Chapter 5

This is the outfit that Misty will have for the first half of the chapter

It was a few weeks later and it was the week of Family Day! Family Day is where all of the parents and grandparents of the kids at Auradon Prep go and spend a day together. Well, Family Day might look different for the VK's due to the...situation involving their parents. Fairy Godmother had arranged a little treat for the VK's. The VK's were in the middle of the video call with their parents when a certain someone walked past the room.

Misty was going to her room to get rest before a council meeting about Family Day. Misty walked past the VK's classroom where she heard unfamiliar voices, she was curious. she walks backwards and stoped at the door frame. She peaked her head into the room a bit but just stood behind the doorframe so no one would see her. She knew she shouldn't be listening into a thing like this but she felt like she needed to.

"Mal!" The voice that Misty could assume was Maleficent, Mal's mother. "I m-miss you." Maleficent stammered. "You children are never to far from our thoughts." She heard a man say, Jafar, she guessed. "How long must Mommy wait to see you?" Maleficent asked, "There's a big coronation coming up. I think probably sometime after that." She heard Mal say to her mom, "Friday, 10:00 am." Mal continues. "You sure I can't see you before then? I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hands on that magic...You, you little nugget that I love so much." All of the villains chuckle nervously.

 'Magic?' Misty thought to herself. Why would Maleficent need some with magic? Then it hit Misty "The wand..." Misty whispered to herself, everything that she noticed from before, the times Mal mentioned the magic wand. Thats why she tried to spell her, to get closer to the wand during the coronation. Thats why Mal spelled....Ben. Misty rests her head against the wall behind her, but she was brought out of her thoughts when she heard someone say. "...It would make a perfect size for earmuffs." It was followed with a evil laugh. 

"He's the perfect size for a pet." Carlos says refereeing to his dog Dude. The lady, Curella Deville, gasps in surprise at what Carlos had said. "This dog loves me and I love him! And FYI, your dog is stuffed! So, give it a rest!" Carlos yells at his mom. Misty's eyes widened, she had never heard Carlos sound so angry, Misty didn't blame him, she saw how much he loved that dog. She mentally applauded him for sticking up for Dude and for himself against his mom.

"Burn!" She heard Jafar chuckle. "Why don't you go sell a toaster, you two-bit salesman!" She heard Curella say back. Then the two started to get into a argument. The sound then was cut off, someone had turned the call off. 

Misty sighed she felt bad for them, even more than before. Just based on that small conversation she could tell that their parents weren't the nicest towards them. It seemed that Maleficent used the fact that Mal and her friends were sent to Auradon to her advantage, to get the magic wand to be set free and take over Auradon. They all wanted to prove themselves, thats why Evie and Mal were talking about Mal's mom and how she said that she wanted to prove herself to her. 

Even with all of this she knew something that all of the Vk's and even Mal didn't know, Mal has goodness in her heart, they all did, she had seen it so many times, they just want to prove to their parents that they is what they expects them to be. Her thoughts are interrupted when she heard foot steps walk towards the entrance of the room. Misty quickly walked down the hall and turned the corner so the VK's didn't see her.

She sighs and looks at the clock on the wall, she notices the time and gasps. "Crap I have a council meeting!" She says rushing off to the meeting.

Today was Family Day, everyone's parents, grandparent, and family were here to celebrate this day. Before the festivities began their was a little performance for everyone.

Some of the Auradon kids including Audrey, Lonnie and Doug were in a group by the gazebo creating two lines with a small path between them, as the music started.

(Misty)

Ma chère Mademoiselle

As Misty begins singing, her and Ben go between the lines of people with a arm in front of them with a napkin laying across it.

(Misty)

It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure, that we welcome you tonight

The siblings make it to the end of the group to stop and stand in front of them as the group behind them begins to dance.

(Ben)

And now we invite you to relax 

Ben goes over to shake a man's hand off to the side and Misty does the same to a women that is also off to the side.

(Ben)

Let us pull up a chair

Ben and Misty meet in the middle again waving to people as they do so

As the dining room proudly presents

Misty and Ben wave to their parents, then they look at each other then back at the crowd

(Misty and Ben)

Your dinner

They say as Ben bows and Misty curtseys

(Chorus)

Be our guest, be our guest! 

Put our service to the test

Misty and Ben start to wave at everyone while the group danced behind them 

Tie your napkin 'round your neck, chèrie

and we'll provide the rest

(Ben)

(Chorus)

Soup du jour

hot hor d'oeuvres

Ben and Misty then throw their napkins to the side and two people catch them, them getting excited about catching the napkins.

Why, we only live to serve 

Try the gray stuff,

Ask the dishes

Misty and Ben gesture to the group behind them as the group spreads out.

(Male singer)

They can sing, sing , sing, sing

They can dance, dance, dance

The singer and the group of boys comes up to the siblings dancing

After all, miss, this is France

The group knees and stands around them

And a dinner here is never, never second best

The girls come up behind them and toss their napkins in a synchronized fashion to the side.

(Male singer and Ben)

Go on, unfold your menu

The boys, Ben and Misty start to do a little crouch and sway side to side

Go on, take a glance

and then you'll 

Ben and Misty high five the singer and stand in a line, one behind the other, turning thier faces slightly so that the audience could see their faces.

(Male singer and Ben)

Be our guest, 

The boys, Ben and Misty have a arm in front of them and a arm behind them as they shift to one side

be our guest, 

Then the other side

be our guest 

They go back to the starting position and do a little bow towards the audience

(Chorus)

Then boys disperse to the sides

At this point Mal and the other VK's have walked to a nearby balcony looking over the party

We tell jokes

The girls then stand around Ben and Misty and dance as they sing 

And it's all in perfect taste that you can bet

Come on and lift your glass

All of them lifted their left arms and places the right one behind their backs

They wave their arms

The Vk's walk into the garden area

(Ben)

If you're stressed 

The girls kneeled

(Misty and Ben)

It's fine dining we suggest

Misty and Ben made a motion to the girls that made them stand up. Ben and Misty start to walk to the front again, as the continue to dance

Mal and the group go to the snack table and Mal grabs a strawberry

They go to the grassy part of the garden and Ben and Misty holds their hands out in a pose as the song finishes and everyone does a pose. Everyone claps and cheers as Misty and Ben bow. They turn and greet a girl in a wheel chair, Ben giving her hand a kiss and Misty giving her a curtsey. Carlos hands Dude to Evie so he could get a chocolate strawberry.

Misty and Ben walk over to their parents Belle and Adam give their kids a hug. "That was so lovely!" Belle says hugging Ben. All four of them walk to a smaller they all stand as they pose for a picture. "Just here?" Misty asks. "Ready?" the photographer asks. "Just stand still against me" Belle says adjusting where Ben stood. Misty and Ben were standing in the middle of their parents, Belle next to Ben and Adam next to Misty with a hand on her shoulder.

As they were about to take the picture Ben says, "Oh. By the way, I have a new girlfriend." He says looking at his dad. Belle gasps softly as she and Adam look at him, Misty looks at her brother smiling proudly. Belle sighs as they all turn to the photographer and smile. "Well, I never wanted to say anything, but I always thought that Audrey was a little self-absorbed with a fake smile and kind of a kiss-up." Misty takes a glance at her mom due to the comment she made about Audrey. "We are working on it mom. Im helping her get out of that." Misty says in defense. Belle looks at her daughter then back at the photographer. "Do we know your new girlfriend?" Adam asked looking at Ben.

"On the count of three." The photographer started, "One, two.." He said as he got ready to take the picture. "Well, sort of." Ben says waving to Mal. "Mal!" He calls her over. Ben and Adam look over to Mal in confusion as Ben and Misty smile at the photographer. "Three!" He said as he took the picture. "Mal?" Ben says as he goes over to his girlfriend. Ben and Adam look at each other confused, as Adam holds Belle's hands.

 Mal starts to walk closer, Misty waves at her, "Hi Mal!" Mal waves back and her parents look at her confused, "You knew about her?" Belle asks. Misty nods, "Yeah, A big sister knows everything, besides Im friends with her." At this point Belle and Adam were beyond confused and shocked. "Mal, I wanna introduce you to my parents." Ben says hugging her once she reaches him. "Awww" Misty coos while looking at them holding her hands to her heart. Her parents gave her a look. "What, Im happy for my brother." she says shrugging. 

Ben and Mal pull back from the hug and Ben holds her hand and turns towards his parents and his sister. "This is Mal. From the island. My girlfriend." Ben introduced. Misty smiled, "Hi Mal, love the outfit by the way." Misty says to her friend. "Thanks M." Mal smiles. "Hi." Belle greets, Mal gives a small 'hi' back. Adam just gives a small wave to her. Mal gives him a thin smile. 

"I was thinking maybe she can join us for lunch." Ben asks. Adam looks at them, "Of course, any friend of Ben's..." Adam said stuttering a bit. "I actually came with my friends." Mal says talking about the other Vk's. "Well, you should invite them." Belle says as Adam looks over at Mal's friends. Carlos and Jay waved at the King with chocolate all over their faces, while Evie was hold Dude. "Because the more the merrier!" Belle said chuckling nervously. Mal nods "Yeah, I'll go grab them." She says about to leave. 

"How about a game of croquet before lunch?" Adam asks. "Of course!" Mal says smiling , "Game on." Ben says fist bumping his Dad, "Game on." He responded. Ben wraps his arm over Mal's shoulders as they walk away. Misty still stands by her parents smiling while watching her brother and her friend walk away. Belle then falls back from shock, Misty and Adam catch her before she falls down helping her up

Everyone was at the area where everyone was playing croquet. Misty was hanging out with Carlos playing with Dude. In the corner of her eye she sees Audrey and her Grandma standing by Mal. "uh oh" Misty says under her breath, she turns to Carlos, "I will be right back" Carlos nods and goes back to playing with Dude. Misty speed walks over to them as Audrey begins eyeing Mal up and down. "Unless you want to take another hundred year nap." Audrey says as Misty walks closer. 

Mal smiles at Leah and Leah looks at her shocked. "You!" Leah exclaims. Everyones attention turns to them and Misty walks faster and stands next to Mal standing a little bit in front of her putting a hand out in front of her in a protective matter. "How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?" Leah asks looking Mal up and down. Mal was about to says something, but Misty beats her to it. "Queen Leah, its okay." Misty says still having a arm in front of Mal, Ben comes up behind Mal and places his hands on her shoulders, Mal looks back at him.

"Maleficent is still on the island. This is her daughter, Mal." Ben says wrapping a arm around Mal, as Mal smiles at them. "Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?" Misty says hoping to deescalate the situation. Leah looks at Misty, "A chance to what, Misty? Destroy us?" Leah says looking straight at Mal. Mal has a sad look on her face, Misty noticed this and her big sister instincts kicked in. Misty had to hold back a upset glare at Audrey and her Grandmother. Misty stands a little bit more in front of Mal.

"Come on. You remember, don't you? The poison apples." Leah says looking at Fairy Godmother for comfort. Fairy Godmother goes over to her and hold her hand and places a hand on her shoulder. Leah looks at Belle and Adam. "The spells. Spells." She looks over at Mal. "My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!" She says raising her voice at Mal. 

Leah crosses her arms and looks away from them. Mal starts to walk towards her, "Hey, Im so.." But Chad blocks her, "Go away! Stay away from her!" Chad says standing in front of Leah and Audrey. Misty stands in front of Mal and Ben. "Stay out of this, Chad, this doesn't involve you!" Misty says her voice going cold. 

Chad looks at her, "What? They were raised by their parents, Misty. Ben, your sister under control." Chad says looking at Ben. Ben doesn't respond he just glares at him. Chad scoffs and looks back at Misty, "What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play?" Misty nods her head to Ben signaling to leave the area so she could handle it. Ben understands and starts to lead Mal away but Chad turns around and points to Mal before she could leave, "You stole another girl's boyfriend." Misty gives him a angry look, "Cut it out Chad!" Chad puts his hands up and points at Jay, "You enjoy hurting people." He then looks at Evie, "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater." He says looking proud of himself. Misty then moves to stand in front of Evie protectively.

Evie then takes out her mirror and says to it, "Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest jerk in the land?" she says and shows her mirror to Chad over Misty's shoulder. "What!" Chad says, he tries to slap Evie's mirror away but ends up hitting Misty's cheek instead. Everyone gasps and Chad looks shocked. Misty looks at him shocked as she holds her red cheek.

Jay then goes up to Chad and grabs him by the collar, "Back off Chad". Evie moves Misty aside and looks at her cheek. Mal then walks over to Misty and holds her cheek and examines it. "Mal, Evie, I'm ok." Misty says trying to calm everyone down. Evie goes over to Chad and sprays a perfume in his face. Chad starts to fall unconscious and fall back.

Jay was still going at Chad and Ben had to get him away from Chad before he did anymore damage. Audrey helps put Chad down on the ground but looks at Misty to make sure that she was ok. Jay goes back to where he was previously standing, still glaring angrily at Chad. Everyone now looks concerned at Chad due to his unconsciousness. "Evie did something to Chad!" Lonnie says. Evie goes to Mal and Misty, she grabs their arms and drags them off. "Come on guys" She says angrily looking back at Chad.

Evie, Mal and Misty past Misty's parents and brother, she stops in her tracks. Evie and Mal look at her but then sees Misty's parents looking at Misty. Misty motions for them to go, Evie nods and leaves dragging Mal behind her with the rest of the Vk's following. Misty walks up to her parents and brother, Belle then goes over to her and turns Misty's head to the side to look at the place she got hit. "I'm fine, Mom." Misty says looking at her father who had a disappointed look on his face. Her mom pulls away as Misty walks to stand in front of her Dad.

Adam takes off his glasses and grabs a cloth and cleans his glasses. "I feared something like this would happen." Misty looks at her father balling her fists, "This isn't their fault! Chad was the one who escalated the situation when there was no need for him to, or heck blame me! I was the one who stood in front of Evie to protect her, and when I got hit by Chad, Jay just reacted to someone he knows getting hurt! It wasn't their fault!" Misty says looking to her brother for support. Ben looks at her and nods as he turns to his parents, "Im with M, it wasn't their fault." Misty smiles and looks back at her parents.

Adam looks down still cleaning his glasses, "No, Misty." He says putting his glasses back on. "It's yours." He says looking straight at his daughter. She could the pure disappointment in his eyes. She knew that he meant that bringing the kids from the Isle over and creating this whole fiasco in the first place was her fault."I told you that I'd hope I wouldn't regret the decision to let this proclamation go through, I had my doubts. I guess they were right..." Adam says. Misty's eyes watered as her father said that. 

Ben looked at his sister, not really knowing what to do. Belle looks at her daughter with sad eyes. Adam holds out a hand for his wife to take, she hesitated but took it, looking back at her children. "Mom..." Misty calls out her voice cracking as a tear runs down her cheek. Belle looked forward again as she walked away with her husband.

 "Let's go Ben." Misty heard her father say to her brother. Ben is taken aback and looks at his sister. "Ben! I said lets go!" Her father yells. Ben starts to walk with to his parents, "Ben...." Misty says as her bottom lip quivers. Ben looks at his sister with an apologetic look, "I'm so sorry, M.." Ben says walking towards his parents. 

Misty then turns to see Chad being guided by Audrey, Audrey gives her a sad look, and leads Chad away from the premises. Then Misty looks at Doug and Lonnie, Doug leads Lonnie away. 

For the first time, Misty felt...alone. 

Misty felt all eyes on her, she knew she couldn't break down in front of everyone, a future queen wouldn't do that. So, she stood up straight, wiped the tears from her eyes, fixed her dress and held her head tall. She sighed and walked out of the eyes of everyone.

It was now lunch time and Misty walks over to the lunch table where the Vk's were at, still on the verge of a breakdown. "Hey, guys. Listen, I'm so sorry about what happened, I didn't mean for any of this to happen." She sighs, "Listen, forget about it. They don't know what you went through, you are innocent. They don't know you, the you I saw. They are just too small minded to see past the fact that you are kids of villains." She says walking over to stand near Mal. "Tomorrow, after the coronation, I promise everything will be okay, I will make sure of it." She looks at them smiling, Misty leans down and says in Mal's ear. "Ben had to go, but he said he would talk to you later." She whispered and placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'll see you guys later." Misty says to the rest of them. She leaves the table but not before glaring at Chad, who was sitting at the table next to the Vk's, which was weird but Misty didn't ask.

"Misty." She heard Evie call her. Misty turns around to face her. "Thanks for sticking up for us when no one would." Evie says giving her a small smile. Misty gives her a small smile back and a nod, "Of course." With that Misty left back to the castle.

When Misty got to her room she broke down, she leaned against the door and slid down it. She wrapped her arms around her knees and cried. All of her emotions from the last month taken a toll on her and she finally broke after holding it in for so long. 

She felt alone, she had helped everyone her whole life and now, she didn't even know how to help herself. She had spent her younger years basically raising her brother, she would look after him all the time never really having time to do what she wanted. Of course, she loved her brother very much and would do anything for him, but he got something that she never did.

To be a kid...

She had grown up to fast...

She was expected to be this perfect ruler a such at young age. She was a sixteen year old girl, who was turning seventeen a month after her coronation. She wasn't fit to be queen, no one at this age was. She didn't really have a choice, she just had to suck it up and do what's best for her kingdom. But looking at herself right now, she wasn't she sure if she could even do that.

When she made her initial proclamation she wanted to help give the kids of the Isle a chance at a new life. She want to unite her people and bring them together, but she couldn't even do that.

She felt worthless, she was supposed to be strong. Someone the kingdom could look up to and go to when they needed her. Now, all they see is the mistake she made bringing the four villain kids to Auradon, but Misty didn't see it as a mistake, she never did.

Maybe her father was right...maybe this was....her fault

Misty stood up and looked at her reflection in the mirror, she was supposed to see a strong, kind hearted, and assertive queen, but all she saw was a sad excuse of one, a failure.

She was supposed to be the queen, but she was just a failure.
