Chapter 28

Everyone has returned to the tent and there are snack and appetizers laid out on one big table. "You want something to eat?" I ask Lando as we walk into the tent. "Yes please. I'll get us something to drink." He says and kisses my cheek before moving off. "I grab a plate and place some relatively healthy things on the plate, trying to stick with our diet, since it's the middle of the season.

"Hannah! So great to see you again." I hear a familiar voice that makes me freeze up. Not him. "What are you doing here?" I ask spinning around to face him. "I wanted to see you." Matthew said. "So you came to my fathers funeral? You're sick. You really are still a jerk. After all these years?" I say and grab a few more things off the table for Lando and I, hoping that Matthew will get the hint and walk away. Clearly not. "So what have you been up to." He questions. "Like you really care." I say and walk off towards Lando who was walking towards me. "My enemy from karting is here. Beware, he is a total asshole." I say to Lando who begins to look angry. "Where." He says, getting all jealous and protective. "If he becomes a bother I'll let you know. But please don't start a fight here. I'm asking nicely. Please, love." I say. He locks eyes with me and nods his head and we sit down at the nearest table. I place the plate between us and we eat and talk about random things.

I feel someone sit down at the chair next to me. I turn to see Matthew again. "Can you please leave me alone. I'm not in the mood to deal with you right now." I say to him. "Ooh we got confidence now, baby? Is it because your little boyfriend is here." He teases. "Hey man. She asked you to leave." Lando say. I can tell he is trying to stay calm. "I wasn't talking to you dickhead. Was I? I was talking to the hot piece of ass in front of me." Matthew says in return. "Leave." I repeat again and he laughs. "Like I'm going to listen to you. I want to know what's going on you your life. What's new?" Matthew says. "Leave now." Lando says through gritted teeth. "Make me, boy." Matthew retorts. Lando stands up and Matthew does the same. Matthew throws a punch at Lando and it hits him square in the cheek. Lando swings back to retaliate before I stand up.

"Hey! Can you both stop. Now!" I yell standing between them. Everyone is silent, watching this scene unfold. "I think you need to leave." I say to Matthew. "Yes. I think that's a great idea." James says. Yanking him out the tent. Lando goes to yell something after him. "You yell anything at him and I will not talk to you for a month." I say sternly, looking at him in his eyes so he knows I'm serious and he closes his mouth very quickly. "Sorry about that every one. Please, as you were." I say and slowly everyone continues to chat. "What's the story with him?" Lando asks. "It's a long one." I say as I walk out the tent. "Wait Hannah!" Lando yells after me.

I walk away in the other direction I saw Matthew and James walk. "Hannah I'm sorry!" Lando yelled after me, trying to catch up as I walk towards the swinging bench the overlooks the vineyards at the edge of the garden. I sit down, ignoring Lando calling after me. More tears fall as I look over the vineyards. I feel Lando sitting down next to me. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make a scene." He says, placing a hand on my thigh. I continue to ignore him.  Anger and disappointment running through my veins. "I can't believe you." I say softly as the tears continue. "At my fathers funeral." I say. "Hey, he was annoying you and calling us names. I had to do something." He says defensively. "Yeah I guess your right. I'm still upset but thank you. I love you." I say and kiss his cheek. He winced and I remember that's where he was punched. "Oh babe, I'm sorry. I completely forgot. Come, let's get some ice." I say getting up but Lando pulls me back down, sitting me on his lap, wrapping his arms around my torso.

"It's fine. You kissing it made it feel way better than any ice could ever do." He says resting his head on my shoulder. "Thank you." I say and he moved his head to look at me. "For?" He asks confused. "Everything. Being here to support me today, being there for me when I have bad days and bad races. For being the most amazing man I have ever met even though we haven't been together for a while but we click. I have never felt this way about anyone. I love you." I say moving sideways to look at him.

He places his forehead against mine. Looking deep into my eyes. "No, thank you. You are so amazing, gorgeous and funny. I have never met someone so right for me. You are always there for me. I have no idea how I managed to live without you. I know what you mean about us being together for a short while but I make me feel things I didn't even know were possible. How amazing it is to have someone that travels everywhere with me. Even though we are on different teams how we just work so well together. I love you." He says, his sweet words making me tear up a little. "Say it again." He says softly. "I love you. Lando Norris. I love you with all my heart." I say back, closing the gap between our lips.

I climb into bed and grab my book as I hear the shower next door still running. After I manage to finish a chapter the bed dips next to me and I put the book back down. Moving so I face Lando. "Thank you for today. You made it special, excluding the fight." I say to him. "I'm really sorry but the way he was talking to you was not ok. It made me so mad knowing and hearing that someone was disrespecting my princess." He says which makes me blush, he pushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear before kissing my forehead. Wrapping his arms tightly around me, pulling me closer as be both fall asleep.
