Chapter 2

15:13, 3 June 2025

"You look tired."Sally ran her fingers through Percy's hair as she sat down the plate of blue pancakes in front of him at the table."I didn't get much sleep last night." Percy mumbled, his face scrunching up as his mother tugged at his hair a little roughly when she ran her fingers through his hair.

Sally pulled out the seat next to Percy and sat down, facing him as Percy picked up his fork and slowly began to dig into the pancakes that his mother had drowned in syrup, the way he liked it.

"Percy, you're a growing boy, and you need a lot of sleep, especially since you're fourteen now." Sally said, looking at Percy with worry. "Momm, it was one night of little sleep." Percy rolled his eyes. "Do you think it was because of nerves? I know going to a new school is nerve-wracking, but you'll be fine, sweetheart." Sally said softly. "I've gotten used to going to a new school for basically every single year now." Percy smiled at his mother. "It's not nerves. I had a lot on my mind last night, that's all."

Sally stared at her son in silence for a moment."Don't use that tone on me, I'm just worried about you, Percy." Sally said, getting up from her seat."What tone?" Percy questioned, acting innocent."Oh, don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about." Sally rolled her eyes, making her way towards the front door.

Percy looked up as he stuffed more of his pancakes into his mouth, furrowing his eyebrows as he watched his mother go towards the front door. "Where are you going?" Percy asked, his mouth full of food. "Swallow your food before you speak! And I'm going to greet Grover." Sally answered.

"Grover? But no one knocked on the door-?" Percy furrowed his eyebrows, leaning his head to the side to see what his mother was on about. Sally rested her hand on the handle of the door and she glanced back at Percy, smiling at him."And, three...two...one..." Sally counted down.

There was three gentle knocks on the door and Percy blinked as his mother grinned at Percy before she looked over and opened the door. "Grover! Come in, Percy is just finishing up breakfast." "Ah! Good morning, Mrs Jackson!" Percy decided to focus on feasting on his blue pancakes as his mother and best friend greeted each other, both being kind to one another.

Percy managed to finish eating his food when his mother and Grover entered the room. Sally went over, ruffled Percy's hair before she picked up the dirty plate."Have a good day, Percy. Message me if anything happens." Sally said."Mmh, thanks mom." Percy said, getting up from his seat as his mother walked past him and towards the kitchen.

Percy went over and grabbed his packed bag, slinging it over his shoulder as he went over to Grover."Hey." Percy said, giving Grover a weak smile."Hey, you ready for today?" Grover smiled at Percy."Not really. I mean, I got zero sleep last night." Percy sighed as he and Grover began to walk towards the front door.

"Ohh, that's why you look so ba-!" Grover began.Percy shot a glare at Grover and Grover grinned nervously."I, erm... I mean..." Grover fumbled."You're the best Grover, really." Percy sighed as he opened the front door.Grover exited the apartment first."I'm sorry! Sorry, I spoke without thinking! Look, we're gonna be fine today!"Percy sighed as he stepped out and Grover began to walk off as Percy shut the door, slowly following behind Grover.

Percy thought back to what he was thinking about the whole night. The whole soulmates thing.

Percy never experienced much love in his life. Neither platonic or romantic. He had the love of his mother, but other than that? Not really.

Yeah, Grover was his best friend, and Percy thought he was great, but... no offense to Grover, he could be a bit of a mess... Percy still loved him, platonically, but he never felt like they had a super special connection. They had a normal connection!

But who knows? Percy is only fourteen years old, he still had his whole life ahead of him to find his soulmate like his mother always wanted for him.

Right now, Percy just had to focus on not falling asleep or doing anything stupid throughout the school day.
