Chapter 4: The Last School Prom

Prom is finally here. My first actual prom and also my last. I've been to prom before but I didn't have a date so I went with the girls and we did have fun. I was in my room doing my makeup and hair when my girls walked in. "Hey, are you almost ready ?", asked Hailey, coming into the bathroom where I was. "No, not yet. I've got to finish my makeup and do my hair then put on my dress.", I say applying eyeliner. "Well, I can help with the makeup and Ariana can go get the dress.", says Willow taking the eyeliner out of my hand.

"Yeah and we should hurry. Prom starts in 2 hours and only two of us are ready.", says Ariana taking my new prom dress out of the plastic. "It's because I'm not wearing a dress. That's why I'm already ready.", says Willow smiling. "Yeah and I just rushed because I heard they were having ribs like last time.", says Hailey. "You fat ass !", I laugh. "What ? A bitch has to eat.", says Hailey holding her hands up in surrender.

I got up from my chair and grabbed the dress from Ari. I was half naked. I took off the shorts I was wearing and put it on. It fit perfectly. It felt really comfortable too. Willow zipped it up in the back. I looked beautiful.

"Wow, you look hot !", says Hailey spinning me around. "She's right ! Look at how your boobs poke up !", says Ariana pushing my boobs up. "It's just the push up bra it's not a big deal.", I say swatting Ariana away from my boobs. "Not a big deal huh ? I wonder what Shawn will say !", says Willow smirking. "He's not gonna say anything. He's just going to be himself. There was a knock at the door. I sat back down in my chair and started to apply some lipstick on my lips. Willow opened the door and my brother Jake walked in. He looked around at all of us.

"Women !", he said with a smile. "What do you want dork ?", I ask playfully rolling my eyes. "Dad said that all of your dates are here and you should hurry cause you got an hour left to get ready." "Tell him we'll be right down." My brother was heading towards the door. He then stopped and started looking at Hailey. He has a major crush on her even though he knows he has no chance. He began to smile.

"Hey Hailey !", he says with a red face. "Hi Jake.", say Hailey smiling at his adorableness. "You look really good and I mean really good.", he says as his eyes traveled all around her body. "Thanks, now get out !"

Hailey pushed him out the room. We all laughed. A few minutes later me and Ari were ready. We called Jake back upstairs for a minute.

"Yeah, what's up ?", he said peaking his head through the door. "Can you go downstairs and give us an introduction please ?", I ask with a smile. "What ? No !", he says with a frown. "Come on, Jake.", says Willow. "No cause it's not necessary.", he says. I look over at Hailey and wink. She rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. "Hey Jake.", she said. "Yeah ?", he says as his eyes lit up. "If you do it, I'll give you a kiss on the cheek."

"Deal !"

Jake ran back downstairs. We laughed so hard. Then we got ready to be called. "Okay dudes, you ready to see your lovely dates ? First up, Willow !" Willow just walked downstairs with no problem. She started to spin and then laughed. Her date was Khalil, who asked Jaden to go with her.

"Why aren't you wearing a dress ?", asked Khalil. "I like dresses just not that much. Is that a problem ?", asked Willow. She was shy, which is something we don't see everyday. "No, not a problem at all. I dig your outfit though.", he says grabbing her hand. "Thanks.", she says blushing. Those two walked outside and got in the limo that Hailey's parents rented for us this night. Then, Jake called Hailey's name.

"Next the lovely, wonderful, beautiful, extr-" "Just get on with it !", screamed Hailey. "Sorry.......Hailey !", announced Jake. Hailey steeped down with her two piece outfit on. She was going with Za. They talk but it hasn't gotten serious yet. They walked off to the limo. Jake then called Ariana's name. She walked down and did a little princess spin. You could tell she was feeling herself. Jaden had a giant smile on his face.

They walked out to the car. Now last but not least it was my turn. I was a bit nervous. Shawn is down there waiting for me. Jake then called my name. "And now it's time for my wonderfully beautiful sister. Y/N !" I walked downstairs. I saw Shawn and his eyes were on me. So was my dad.

"Wow, just wow ! You look so good. I don't know why I haven't notice you before.", he said. That kind of hurt a bit. But tonight is a good night so I'm not going to let it ruin my day. We started to walk towards the door. Before I could go out my dad grabbed my arm. He embraced me in a big hug. I hugged him back. "Be safe. I love you ok. Have fun and stay out of trouble.", he said kissing my forehead. "I will dad. I promise. I walked out the door and into the car. Before we could pull off Jake ran to the car. We let down the window

"Hailey, you owe me something.", he said.

Jake put his head in the car and Hailey kissed his cheek. He began to jump around. Then, we left and drove to the school for prom. The ride was amazing. There was a bottle of Champagne and crackers. Weird right ? I didn't eat much of it because I know the school has wings. But everyone else ate and drunk some of it. A few minutes later, we arrived at the school. We walked in and saw Tommy, the school nerd, at the door.

We gave him our names and he wrote it on a piece of paper. Then, he gave it to a girl that was standing by the entrance with a microphone. She then began announcing us. We all walked in one by one with our dates. It seemed that when it was me and Shawn's turn, all eyes were on us. We walked in and every head in the room was turned to us. We even had a spotlight on us. We began to walk arm and arm.

I noticed Jason and Selena came together. We passed by them and I avoided eye contact with Jason. I knew he was looking at me and hoping I would look at him, but I just couldn't. I meant every word I said. I was just looking out for him. Selena began to roll her eyes but honestly I don't care about her. Tonight was all about me, Shawn, and my friends. After that, all of us sat at our table together. We talked, laughed, joked around, typical teenage stuff. Then, Jason and Selena walked over to us.

"Wassup guys.", said Jason. "Dude, I thought you weren't coming.", said Khalil. "He changed his mind.", said Selena answering for him making me and the girls roll our eyes. "Shawn, I'm going to get some punch. You want some ?", I whisper to him. "Yes, please.", he says with a smile. I didn't want to be around them two. I wanted to avoid them at every cost. I went to the food table and grabbed two cups. I set them down and attempt to pour punch in the cups. Then, I was startled. Someone was behind me. It was Jason.

"Y/n", he says. "What now ?", I say super annoyed. "I just wanted to say I'm s-", he says but I cut him off. "Please, Jason, I'm trying to have fun, considering this is my first and last prom. I don't want to talk about Hailey's party.", I say. "Y/n please, just hear me out.", he says "Fine. You have three minutes.", I say crossing my arms. "Y/n, when I saw you again for the first time with Jaden, I knew that I missed you. I thought I would never see you again. And I don't know, with Selena she makes me happy too. But what you said at Hailey's party had me thinking.", he said grabbing my hands.

"I don't know if it's true or not but all I know is that I want to get close with you again. I wanna be friends. Like old times when we all use to cause trouble. Me and my boys and you and your girls. Please Y/n.", he said. I could tell he was serious. "I don't know Jason. Maybe. I'll think about it.", I tell him touching his shoulder. "Ok. I'm glad I got to talk to you again though.", he says giving me a small smile. "Me too, Jason."

I walked back to the table with me and Shawn's drinks. I sat down and gave him his. Selena was still at the table with her arms around Khalil. Khalil looked confused. He had face that was like "why is she doing this?". I could tell Willow was getting mad too. Her fist were in a ball and she was wiggling her legs. That's what she does when she's mad. Then, Willow just snapped.

"Selena, what the hell is up with you !?", she yelled angrily. "What do you mean ?", she asked Willow innocently. I chuckled to myself. Selena just doesn't know what she got herself into. "You have your hands all over my date when your hands should be on yours ! Where is he by the way ? I bet he wouldn't like what he sees. Maybe he would. It's not like you're not already using him for his money."

"Oh my gosh, you're just jealous !", says Selena with a smirk. Ariana choked on her drink and me and Hailey laughed. "Bitch please, I'm not the one that has to bribe my significant other for money. How about this, I'll give you to the count of three to get away from Khalil. If you're not gone, I'm kicking your ass."

"Wow, I'm not scared of you.", said Selena laughing. "One.", counted Willow. "You should be", said Ariana. "2.", counted Willow. "You have to be the stupidest girl we know.", laughs Hailey. "Three !", said Willow. Willow got up from her chair. She looked Selena dead in her eyes and punched her in the face. Selena was shocked because of what just happened. She touched her nose and saw blood. Selena began to freak out. For me, this was the funniest shit ever.

"Ugh, you're gonna pay for this !", she says holding her nose. "I doubt it, bitch.", said Willow sipping her punch. "Willow that was insane !", I say with a smile on my face. "Well, she was asking for it.", said Willow with a shrug. "You know what that meant right ?", asked Hailey. "You just fought over Khalil.", said Za with a laugh. "Oh god that's right. Willow you've never fought over a boy before !", said Jaden hugging his sister.

"Wait what ? I did ?!", said a clueless Willow. "Well, that was nice of you.", said Khalil. He kissed her cheek and she blushed. "You're welcome, I guess.", she said. Jason walked up to the table. He was pointing behind him. "Uhh, why is Selena bleeding ?", he asked. "She was flirting with Khalil so Willow punched her in the face.", I say while sipping my drink. "Was Selena messing around with you Khalil ?", Jason asked.

"Yea, she's always messing with me, and if it isn't me, she's messing with Za. But my Girl fought for me.", says Khalil wrapping his arm around Willow. "Wow, that's good to know.", says Jason upset. "Come on Jason. Sit down with us and stop worrying about her. Have fun with your old friends.", I say trying to make him happy.

"Yeah, Y/n's right. We haven't been together like this since the beginning of high school.", said Za. "Fine. I guess it wouldn't hurt." Jason sat on the other side of me. I don't know why but I kind of felt happy because he was so close to me. He was kind of scooting closer. I could see him moving his chair. Then, the DJ began to play "First Dance" by my favorite singer Justin Bieber. (Play the song and imagine this happening.) When I tell you I was happy I literally almost jumped in Shawn's arms. I had to dance to this song.

We all got up and went to the dance floor. I was so happy to be sharing this moment with Shawn. It was magical. I put my arms around his neck. He put his arms around my waist. We began to move to the music. While the music played I looked around and saw all my friends dancing together. It feels like old times. It's still not the same though. I turned back to Shawn who's eyes were all on me. I laid my head on his chest as the song continued. Darn you Justin. Making these wonderful songs for wonderful moments. The song began to end.

🎶"It only happens once, once in a lifetime."🎶

Everyone clapped and cheered. Shawn hugged me tight. As we were still hugging Jason and Selena just bumped into us.

"Oh sorry. Didn't anyone tell you that this is a no loser zone.", she said causing Jason to roll his eyes. "Actually, this is a no gold digger zone. Also the no broke bitches zone, and the no whore zone.", I say. I could've went on forever. "Wow. This isn't over bitch.", she says in the coldest voice ever. "Actually it is.", I say.

"Ugh ! Let's go Jason.", she says. She begins to walk away but Jason just stands there. He's lost for words. "Jason !", called Selena. Jason turned around and followed her while looking back at me. I was looking at him too. I think he wanted to say something but couldn't. I was in a trance. I was still hand and hand with Shawn then he snapped his fingers to bring me back to reality. "Y/n !", said Shawn getting my attention. "Huh ? Oh sorry.", I say.

"Were you looking at Jason ?", he asked. "No. Well, yeah. We use to be old friends until he dropped out and joined a gang.", I say remembering the old days. "Did you like.....ever have feelings for each other ?", he asked nervously. "To be honest, yes. At some point of time we did.", I say being honest. He was going to know sooner or later. "Oh, well do you still like him ?"

"I mean it's been years so......no I don't.", I quickly say. "I feel like you're lying to me.", he said angrily. Shawn began to tighten his grip. Then, he twisted my hand. He was hurting me. "Shawn, please stop. You're hurting my hand !", I say trying to get out of his grip. "Do you like him or not !?", he says through gritted teeth. "I don't like him Shawn, I swear !"

Shawn let go of my hand. I looked at him with fear in my eyes. He didn't have no expression on his face. I ran to the bathroom. I passed by all of my friends with tears in my eyes. I got in a stall and began to cry. I looked at my hand and noticed a bruise. Why would Shawn hurt me like that ? He probably didn't mean it. Next thing you know, Hailey and the girls walked in. "Y/n ?", said Hailey. "What happened honey ?", asked Ariana. "Nothing....just go back and have fun with your dates." "Hell no. Come out. We know you're crying.", said Willow. I slowly opened the stall and walked out. I put my hand behind my back. I didn't want them to see it.

"Why are you crying ?", asked Willow. I wiped my nose and sniffled. "It's nothing.", I say. "Girl, we've been your friends since middle school, don't try to pull that on us.", said Hailey. "What's wrong Y/n ?", asked Ariana so nicely. I took my hand from behind my back. I showed them the bruise. They gasped at the sight of the bruise. "Who the hell did that ?", asked Hailey shocked "Y/n, why didn't you come tell us ?", asked Ariana. "Do I need to kick someone's ass !?", asked a pumped and angry Willow.

"No guys, we don't need to do anything. I don't think he meant to do it.", I say wiping my nose again. "He ? Who's the he ?", asked Ariana. "I thought Selena had something to do with that bruise.", said Hailey. "Tell us who it was.", demanded Willow. "Ok, but you guys have to promise not to say anything or do anything about it.", I say. Hailey and Ariana both promised. Willow stayed silent "Willow !"

"Fine, I promise.", she says. "Not to let them get away with this.", she says finishing it off. "Willow !", I say. She laughs. "Just kidding, I promise.", she says. "Ok, it was Shawn.", I say closing my eyes. "SHAWN !?", they all yelled in disbelief. "But why ?", asked Hailey. "Well, after Jason and Selena stopped bothering us, me and Jason was just looking at each other for a while and I guess Shawn caught it.", I say fiddling with my fingers.

"When he asked me did I still like Jason. I stuttered and I said no. Then, he got angry and began to squeeze and twist my hand. And I told him I didn't like Jason. Then, he let go.", I say looking at the girls. "God, you think you know a guy.", said Willow. "You're gonna be ducking and dodging this dude for the rest of the night.", said Ariana. "I guess I can do that.", I say shrugging my shoulders. "We're not about to let this dude ruin your first and last prom."

We all left out the bathroom. The girls were actually right. I actually had fun without a date. We danced, ate food, and joked around some more. Then they played "Thinking out loud" by Ed Sheeran. All the girls and their dates went back on the dance floor and began to dance again. I sat at the table by myself. Then, I noticed Shawn was walking towards me. I got up and began to walk in the crowd. Shawn was following. Then, I bumped into Jason.

"I'm sorry, Jason.", I say rubbing my head. "Y/n, who are you running from ?", he asked concerned. "How do you know I'm running from someone ?"

"You and I ran from the police together. That same look you had on your face then, is on your face now. Now, tell me, who are you running from ?"

I hesitated. I'm talking to my old crush. I don't want to tell him that Shawn is the person I'm running from but I know I also don't have a choice. Jason always gets his way. "Shawn.", I say quickly. "Your date ? But why ?", he asked confused. "Right after you and Selena left, Shawn asked me did I still have feelings for you because I told him we use to be sweethearts. He squeezed my wrist and twisted it.", I say. "Are you ok ?"

"I am but not my hand." I showed Jason my hand. He was speechless. I could tell he was getting angry too. Then Jason grabbed my other hand and began to drag me out into the hallway. "Do you need to go home ?", he asked me. "Yes, please." Jason walked me out to his car. He opened my door. I got in and he closed the door. He got in on the other side and began to drive me home. I looked out the window. Then, Jason put my favorite song on the radio. I looked at Jason. He smiled and looked back ahead. I sang the whole song to my house. Jason parked in the front of my house. It was time for me to get out and go inside.

"Thank you again, Jason.", I say. "No problem. I would do this for you even if we weren't on good terms. And if that Shawn guy hurts you again, make sure you tell me. I'll handle him.", he says. I chuckle at how protective he is. I guess some things about him haven't changed. "That won't be necessary.", I say. "I don't think he meant to hurt me.", I say. Jason shakes his head and looks down at the steering wheel. "I better get going.", I say opening the car door. "Yeah, you should or your dad will freak out that you're with me."

"Nah, he likes you now. Because you're doing better.", I say giving Jason a small smile.

There was an awkward silence. I looked at Jason and he looked at me. We smiled at each other and laughed. I opened my door to go but I stopped. I turned to Jason and kissed his cheek. I smiled and so did he. "Thank you.", I say to him. "No problem, Shawty.", he says blushing. "You still have my number right ?", I ask him. "Yeah I do, why ?", he asked. "Because you haven't been calling or texting me like you said you would. Don't forget this time.", I say winking at him.

I got out of the car. I walked up to the door. I grabbed my phone and noticed it was 11:45. I looked back at Jason. I waved, smiled, then I winked. He waved back. I went inside my house. My dad and brother were fast asleep so I just went up to my room. I went in my room and took off my prom dress. I walked in the bathroom and put my phone on the counter. I took my hair down and started to comb it. My phone then vibrated.

I had a text. It was from Jason. It read "Hey Shawty ;)". I texted him back and said "Hey Mccan <3". After that, I put my hair in a messy bun. I turned off the lights and climbed in bed. I texted all my friends and told them what happened. Me and Jason texted for a while then I began to get sleepy. I told him goodnight and put my phone on my nightstand. I smiled in my sleep. I felt as if nothing could go wrong.•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Hey guys!! I would've updated this story yesterday but I wasn't around wifi to do so. Love you guys!! 💖😁
