Chapter 7: The Not-So-Fake Date

16:11, 22 May 2025

If there was one thing Bora had learned in the last week, it was that pretending not to look forward to something was exhausting. She stood in front of her mirror, adjusting her blouse for the third time. It wasn't like she was dressing up for Han Noah. It was just a casual outfit. Comfortable. Practical. Slightly cute.Okay, maybe a little cute. Her phone buzzed.Noah:Outside. Don't worry, I brought snacks. And also, charm. But you knew that.

She rolled her eyes, grabbed her bag, and headed out. When she opened the door, Noah was leaning against his car, wearing a light gray hoodie under a beige jacket, his yellow hair slightly messy from the wind. He looked up and grinned like the world revolved around making her flustered."You clean up nice, baby sprout.""You say that like I don't look nice every day," she said, brushing past him.He laughed. "Touché. Let's go."—The aquarium was less crowded than expected — calm and echoey, the air tinged with saltwater and soft blue light. As they stepped into the first exhibit, surrounded by enormous tanks of drifting fish and glowing coral, Bora forgot for a moment why they were even there.Noah walked slowly beside her, hands in his coat pockets, watching her more than the sea creatures."You always look this focused when you're happy?"She glanced at him. "Do I look happy?""Yeah," he said, quietly. "You do."Her heart stuttered a bit. They passed through jellyfish tunnels, neon lights flickering off the glass, and found themselves in front of a massive wall tank where stingrays glided like slow-moving dancers."You remember I like jellyfish," she said, arms folded."Of course I do," he replied. "You mentioned it that one time when we got caught in the rain outside your building."She stared. "...That was like a year ago.""I listen," he said with a shrug, then shot her a teasing glance. "You just never talk much unless you're arguing with me.""Because arguing with you is a full-time job.""And yet, you never quit."

Halfway through the visit, they sat near a small penguin exhibit, sipping juice from vending machines."You know," Bora said, "for a fake date, this feels really...""Real?" Noah finished, brow raised. She hesitated, then nodded. He leaned toward her, not too close — just enough to make her breath catch. "I told you I wasn't pretending anymore."She looked at her juice bottle like it held answers. "It's still a little terrifying."Noah's voice softened. "I get that."She finally looked up at him. "You're used to things being light, Noah. Fun. Flirty. What if you get bored?"He leaned back, eyes never leaving hers."I think you're mistaking me for someone who gives up easily," he said. "But I'm not going anywhere unless you ask me to."She bit the inside of her cheek, heart thudding."I won't ask," she whispered. And something about the way he smiled after that made her feel like she'd just stepped off the edge of something big — but this time, she wasn't falling alone.

As they walked toward the exit, Noah stopped at the gift shop."Wait here."A few minutes later, he returned holding a tiny plush jellyfish — round, pink, and grinning with stitched eyes.He handed it to her like it was nothing. But the look in his eyes said it was everything."For the girl who likes sea creatures and fake dates that aren't so fake anymore."Bora took it slowly, quietly. And when their hands brushed, she didn't pull away.
