." He says chuckling and signaling to the 2 chairs in front of his desk.

I smile nervously before sitting in front of him. He smiles reassuringly.

"I wanted to talk to you about, um," he picks up a paper and reads through it silently before looking back at me. "Lee Hyuk Jae."

I gulp nervously. Just his name makes my insides feel hot and I squeeze my legs together and try to restrain my blush. He can't have so much of an effect on me.

"I see you've been working on his case quite a lot now." He says intertwining his hands and resting his elbows on his desk. "You even went undercover." He leans in.

"I- yes. Um, I did." I reply. Jeez, Min Young, control yourself.

"May I ask you, lawyer/detective, whichever you want, whar happened in that mission of yours?" He asks, a hint of disapproval on his voice.

Does he know? He...he couldn't.

"Well, I, um, you see...He kind of found out." I say apologetically before looking down.

"Oh, you know that's not what I mean." He chuckles.

"Huh?" I look up at him.

"Oh, puh-lease Min Young-ssi! It was obvious he'd find out! I mean, this is Lee Hyuk Jae we are talking about." He laughs, receiving a confused look from me. "He is a smartass. Look, what I mean is, something happened between you two." He says after clearing his throat.

"Wh-why do you--"

"Min Young-ssi, Min Young-ssi. Please. Appart from you obvious blushing and turn on with just his name?" He says smirking.

I gasp and blush. Am I that obvious?!

"Look, but that's not what matters. No. Millions of detectives have tried to catch him. Female detectives too, by the way. And they all come back just like you: blushing with just his name. All of them. This is nothing new." He smiles.

I feel a bit weird about this. Lots of women have tried and they all end up liking him. So...I'm not the only one he's done that to. I...I'm not the only one. I clench my hands into fists before looking up at the Chief.

"The why are you calling me? If there's millions of girls, why me?" I ask clenching my jaw and shooting a cold glare at him.

"Because you Min Young-ssi, are special. You are different." He smiles. I look at him confused and he laughs. "Listen, all women saw him once. Only once. They fell for him instantly, like this." He snaps his fingers. "BUT he didn't. He never even remembered their names. He never tried to kiss them, much less take them to bed. This, Min Young-ssi," He points to me. "This right here. You. This is new. He's come to like you. Why? I don't know. But this is perfect! He likes you. He knows your name, he's tried to kiss you and take you to bed. Don't you see? You are different."

I...what? So...no, wait, what?

"So...why am I here again?" I ask.

"You cannot work anymore in this case." His smile fades and he leans back to his spot.

"W-what?" I ask schoked.

"You heard me." He says stacking his papers.

"What do you mean? I..I thought that was good. I thought--"

"It would be good Min young-ssi...except you are also attracted to him." He sighs.

"I- no. I mean, yes but--no. I mean--"

"Don't even try, Min Young-ssi. I already sent the case out, to another office, another person." He says. "I'm sorry, please don't ever see Lee Hyuk Jae again. He's dangerous."

"What? No, wait, then who got the case?" I ask.

"Oh, there's this guy, he was recommended to me. I can't remember his name but you can ask the office." He says scratching his neck. "Look, Min Young-ssi, please understand. The fact that you are attracted towards the man can cloud your judgement and--"

"With all due respect, chief Shin Dong, I know what is right and wrong. I am not tempted. I even promised--"

"Min Young-ssi, things are already done." He says rubbing his temples. "There is nothing I can do."

"Please, chief, I promised myself I'd catch that man. I...I won't be tempted, please." I look at the Chief with puppy eyes, attempting to get the case back. He sighs in defeat and I restrain from smiling.

"Look, you could ask to work together, That's all." He says. "That guy is probably already working on the case. Here, I'll give you the number for the office and you can ask to work in the case with the guy. I'm sure he's nice enough to let you assist him at least." He hands me a post it note with a number on it.

"Thank you, I promise I'll do a good job." I smile and bow after standing up."

"Yeah, sure, now off you go. I'm busy." He waves his hand at me.

Back at my office, I dial the number immediately.

Let's not waste time.

"Yes, this is Clementine's Offices, how may I help you?" A lady answers almost immediately.

Clementine's? Why does it sound so familiar?

"Uh, yes. I'm calling from S.J. Offices on behalf of Shin Dong Hee--"

"Ah, you must be lawyer/detective Man! Yes, chief Shin said you'd call. Let me redirect the call."

"Ah, yes, thank you."

Oh, he knew I wouldn't give up. Haha, chief you weirdo, you had it all planned.

"Yes, hello?" A voice interrupts me from my thoughts. A voice too familiar, it mutes me. "Hello? Who is this?"

It can't be.

"Um, yes, is this the person in charge of the case of Lee Hyuk Jae?" I ask trying to breathe. Come on, it's not him.

"Yes, this is him." He says a bit hesitant.

"Um, I'd like to work in this case with you, if you don't mind." I say slowly.

"Oh, well, um. Sure, I suppose that'd work. Just...I'll need your contact and we should probably meet, agassi." He says awkwardly.

Here goes nothing.

I take a deep breath.

"Yes, this is Man Min Young from S.J Offices." I say quickly but clearly.

The person on the other line doesn't answer for some seconds.

"...Min Young-ah...?" He finally says.

You've got to be kidding me.

"I'm afraid so....Byung Do-oppa." I reply.

Whoo! Ok! So here you have it! That was a long chapter wow. So guys I'll be back a lot this month since I'm on break~ sorry for all the hiatus, btw. But ok, let's think about it.Min Young finally accepted her attracton if not liking for Huykkie!! Boom bam boom. But now she has to work with Byung Do (and remember he wants to start again so...)! Okok that's all I can say till now. Oh and I changed the rating to R because of what will happen later on, so yeah.Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed it!
