The Unraveling

"The past doesn't knock it kicks down the door."

The days that followed were different.

Y/n and Taehyung didn't define what they were.

They didn't need to.

Their connection existed in the spaces between words, in every shared glance, every text message that arrived at 1:47 a.m., always starting with "Are you still awake?"

It wasn't perfect. It wasn't official.

But it was real.

And it scared her more than she wanted to admit.

Meanwhile, the final business competition loomed, and the pressure at school had reached boiling point. Everyone was watching them now not just as students, but as future heirs.

Even their friends were beginning to notice.

"You two haven't killed each other yet," Jimin said one day, glancing between them. "Should we be worried or hopeful?"

"Maybe both," Yoongi muttered.

Taehyung didn't answer. His eyes were fixed on Y/n as she scribbled notes across a whiteboard.

He was hopeless. And maybe a little bit obvious.

Y/n's mother had started to notice too.

Late one evening, as they sat in the garden drinking tea, she gently reached over and touched her daughter's hand.

"Is it him?" she asked softly.

Y/n blinked. "What?"

"Your eyes soften when you talk about him. I haven't seen you like this in a long time."

Y/n hesitated, looking away.

Her mother didn't press. She simply smiled. "If he's the one who helps you carry the weight your father gave you, then... I'm not against it."

Y/n's eyes welled. But she didn't cry.

She simply nodded. "Thank you, Umma."

But just as things started to feel steady...

The past arrived like a storm.

Literally.

It was during a Friday school assembly when the announcement came over the speakers

"We welcome back an international transfer and our former valedictorian, Choi Minseo, from KPREP Geneva. She will be rejoining the senior class for the remainder of the term."

Y/n's pen froze mid sentence.

She slowly turned toward the doors where a tall girl with long auburn hair, confident eyes, and designer heels stepped inside with a small, polite smile.

And she was holding hands with someone.

Kim Taehyung.

The auditorium buzzed with whispers. Phones were lifted. Photos taken.

Y/n didn't move.

She couldn't.

Because Taehyung looked stunned.

And Choi Minseo looked like she'd never let go of him again.

They had history. Everyone knew that. Childhood sweethearts. Both heirs. She left for Geneva without warning two years ago. No goodbye. No explanation.

And now... she was back. Holding his hand like no time had passed.

Y/n's stomach twisted.

Jennie leaned in. "She's doing that on purpose."

Y/n nodded, lips pressed into a thin line. "I know."

"But... Taehyung looked surprised. He didn't expect it."

Y/n didn't reply.

Because it wasn't about what he expected it was about what he would do now.

Taehyung caught up with Y/n after class, face unreadable.

"Y/n—"

"You don't have to explain," she said, breezing past him.

He grabbed her wrist gently. "Please."

"She held your hand."

"I didn't know she was coming. I haven't spoken to her in two years."

"But you didn't pull away," she whispered.

The words hung between them.

Taehyung looked away, jaw tight. "I froze."

She nodded slowly, pulling her arm free. "I get it. She was your first. It's fine."

"It's not fine. Not when you look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're building walls again."

Her voice was tired. "Maybe I should. Just in case."

That night, Taehyung sat on the rooftop of his home, the sky stretching endlessly above him.

Minseo had texted:

"Can we talk? I want to explain everything."

He didn't reply.

Because all he could think about was the girl who looked at him like he could break her

And the worst part?

He might have.

Meanwhile, Y/n lay in her bed, staring at her ceiling.

She should've been used to disappointment. To people choosing others. To not being the first pick.

But with him...

She thought maybe just maybe—it would be different.

And that hurt more than she was ready for.
