29. You're like my Sister
03:15, 19 November 2024I was training with Dad and Wanda today. We were practising different moves that could be helpful in a fight or just to get somewhere faster. Wanda and I had also been working on using our powers together, but we still weren't completely sure how to do that yet. I was finessing the move where I walk up force field steps and do a flip by pushing off Dad's shoulders when Uncle Sam walked through.
"Nice going, Katie!" he said while walking back out of the training room.
"Thanks, Uncle Sam," I called back before he was out of earshot. I high-fived Dad and continued to practise until Dad said it was enough. Dad always has to tell me to stop training. Otherwise, I'll never stop. I ran over to Wanda and grabbed her hand to pull her toward the kitchen so we could have ice cream. Wanda was only 6 years older than me, so hanging out with her was refreshing compared to all the much older adults I had grown up with. We both grabbed a cone each, then ran out to our favourite sitting spot on the grass outside. Together, we sat and enjoyed the August sun while eating our ice cream. After a few minutes, I noticed that Wanda wasn't herself today.
"Is everything ok?" I asked, worried that she may be thinking of Pietro again. Losing someone was always hard, and I often tried to help Wanda grieve after her brother passed away. She gave me a small smile before looking at her feet and answering,
"I'm doing ok. It's just that it's been about a year, and you still don't call me aunt like you do everyone else. I've been hoping that you don't have anything against me."
I instantly sat up on my knees while facing her.
"No! I don't have anything against you!" I reassured her, "I have a different reason."
Wanda looked up at me with curious eyes, waiting for me to go on. "We are much closer in age, so I feel as though we have a different relationship than the ones with my aunts and uncles. I enjoy being a teenage girl with you because you're not my aunt. You're like my big sister." I had an embarrassed smile on my face and looked down a little.
"Really?" Wanda questioned, and I nodded in reply. She beamed at me and took my hand in hers. "That's even better."
We were both beaming at each other. After a moment, we continued to eat our ice cream, joking around and laughing.
Later, Wanda and I decided to have a sleepover in her room. After dinner, I grabbed my PJs and pillow, then I ran down the hall to Wanda's room. When she opened the door after my knock, I jumped onto her bed, giggling. We decided to watch the 2010 version of Alice and Wonderland while Wanda did my hair in fun hairstyles. We were at the part where the Hatter was about to have his head cut off when Vision suddenly came into the room through the wall. I jumped and put a hand to my chest from being shocked.
"Vis, you can't go through walls like that. Especially into other peoples' rooms," Wanda scolded with a kind voice.
"My apologies, Wanda and Miss Katie," Vision replied, "Miss Katie, your father just wanted to make sure you were still going on your morning run."
"Yes, I will," I answered with a smile, "But Vision, perhaps try knocking next time."
"Of course. Have a good night, Miss Katie and Wanda." Vision left, and Wanda and I started laughing.
