A Trip to the Past

21:48, 21 May 2014

Louise's POV

I eyed my clock. 7:59pm. Less than one minute.

Oh gosh. Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh.

I sat on my bed, trying not to bite my nails. My feet felt like jelly and I tried to control my shaking. Why the heck was I so nervous? It was just a date. Nothing spectacular.

What made me even more anxious was the fact that I didn't know where we were even going. All he told me was to wear something casual and not to eat anything. He decided that we shouldn't eat at the Camp, so at least I know we're probably going to a restaurant.

I guess that was lucky he said to dress casual considering I didn't bring anything elegant and nice with me. I didn't exactly think I would be going on a date now did I?

Every time Ed was around, I tried to act cool, but I felt like everything I said to him was stupid and creepy. I mean, why would he ask me out on a date of all people?

The clock changed to 8:00pm as soon as Ed knocked on my door. My heart jumped at the noise. Eight on the dot.

I exhaled a deep breath. Stay calm, be cool. Don't fuck anything up.

I stood up and leaped to the door. I gripped the door knob tightly and opened it.

All my fears and worries disappeared as soon as I saw his face.

He was wearing a long-sleeved, black jumper and baggy trousers. His fiery hair was a ginger mess which I loved. He looked just as nervous as me which was some how relaxing.

He smiled as soon as he saw me which made my heart melt.

"Hey." He shyly spoke.

"Hi." I bit my lip and smiled at the ground.

"You ready to go?"

"Yep," I closed the door and we walked out of my room. "So where are we going?"

"Now that would be telling." He winked which made me blush.

He lead me to his car and opened the door for me. He was such a gentleman.

"Thanks." I stepped in.

He walked round to the other side and got in next to me and began to drive.

"Will you at least tell me how far it is?" I asked.

"Erm..." He thought about it. "Ten minutes... ish."

"You don't sound too sure about that."

"It's because I'm not." He replied.

"Why? Have you never been?"

"Nope, but I'm pretty sure you have." He revealed.

"What?" I was confused.

"All will be revealed." He smirked.

"Alright." I sighed.

"You look beautiful by the way." He complimented and I just died. Not literally of course. But I died. I tried my absolute hardest not to let the killer smile escape my mouth.

No one had ever called me beautiful before...

"Thanks." I blushed. "Don't look too bad yourself."

"I'm flattered." He smirked.

I wanted to keep the conversation flowing. The last thing I wanted to happen was to be an awkward silence. So I said the first thing that popped in to my head.

"You spoken to Harry lately?" I asked. Why the heck did I say that?! He probably thought I still had feelings for him, but I swear on my life I didn't.

"Yeah, just this morning actually." He replied casually.

"Really?" Well it wasn't too surprising seen as though they were best mates.

"Yeah, I was just checking if he was cool with me going out with you. You know, coz he's my mate and if he still had feelings for you and I went out with you, it wouldn't be cool of me." He explained.

"It's cool, I get it. That's quite loyal of you." I admitted. It was nice that he cared about his friend's feelings as well as his. "It's obvious Harry doesn't care about me anymore."

"I really don't understand why though. You're pretty cool." He said as if it meant nothing, but him saying that really meant something.

I just assumed it was my fault Harry broke up with me, like something was wrong with me. But maybe, just maybe, I wasn't the problem. Maybe we just lost our spark.

"Thanks, Ed. Really." I thanked him.

"Any time." He smiled.

"So what about you then, hmm?" I was curious.

"What about me?" He was confused.

"Previous girlfriends."

"Oh. Our stories are pretty similar." He said.

"What do you mean?"

"I've only ever had 2 girlfriends. Sara and Clare. They both ended rather drastically and one on bad terms." He explained.

"What do you mean?" I was interested.

"Do you really want to know?"

"Yeah." I truthfully said.

"Well Sara was my girlfriend for about five months in High School. I thought the world of her, I even wrote a really cringy song about her. But she didn't feel the same. One day she just texted me saying 'I'm breaking up with you' and on the next day I saw her with another guy."

"Woah, no offense but she sounds like a bitch." I truthfully said. Poor Ed. That was beyond cruel.

"None taken."

"So what about Clare?"

"Urgh, Clare. She was my girlfriend when I was 17 slash 18. We went out for 11 months. Caught her fucking her best friend's brother. We had a pretty heated argument and I stormed out. I didn't want to see her ever again. I was a mess."

"Oh my gosh. That's..."

"Sad? Pathetic?" He suggested.

"Cruel. Both those girls were idiots."

"I kind of thought there was something wrong with me and never really had a girlfriend after that." He told me.

He felt just how I felt. He thought there was something wrong with him, but there wasn't.

"Well those girls were idiots. There's nothing wrong with you."

"Thanks." He smiled. "It means a lot. I've never really spoken about them before."

"Are we sad?" I said, suddenly feeling depressed.

"Probably." He nodded. "But we can be sad together."

"Yeah." I smiled.

"So what about you, before Harry?" He asked.

"Just the one in High School, year 11. We just grew apart and then when we found out that we were going to different colleges we broke up. It was a mutual decision and I wasn't too fussed." I explained.

"Oh right."

"Not as hurtful as yours. Girls can be mean."

"So can guys." He said.

The fact that we had been both hurt in a relationship made Ed and I connect a bit more. He understood and so did I. It was nice to get our previous relationships out in the open.

Looking out the window, I began to recognise my surroundings: I had been around here before. But when?

"Will you tell me where we're going now?" I asked.

"Nope. I want to see your face when you see." He smiled.

"Why?" I was thoroughly confused yet excitement sparked through me. This was no ordinary date to the cinema or something. This was different.

"Because I just do. You'll understand when we get there."

"Fine, fine, fine." I sighed.

"You never guess what Carlos told me before I left." Ed grinned.

"What?"

"He has a crush!" Ed said to my surprise.

"Really?" My eyes widened.

"Yeah, some guy called Zayn or something."

"Aww that's so cute."

"But guess what?" Ed continued.

"What?"

"Zayn's taken." He said. "By some guy called Shady."

"Ouch!" I felt sorry for him. "Poor Carlos."

"I know!" Ed agreed.

"You never know, he might still be in with a chance." I said.

"Yeah I guess so." Ed said. "Carlos doesn't really have a good gay-dar you know. I think he thought I was gay at first, he still thinks I dye my hair ginger."

"He thinks you dye your hair ginger?" I laughed.

"Yeah, I know."

"I've always wondered, you know when your hair goes grey, would you dye your hair ginger?" I randomly asked.

"Erm, I dunno. I've never really thought about it." He truthfully said.

"I can't imagine you with grey hair." I studied him.

"Neither can I." He said. "I think we're here."

"You think?" I asked as he pulled up his car.

"Yep."

We both opened our doors and stepped out. As soon as the wind hit me, I knew exactly where we were even in the darkening sky.

"You really do listen." I smiled.

"Yep." He smiled proudly.

"I can't believe you've taken me here. You honestly don't know how much this means to me." I gave him a huge hug, taking him off guard. "Thank you." I whispered.

It was Cecilia's. My favourite place in the whole world. Where I found my love for cooking. Where my grandma and I always used to go before she died. So many memories. And now a new one was going to be made.

"Shall we?" He held out his arm.

"Let's." I took his arm and we walked in.

"Welcome to Cecilia's!" Ed grinned.

"Woah." I breathed, truly amazed.
