First Kiss...Goodbye

17:06, 25 October 2014

Louise's POV

My head was banging. How much did I drink last night? I couldn't really remember a lot about it if I was honest.

Hesitantly, I sat up on my bed when I was struck by a major wave of dizziness. I had to sit still for a while to pull myself together.

There was a light knock on my door so I gently walked towards it. It was Ed.

"What is this?" I groggily asked referring to my headache.

"A hangover." Ed forced a smile suggesting his head hurt just as much as mine.

"I know, but... what is this?" I repeated not really sure what I was going on about.

Ed chuckled, "You drink as much as me, and I get drunk a lot."

"I wish I didn't. Wanna come in?" I asked.

"Yeah." He replied and in he came. "Have you packed?"

"Packed?" I was confused and then remembered. "Wait, today is the last day? It's Friday already?"

"Yep." Ed popped the 'p'.

"Oh." I frowned. "But yeah, I packed. I didn't really properly unpack in the first place."

I suddenly felt really sad. Ed and I weren't going to be hanging out anymore. We wouldn't be messing about in the kitchens, or being subjected to Carlos' madness.

"I know exactly how you feel." Ed said, noticing my facial expression becoming sad. "But..."

"But...?" I said.

"We don't have to work because everyone is leaving before lunch. We can do whatever we want." He smiled.

"That's a very good but." I pointed out.

"But first, we're gonna need some coffee or tea. And paracetamol, to get rid of this banging headache." Ed said.

"Good thinking." I told him.

Luckily, I always carried a small box of paracetamol with me so we downed them with a glass of water.

We headed to the canteen and we made ourselves a mug of coffee each. Damn they tasted good.

"Where's Carlos?" I asked.

"Teaching. He had a right go at me this morning though for getting drunk. Apparently you thought my hair was on fire and threw water on me."

"Really?" I laughed. "Damn I wish I could remember that."

"So do I." He agreed.

"I'm surprised he didn't get so drunk. I never thought of Carlos to be the responsible type." I said.

"Neither did I. It's probably because he's older." Ed smirked.

"Probably." I grinned back.

"Okay, so... plans for today?" Ed said.

"Hmm..." I thought about it when I saw a sparkle in Ed's eyes. "What?"

"On our first day here, we said we would 'jam' together." Ed recalled.

"Oh yeah, we did." I nodded, remembering.

"Well that's what we shall do." He smiled.

We had the whole music room to ourselves. There were so many instruments around, I couldn't even name some. Guitars, drums, keyboards, violins, to name a few.

The room was plastered in posters of famous musicians and bands. Famous quotes and lyrics were stuck to the wall, some pretty weird, some pretty amazing.

"This room is so cool." I said.

"That is exactly what I said when I first stepped in here." Ed told me.

"Clever minds think alike." I smiled.

We walked in further and I sat down on the chair of the drum kit.

"Play me a song." I asked.

"Well..." Ed looked down at the floor.

"Please," I smiled sweetly. "You're really awesome."

I remembered when I first heard him on the first day of camp. His voice was bliss.

"Okay... but on one condition." He said.

"What?"

"You sing next." He requested.

"No."

"Why not?" He asked.

"Sure I can play a few instruments but I definitely cannot sing." I explained.

"Bull shit." He said. "Look, I'll sing with you."

"Answer is still no. When I said jam, I meant as in I play the musical instruments and you sing."

"Pretty, pretty please." He gave me puppy dog eyes.

"Ed..."

"Pleeeease."

"Fine!" I gave in far too quickly.

"Yes!" He smiled hugely. "Okay... what to sing?"

"An original song: one you've written yourself." I said.

"I know just the one. I wrote it just yesterday."

"Great." I smiled over excited.

"I'm gonna pick up the pieces and build a Lego House

If things go wrong we can knock it down

My three words have two meanings, but there's one thing on my mind

It's all for you, ooh

And it's dark in a cold December, but I've caught you to keep me warm

If ya broken I'll mend ya, and I'll keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging ooon now

I'm out of touch, I'm out of love, I'll pick you up when you're getting down

And out of all these things I've done, I will love you better now..." Ed carried on singing.

His voice captivated me in a way no other voice could. His lyrics had a deeper meaning to them which I craved to decipher. He was so talented.

"I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind, I'll do it all. for you in time

And out of all these things I've done, I will love you better now, noooow

I'm gonna paint you by numbers, and colour you in

If things go right, we'll frame it, and put you on a wall

And it's so hard to say it, but I've been here before

Now I'll surrender up my heart, and swap in for yours..." He beautifully sang.

I gazed in awe at him and how he was so engaged with the song. His eyes remained closed but he would open them for brief moments to look at me.

"And out of all these things I've done, I will love you better now." He ended the song.

I just sat there. Staring at him in disbelief. How could something so amazing come out of a normal human being? Well, Ed was definitely not normal. He was special.

"So... you liked it?" He looked at me expectantly.

"Wow." Was all I could say. I was speechless. This just made Ed smile.

"I'll take that as a yes." He laughed and I nodded. "Your turn."

"Our turn you mean." I corrected.

"Same thing." He replied.

"Guys!" Carlos suddenly burst through the door which frightened the fuck out of me.

"What?" Ed laughed.

"It's time. It's the end. Oh my gosh I think I might cry." Carlos flowed in to the room.

"What?" I asked.

"Camp has finished." He informed us.

"Now?" Ed questioned.

"They finished early. Everyone is leaving now. Come and say goodbye to everyone with me." Carlos ordered.

Ed and I stood there for a moment, thoroughly confused.

"Everyone is leaving now!" Carlos grabbed my hand and lead me out of the door, Ed trailing behind.

I guess I was free from singing.

We walked out to where everyone was, saying their goodbyes, bags in hands. I didn't really know any of the children as I had been in the kitchens nearly all of the time. However, Ed and Carlos knew a few people.

"Bye!" Someone yelled.

"Cya soon dude!" Another person waved.

"Keep in touch bro!" A heard someone say in the distance.

I watched as teenagers hugged and hurried in to cars and coaches.

"Ed!" A little girl walked up to Ed and I. Carlos was lost somewhere in the crowd.

"Hi, Angel." He waved.

"I'm going now. To see uncle Dan. I think everything will be okay. Thanks for listening to me and stuff." She thanked.

"No problem kiddo. Good luck with everything yeah." Ed smiled.

"Bye." She gave him a hug which caught him off guard yet he still hugged her.

"Bye." Ed replied as the girl pulled away and ran off to say goodbye to other people.

"Aww, she was so cute."I said.

"She's had a rough life, believe me." He told me.

I decided not to ask what her 'rough life' was in case it was something I wouldn't really like to hear.

The loud roar of children soon lowered as the Camp emptied. There were less and less children until finally they had all gone.

"When do we go then?" I asked Ed.

"Whenever we want." He replied.

Carlos rushed up to the two of us.

"This is all so emotional! Oh my gosh! You chicos going back to the rooms to get your stuff?" He asked.

"Um yeah, let's go." I said and we all made our way to our rooms.

I couldn't believe it. So this was it; this was the end. No more working with Ed. No more madness from Carlos. No more Camp.

I stood, waiting for my taxi as Ed and Carlos wheeled their suitcases towards me.

"Louise chica, I can't believe I'm not going to see you again!" Carlos looked upset.

"Maybe we could meet up sometime?" I suggested.

"No can do chica. When my brother gets here, we're going straight to the airport. I'm going back to Spain." He told me.

"Permanently?" Ed asked to which Carlos nodded his head.

A car pulled up beside us.

"This is my ride." Carlos announced.

"I'm going to miss you, Carlos." Ed said and they hugged.

"Me too." I added.

Carlos came and gave me a huge warm hug and held me in his warm embrace.

"He loves you, chica. Even if he doesn't know it yet." He whispered in my ear so Ed couldn't hear. What did that mean?

He pulled away from me and opened the car door.

"Adios my friends! I will never forget you!" Carlos waved and then stepped in to the car.

He drove off in to the distance and we never saw him again...

"I'm gonna miss that guy." Ed said.

"So am I. I'm going to miss you too." I truthfully told him.

"Me too." He looked sad.

"Gimme your phone." I ordered.

"What?"

"Just give it." I said.

He got out his phone, unlocked it, and then handed it to me. I went in to his contacts list and pressed 'Add a contact'. I typed my number in and saved it as 'Louise a.k.a Yoda'.

"I meant it when I said I wanted to go on another date with you. When you're free, call me. Okay?" I handed his phone back.

My taxi drove up on the edge of the curb.

"Definitely. Of course." Ed told me.

"You ready to go?" The taxi driver lowered his window.

"Yeah, just a sec." I said and he put his window back up.

"Bye, Louise." Ed said.

"Hug?" I opened my arms and he took it. I felt safe and secure in his arms. I didn't want to let go.

"Well bye." I pulled away and started to walk around the taxi to the door.

"Louise, wait!" Ed ran around and we stood face to face. "I need to tell you something."

"What?"

"This."

He leaned in and our lips collided. It felt magical. The feel of his lips on mine felt right. He tasted of coffee and smelt of lynx. The swirl of our tongues together made my heart hammer hard in my chest. It was perfect.

We pulled away and started smiling like weirdos.

"Sorry, I just-" Ed began, only to be interrupted by my lips pressing against his once again. It was perfection. I pulled away and smiled.

"That was..." I couldn't finish the sentence. Unexpected? Nice?

"Long over due." He finished off.

"Certainly." I smiled.

"Cya around." He waved.

"Yeah." I bit my lip and entered the car.
