Chapter 9

04:06, 12 May 2020

Luke's POV.

"What is she doing here?" I said glancing at Annabeth and everyone nodded.

"Luke" Bianca said and I glared.

"Luke please just hear me out" Annabeth begged and I glared. "Luke please. It's about the twins" She said and I froze. "Family Luke" she whispered and it was quiet for a few minutes, as I looked her up and down. She looked her up and down. She was thinner than I remembered, and seemed much older than 25. The bags under her eyes were noticeable, and her grey eyes glistened with tears.

"Okay" I said and she shot me a small smile.

"I know you all hate me for what you think I did to Percy, but I was talking to Bianca and we realized something was up" she said and I glanced at Zoë who shrugged.

"Silena, can you ask Annabeth what she remembers about August 2nd, the day after the giant war?" Bianca said and I felt my eyebrows scrunch at the date. That was the day Percy joined the army. Silena nodded and turned to Annabeth.

"What do you remember about the day after The Giant War, August 2nd" she said, charmspeak rolling off her tongue. Annabeth sat up straighter and words started to tumble out.

"I woke up in the Poseidon Cabin, next to Percy. I threw up in his bathroom, and he held my hair back. We went to breakfast and I sat with Percy, and we ate Blue pancakes" she said and I waited for the rest of the story.

"That's all" she said and my mouth dropped open.

"But that's the day you cheated on Percy" Micheal said from across the fire. We all nodded and Bianca smiled.

"She doesn't remember. In fact, no one in the camp remembers anything. They call it 'the forgotten day'" she said and I gaped for a minute.

"We all assumed Percy put something in the food so he could leave for some unknown reason" she said and my mouth dropped.

"Then who did it?" Ethan asked and Annabeth shrugged.

"We don't know" she whispered and my heart broke for her.

"Do you love him?" Silena asked and she nodded.

"So much. I looked everywhere for him. And then... I found out I was pregnant with them. And it felt like I was losing him all over again" she said and we all looked around at each other.

"When Percy first joined... he locked himself in his room. Wouldn't talk, wouldn't eat. He lost himself" I whispered and her face drooped.

"You can't tell him" she whispered and I shot her a look.

"Why not?" Beckendorf asked and she seemed to hesitate.

"Whoever did it is still out there. And now there's the twins, and as much as I love Percy, I won't put them at risk" she said and a tear dripped down her cheek.

"He needs to stay wherever he is" she said, sounding so broken it made me wince.

"I've survived 8 years, I can go a little longer" she said and I started to tap my foot.

"But can he?" I heard Silena ask and we exchanged a glance.

"We just need to make it a little longer" she whispered and I nodded.

"Okay" I said and she stood up, grabbing her baseball cap.

"I gotta get back to Poseidon cabin" she whispered and I hesitated.

"Annabeth, wait" I said and she turned to me. I ran over to her and wrapped my arms around her, and after a few seconds, she hugged me back.

"I'm sorry Luke. I could have done something to save you" she started to sab and I patted her head.

"No you couldn't. He was already in my mind" I said and she pulled away, wiping the tears off her cheeks.

"I'll see you all at breakfast" she whispered, slipping her cap on and disappearing into the night.

Percy let out a sob from his tent and I looked around.

"I'll get it" I whispered and headed over to the tent, unzipping it quietly.

"Hey Perce" I whispered and he sat up. He was shirtless, revealing scars littered all over his arms and chest, and tear stained cheeks.

"Hey Luke" he croaked and I sat down next to his bed.

"You ok?" I asked and he hesitated.

"I'm-" he started but his voice cracked and he just ended up shrugging. "When does it get better Luke?" He croaked and I winced. "When can I just forget about her and move on?" he asked and I smoothed his hair out.

"I don't know Percy. But we're all here for you" I said and he looked away.

"You shouldn't be. It's my fault you died. You should hate me" he muttered and I shot him a look.

"Perce..." I started but he turned away from me.

"Is Silena up? I want her to knock me out." he said cooly and I nodded.

"I'll go get her" I said standing up and walking to the door. I hesitated and turned to him quickly.

"Perce none of us blame you. You tried, and that's what counts" I said and he sat up, revealing a few tears dripping down his cheeks.

"You may not blame me, but i'm always going to blame myself" He whispered and layed back down, curling into myself. I gave him one final glance and unzipped the tent, gesturing for Silena to go in.

"was he doing it again?" Zoë asked and I nodded.

"C'mon let's go watch the twins" I said, taking her hand into mine. She gave me a small smile and walked over to the tent.

"Okay, so today we're just going to do it by cabin, so will all the even cabins go to archery, and all the odd cabins go to mixed weapons?" I said and everyone seemed to nod around me.

"Where's Riptide?" a small girl asked from the Demeter cabin and I gave her a kind smile.

"He's busy today. He'll be back tomorrow to teach though" I said kindly and the girl smiled.

"Now just a warning, Bianca got obsessed with Disney movies a while back, so if she starts singing 'I'll make a man out of you' just whack her on the head" and Bianca shot me a glare.

"And please stay away from our tent site" I finished and a few murmur's rang out. I glanced at Zoë who shot me a smile and sat back down.

"Well I think we're good," I said and she gave me a look.

"Don't jinx this" she said and I grinned at her.
