Chapter 9 (D2)

It was now a few more days till the royal cotillion, where Mal will become a lady of the court. It was announced a moth in advance. Mal was stressed, Misty would help her as much as she could, Ben didn't help as much, which was a jerk move, but you know.

Right now Mal was in front of the statue of Ben and Misty's father surrounded by press who were asking a multitude of questions. Ben and Misty had just come from a meeting involving the gift Ben had for Mal. Ben was eating a apple as the siblings walked to Mal and the press.

As they got closer they hear the reporters ask her questions. "Is your mother still a lizard?" The reporter asked. Misty and Ben quickened their pace as they get to the reporters. Misty clears her throat as they push through the reporters to reach Mal. "Okay, all right. Excuse us." Ben and Misty get through the reporters and stand on either side of Mal. Ben wrapped a arm around Mal's waist and she wraps a arm around his. Misty turns to the reporter who asked the question about Mal's mom. "Uh, we will let you know if and when that particular situation changes."

Another reporter asks Misty, "Did you ever think your brother would be with a villain kid?" and the same time a different asks Ben, "Did you ever think you'd be with a villain kid?" Ben and Misty chuckle and look at each other then back at the reporters, "We're done here." They say at the same time.

Mal and Ben looked at each other and Misty looked at her nails as Fairy Godmother comes between the three and the reporters. "Okay. This is still a school, so if you're here, you're either skipping or trespassing." Fairy Godmother says to the reporters, they try to ask more questions but she shushes them as they begin to walk away.

"Thank you" Mal, Ben and Misty say. Fairy Godmother turns to the three of them. "Mal, Ben, Misty." They all smile a little at Fairy Godmother, "Fairy Godmother" They all say. Mal sighs and Ben chuckled. "Don't pay any attention to them." Ben says looking down at Mal. "Well, that's a lot easier said than done, right?" Sh says chuckling. "I know, I know. You know, maybe we should do something. We should go somewhere. Get away." He says proposing a idea. "Yeah." Mal agrees. Misty checks her watch, and she looks at Ben, "Ben, you have a council meeting about cotillion, like now. You are very late." Misty says. Ben's eyes widened and he looked at his watch the looks back at Mal, "She's right I am so late. We'll do it sometime, uh." as he is talking Evie walks up to them.

Ben leans in to kiss Mal's cheek but can't because Mal gets pulled away by Evie, "If we don't do a fitting for your gown right this minute, you'll be dancing in your bath robe, okay?" She says, she then gives a small hi to Ben. She then sees Misty and she smiles and she grabs her wrist with her other hand. "Come on you two lets go." Evie says dragging the two girls away from the front of the school. "Wait? Why me?" Misty asks "Because after I fit Mal I need to fit you into your dress, and you also have a good eye for designing so I might need help." Evie says, Misty sighs but agrees.

The three girls were in Mal and Evie's dorm, Misty was reading a book and sitting on Mal's bed, while Mal was getting her dress fitted for cotillion. Mal gasps, "Okay Evie I cannot breath." Misty snorts and Mal gives her a look. Misty sticks her tongue out at her jokingly, Mal does it back and they both smile at each other. "Well, you can breathe after Cotillion." Evie says. "I sincerely doubt that. I have at least 20 more events directly behind it. And I can't even remember a single on of them is." Misty looks at Mal with a sympathetic look on her face.

She was right about Mal being the most stress. Mal may act like everything is going fine but Misty can read her like a book. Misty has helped as much as she could but sometimes Misty just had to be a comfort person for Mal.

Evie admires the dress, "Impeccable." Mal then looks at her old purple and green jacket. "Evie? Do you ever think about what we'd be doing if we were back  on the Isle right row?" She asks, Misty looks at her, she knew Mal needed a break, she has told her many times that she needed to but she refused. Evie chuckles while taking more measurements of Mal's dress. "That's funny."

Soon something started to play on the tv. Evie looks at the tv, "Ah, Look who's on tv. Misty Look." Evie says helping Mal off the platform to get closer to the tv. Misty puts a bookmark in her book as she gets up from the bed and walks over to the two. "As the royal couple continues their tour of the kingdom, they dined with Aladdin and Jasmine." The reporter says as Mal goes and sits on the foot of Evie's bed, Misty turns and moves to sit next to Mal. Mal places her head on Misty's shoulder. "Six months ago, no one thought Prince Ben and his girlfriend from the wrong side of the bridge would last." Misty is taken aback by the comment the reporter made, "Yeah, no kidding." Mal says, looking at the tv.

"Mal must be counting the days until the Royal Cotillion..." Mal looks down at Ben's ring that Ben gave her six months ago, she then gasps she stands up and moves to the side of the bed. "...when she will officially become a Lady of the Court." Evie looks at her clipboard, "Misty can you look at this in I need your opinion on something." Misty stands up and goes to Evie and looks at her clipboard. As the tv continues and Misty and Evie were distracted, Mal grabs her spell book and flips through the pages. Misty and Evie turn to look at Mal, She stops on a page and reads the spell, "Read if fast at lighting speed Remember everything I need."

She closes her spell book and grabs the book called 'The Lady's Manners' and does a little hand motion as she puts the spell on the book. Misty knows that book all to well, she had to read it before she became queen, she saw the book as useless, she didn't know why it was still used but she wasn't in charge of that, so she had no idea. Mal opens the book and drags her finger down the page as she speed reads the book. Evie turns to face Mal with her hands on her hips. Misty goes back to sitting on Mal's bed and reading her book.

"I know Mal's secrets of fitting in and Ben wouldn't like it one bit. Haven't you guys had enough secrets between the two of you already?" Evie asks leaning on the bed post. "Evie you remember what I was like before I started using my spell book. I mean it was a complete disaster." Mal says trying to convince Evie that it was fine. "Well, personally, as your best friend, and I'm sure Misty can agree, I strongly believe that this spell book...It belongs in the museum along with my mirror." Mal pouts and looks at Misty, "M?" Misty looks at the two.

"Do you want my honest opinion?" Misty asks not looking away from her book. Mal nods, Misty sighs and sticks a bookmark in it and sets it on her lap. She face the two, "Im agreeing with Mal." Misty says placing her hands on the bed. Mal smiles and looks at Evie, "See! Even M agrees with me." Mal says proving her point further.

"Let me explain, and I gave this same lecture to Ben. Mal and all of you guys are still new to things, no matter if you think so or not. And Mal is basically being thrown into something she isn't familiar with. Just six months ago she turned her mother into a lizard!" Misty says, she then looks at the lizard (Maleficent) who is in her enclosure. "No offense." She says as the lizard hisses at her. "Ok I'm sorry. Anyway, Mal needs to get more comfortable with this still new environment, and because she has been basically thrown into all of this Cotillion crap, Mal feels like she has to fit in she she is changing herself to meet that. She is stressed because she has had no room to breath, and of the freaking cameras shoved in her face 24/7. So adapting and all of this pilled on is making her stressed. So who cares if she uses her spell book to help her read faster or change her hair to blonde, so what! Let her adapt her own way, as long as she doesn't go to crazy I'm ok with it." Misty says

Both of the girls look at her, then Evie looks at Mal, "But my point still stands." She says with the spell book in her hands. Mal looks at her with a pout. "Don't give me the face. put the pout away. You know I'm right." Mal sighs, "You don't ever miss running wild and just breaking all the rules?" She asks tilting her head at Evie "Like stealing and lying and fighting?" Mal smiles, "Yeah" "No" "What?" Evie goes over to Mal and lifts her and brings her over to her table "Why would we? Come here. Look at where we are. We're in Auradon. And we're Auradon girls now." She says as the two look at the TV again and Misty went back to her book.

"Since Mal revealed her love of strawberries, she has received hundreds of cartons from her admirers." At that Evie squeals a little as she hugged Mal. Mal had her shoulders slumped and had a defeated expression on her face. "See this is the land of opportunity. We can be whatever we want to be here." Mal looks down with a sad expression. "So please, let's just leave the past in the past, okay?" They look at each other and Evie picks up one of the shoes. "Besides...I mean, look at these shoes. Look at them." Mal gives her a thin smile "Severe." Evie chuckled.

"Okay, you can change. Misty you are up next, and let me just say I think this is going to look beautiful on you." Evie says as Mal grabbed her dress she was wearing before and changed in the bathroom. Misty looked up and sighed, "Evie, how many times do I have to tell you, I appreciate you so much, but you don't have to make a dress for me, I have a lot I could have chosen from." She says closing her book and standing up and going to Evie. "And how many times do I have to tell you, I'm making you a dress and you can't say anything about it. Besides, you are the queen of Auradon, you deserve a beautiful dress. Now go put this on." Evie says handing her a gold ballgown. Misty sighs, and walks to the bathroom, Mal walks out and gives the dress to Evie.

Misty puts on the dress and walks out of the bathroom and stands on the platform Evie had. They both turn around and gasp, "Now that dress is fit for a queen. You look wonderful. Let me see if I need to make any adjustments." Evie said grabbing her soft tape measure and starts taking measurements. "It reminds me of the dress my mom wore when she first danced with my dad, when he was in his beast form." Evie smiles, "I took some inspiration form that, but I also added some parts of you in there." Misty smiles.

Mal goes over to her bed and she sees the book Misty was reading she smiles and chuckles. "Really, M, this book again you've read it so many times." Misty laughs a bit, "Its my favorite story." Evie looks up at Misty, "What story?" Misty smiles, "Peter Pan, my mom gave me the book when I was a kid, the cover got old so my friend, Rebeca rebounded it, the same girl that made your sketch book Evie." Evie nods, "I wouldn't take you for the girl who would like that story." Misty shrugged, "I mean who would, It has a far off place called Neverland, daring sword fights, magical pixie dust, and pirates. What more could you ask for?" Misty says excitedly.

Mal and Evie laugh, "Sometimes I wish I could go on a adventure like that." Misty says dreamily. Mal sits on her bed and looks at the olive green cover. "Really, Don't you like being queen?" Mal asks. Misty looks at her, "Of course I do, It's just...It can be too much sometimes. Sometimes, I wonder and want to fly off with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell to Neverland, to see the sights, do whatever they do in Neverland. Maybe get captured by Captain Hook and his Pirate crew on the way, get saved and go home. Wake up and think it's all a dream, when you know for a fact it wasn't." Misty says hopefully.

Mal smiles that she isn't the only one who feels in a similar place like her. "Well, let's hope you don't get captured by Captain Hook and his crew. That would not be fun." Evie said. All three laughed, "M, how come you never told us how much you love that story?" Mal asks putting down the book. Misty shrugged, "You never asked."  Misty sighed and thinking about everything, wondering what would it be like going outside of Auradon on a adventure, Neverland maybe. Well in the meantime she will have to remember.

Second star to the right, and straight on till morning

It is now later I. The day and Misty is walking with Ben to their next classes. The siblings see Mal talking to Evie, Lonnie and Jane. Ben goes up to Mal and stands behind her. "Hi Mal" Ben says smiling. The three girls say hi to Ben. Mal gives them a look.

Jane takes Ben off to the side and Misty turns to Mal noticing the stressed look on her face. Misty goes over to her and wraps arm around her shoulders.

"Hey, are you ok? You look stressed." Misty asks. Mal gives her a fake smile and nods, "Yeah, of course I am." She says trying to be convincing. Misty gives her a look. "Mal, I can read you better than you read your spell book. Tell me what's going on. I'm here for you, whatever is going on I want to help." Misty says holding her hands.

Mal shrugged, "Thank you but I'm ok, I swear. I got to get to class, bye M" Ma says walking off. Misty sighs. She knew something was wrong she just didn't want to push Mal to share anything.
