26. Baking
11:15, 18 November 2024It was a lovely Saturday afternoon, and I was in the middle of baking mini apple pies for everyone at the Avengers' base. Anyone that was in the building was doing their own thing, so I had the kitchen to myself. Music was playing on my speaker as I danced around the kitchen to grab the ingredients I needed. Dad had come up beside me as I was mixing the apple filling.
"Hey, Honey, what are you up to?" he asked while sneaking an apple slice. I lightly slapped his hand while he just smiled at me and then answered,
"I am making apple pies for everybody."
"Do you need any help? I can hand you the ingredients." Dad snuck another apple slice into his mouth, and I gave him a playful scowl.
"You mean you can eat the ingredients, Daddy. Stop!"
As I was trying to prevent Dad from stealing a third slice, an idea popped into my head. "How about I fight you for it?" I giggled.
"I don't think that's necessary, Sweetheart. They're just apple slices," Dad replied, and I gave him another playful glare and then smirked.
"Do you think you'll lose, old man?"
"Watch it, young lady, you're only fifteen," Dad playfully scolded me with a smirk plastered on his face as well.
"On the count of three. One, two, three!" I pushed on Dad's firm chest while he tried to reach for the apples. After not making any progress in my attempt to push him away, I had an idea to use my force fields. I pulled back and refrained from pushing Dad with all of my strength to give him a false sense of victory. Once it seemed like Dad had fallen for the bait, I used a force field to separate me and Dad, and I got the chance to trip him. That sent Dad landing on his back with a groan. I shouted in victory when I suddenly heard a voice.
"Should I be worried?" Vision asked once he was sitting at the island. Dad and I laughed as I held out a hand to help him up.
"Not anymore, Vision," I reassured him with a smile, "Although, Dad's probably going to try and steal my apple slices again, despite my victory. If you could stand guard while I continue baking, I would be grateful for your company."
Dad playfully rolled his eyes at me with a silly grin.
"Of course, Miss Katie," Vision answered, "Mr Rogers, I'll have to ask you to leave for the sake of the pies."
I laughed at Dad's defeated face as he walked away with his hands in the air.
"You win," he stated as he left the kitchen, "Well played, Rogers."
I smirked and went to high-five Vision, but he didn't understand at first. I grabbed his hand and brought it up to mine as I explained what it was. Vision then understood, and I giggled.
The apple pies turned out great, and everyone loved them. I was pleased with my baking skills, and Dad said he never wanted to eat the apple slices before the pies again.
