Final Chapter
03:46, 25 February 2015"He didn't make it. It was too late," the doctor dreadfully said. The words hit Jackson like gunshot.
"He....no...." Jackson whispered. He dropped to his knees. His world immediately crashed and fell into shambles. He was too shocked and sad to cry. No tears formed.
Jackson's mother put a hand over her mouth. She too was in shock. She bent down and put an arm around her devastated son. Words couldn't explain her guilt for what her son was feeling.
"You may see him if you want. He's been moved to the mortuary," the doctor quietly said with sad eyes. He left the scene.
Jackson carefully and slowly rose from his knees. He shuffled and limped his way to where his now dead boyfriend was, clinging onto his mother for support. They arrived at the mortuary, and Jackson immediately opened the door with two shaky hands. He immediately saw Mark's lifeless body half covered with a white sheet. Jackson stumbled towards the bed. He grabbed Mark's cold hand and closed his eyes. His breathing became shallow.
"Until we meet again, Mark. I love you," Jackson chocked out. His parents quietly watched from behind. His mother could no longer hold back her tears. When Jackson was done with his words, they all walked out together.
"Can we hold a service for Mark? Just something for us...without inviting anyone," Jackson whispered as they entered the lobby.
"Of course. Would you like to do it now?" Jackson's mother asked.
"Sure..."
They walked to the front office.
"Hi, we'd like to have a service for Mark Tuan as soon as possible. It is best if it's today," Jackson's father asked the receptionist.
"Of course. We'll prepare a room for you right now. You can use this time to go buy flowers or anything you'd like," the lady replied.
"Thank you."
The Wang family went to the floral shop and bought many garlands and bouquets. They also went home to change into formal attire. Within an hour, they arrived back at the hospital. With assistance, they found their way to Mark's service room. Although Mark's body wasn't there, they put a large photo of Mark on the wall. Jackson decorated the room with the florals.
To begin the ceremony, Jackson and his parents kneeled down. Each person said what they wanted to say to Mark. They talked about good memories and how much they'd miss him. The ceremony was ended after each of them placed three incense in a pot. They all drove home.
******Later that night******
After dinner had finished at the Wang house, all was quiet. It was much different not having Mark around. The atmosphere was silent and awkward. Jackson was the first to stand up.
"I'm tired, I should go to sleep since I have school tomorrow," Jackson began. He walked over to his parents and hugged both of them. "I love you, Mom and Dad. Thank you for taking care of me." Jackson walked upstairs into his room.
Jackson pulled out a large piece of paper from his backpack and went to his desk. He pulled out a pen from his drawer and began to write. When he was done, he left the paper where it was. Jackson grabbed a leather belt from his closet and a short wooden stool from the corner of his bed. He began to cry as he was ready. Ready to end his own life. Jackson, attached the belt to his ceiling fan and looped it to make it a noose. He carefully stepped up on the stool. Slowly, he slipped his head through the belt loop. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
"I'll see you on the other side, Mark."
Jackson kicked over the stool as he let his body dangle...helplessly.
******A few hours later******
Jackson's mother walked upstairs to check on her son. She quietly opened the door. Light from the desk lamp reflected off of Jackson's hung body. His mother let out a deafening scream. Jackson's father immediately ran up to check what happened. As he saw what dangled in front of her, he gasped and stopped in shock. He immediately grabbed his wife by the shoulders and pulled her in to shield her from the horrible sight. They both cried and cried. It was not until a few moments later that they noticed what was on the desk. It was a note written by Jackson.
Mom, Dad.
You must be very disappointed in me. I'm sorry for making you feel this pain. I couldn't live any longer. A life without Mark is no life at all. I'd rather be dead than live the rest of my life in sorrow. I'm so sorry...I wish it didn't have to end this way. Please don't cry over this. Just remember that your son is now in a better place, with the boy he loves. There's nothing better to wish for than that. Thank you for taking care of me all these years. I wish you a long life, and great health. Until we meet again on the other side. I love you.
- Jackson
