Refrigerator Light

Chapter 4 

The lights were bright and dazzling.

The street was crowded and noisy.

The air was cold and breezy.

His hand was warm and comfortable.

I seem to notice everything around me and yet I can't look him in the eye. I simply stay focused on the path ahead of me. Honestly, I don't think it's the part where I haven't studied a single word for the past 10 hours. Maybe it's those words that came out of his mouth.

I don't think it's the word either, it seems like it's the way he said it.

"Date,huh?"

I shake my head. Don't think about it Uraraka. It's nothing. I mean why would anything be of meaning that comes out of his mouth? Look you are just bothered that for some reason this day have been bugged by Katsuki Bakuguo. I don't think it's just today really. It has been like this since the Sports Festival. Something about him, the way he didn't push back? Or how he acknowledged me? It was.....

Different.

"Would you like some takoyaki?"

It wasn't warm or comfortable. It was more like...

Electric.

"Uraraka-chan?"

"EH?!"

"Is everything alright?" Deku said worriedly.

"Ah!! I'm sorry Deku-kun. I was just... uhmmm... appreciating the LIGHTS! Hehehe" I said while rubbing the nape of my neck.

"Oh! Nothing to apologize for Uraraka-chan. The lights are beautiful indeed."

Ahhhhhh that smile. That smile always gets me. Why am I even thinking about that savage blonde anyway? Haist. This is my date. I have to enjoy this.

I looked at him straight in the eyes for the first time today and smiled sheepishly. I moved closer to him taking his right with my right almost pushing myself into him. He was a little surprised by this but he just let me be.

"I would love some takoyaki."

"Oh! I didn't notice the time anymore" Deku said suddenly.

"Why? Is it that late already?"

I looked at my watch when I saw the short hand on the 10th dot.

"Mhhhmmmmm, it's 10 already huh? 10, 10, 10, 10, 10." I start muttering.

"Waaaaahhhh!! It's 10 aready??!! I jumped.

I can't believe this! I said to myself I'd go back at least by 8 so that I can still study for even just an hour. But it's already 10? For some reason this day has been filled with shocking news on how time flies so fast in different ways.

"Do you have something to do Uraraka-chan? If you want we can go back now."

"Ah, well, I kinda do Deku-kun. I'm really sorry." I said while looking at the ground.

"Mhhmmn. No need. Today was really amazing after all. Let's not ruin it in a foul mood. Hehehe."

"Yep! That's right. Let's do this again soon." I said with a big grin on my face. I can't wait to do this again with Deku-kun. Especially that summer will come soon and we will have a lot of free time. I just have to pass. That's it Uraraka! Find motivation!

"C'mon. Let's go back."

I simply smiled back at him.

Sitting back down my desk I let out a sigh.

Fidgeting my hand, leaving taps on the floor, now tapping the desk and stood up from the chair.

Yep, I should study. It's 10:20. I still have more time to spare until midnight. I just got to concentrate give it my all and do this. If I don't start now I don't know when. Tomorrow? Then what I get distracted again or something? I can't keep delaying this. I got to start this. Don't think of stupid Blonde haired guys or other stuff that can be a distraction. Wait do I think of him as a distraction?

Woah! Woah! Hold it Uraraka! Nobody is a distraction. Just a surprise. Yes a balloon exploding in the air type of surprise. You know what, just don't bother with him too much. I mean nothing good will happen anyway.

"Let's do this Uraraka!!"

I took the book again stared at the cover and went back on the topic I was reading earlier this afternoon.

All I see is some scribbled words with pictures on the side.

*takes deep breath

"Concentrate Uraraka. Seriously"

I feel like I have been scanning this book for hours. I just want it to be midnight already just to have an excuse to do this tomorrow but at the same time I know I'm just wasting time.

"You already had a sweet time with Deku-kun. Isn't that enough?

BE MOTIVATED. BE MOTIVATED. BE MOTIVATED.

I repeated those words like a chant over and over again until I forgot the meaning of the word.

"I need a drink."

I stood up from my seat and headed down the kitchen. I took my steps lighter than usual so that I wouldn't be able to wake anyone at this time of the night. The silence in this lobby is quite deafening now that nobody is here. The lights were shut so it's quite a maze going to the refrigerator trying my best not to trip over.

*Clank

The refrigerator light gave quite a life in the lobby. I crouched down to see which drink I would get. There seems to be quite an option. There are bottled water, canned sodas, orange juice and some herbal or healthy juices.

"Maybe I'll get orange... oh there's still coffee... and cinnamon?"

I grabbed the canned coffee slowly standing up so that I don't hit my head anywhere. When I was about to close the refrigerator I noticed there seems to be a still life a few feet away from me. Holding a towel in his shoulder drinking some kind of energy drink and red eyes too clear in this light. Both of us remained unfazed staring at each other my mouth hanging a little.

Out of all the humans in this world, no, just out of all my classmates why does it have to be him. Is this day like favored to him or something? It's 11! I should have went down by midnight. Maybe with that, this spell would be broken or something. But there's no going back. We are here now. Wait, why am I even overthinking about this? It's just a coincidence. Nothing more. And it's not like we have to talk. I just have to shut this refrigerator and go back to my room then safe. Yes safe indeed. I just have to walk out here and be polite.

I took my gaze out of his and blinked more than I needed. I slowly closed the refrigerator when he suddenly grabs it.

"I'm just going to put back my drink." He whispered, his voice almost cracking with its roughness. He looked me in the eye while slowly putting the drink on one of the compartment not leaving my gaze not until he was sure he was able to put the drink on the right place. When he stepped back a little I let out a breath. I can't believe I have been holding my breath for that long. We stand there once again just looking at each other. His hand still holding on the top of the door and mine just about beside his. His gaze started going somewhere almost circling the room his mouth opens and close trying to utter some words, I think.

I wonder if he wants to say something to me.

I should probably go ahead now.

"It's quite late." He said suddenly almost catching up to me.

"Ah...hhh... yeah i-it is." It feels like a lump has formed in my throat without me knowing it. I couldn't even speak those words right.

"Hard time sleeping too?" he continued.

Too?

"Ahh, no, not really. Just uhmm... doing... ahh... finishing something." Keep it together Uraraka.

"Ahh, I see." he whispered.

"You should finish it fast. It's not good to stay up too late." He continued.

Is this some sort of today Bakuguo magic? So different.

"Yeah, I will."

I was about to close the refrigerator door when...

"It's alright, I'll leave it open for a while so that you don't have to crawl your way back to your room." He said with a smirk.

*thump

Woah! What was that?! Calm down Uraraka. It's just the atmosphere.

"A-alright. Thanks."

I started walking away from him then...

"Oh! By the way! Don't forget to study for physics. We have a quiz on Monday."

His words made me stop on my way turning back to him.

"Wait. What?! Is that true Bakuguo-kun?!" I immediately ran to him.

"Oi! Keep your mouth shut round face." He said instantly putting his hand on my mouth.

He lets out a sigh and slowly putting his hand away.

"Don't you have to raise your grades in Physics? I overheard you and Ai-"

"Waahh!! How did you know?! Wait a minute, *sniff *sniff

"CINNAMON AND GUNPOWDER!! YOU OVERHEARD US!!."

"I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT IDIOT!!" He snapped.

"Ah, sorry Bakuguo-kun." Biting my lower lip while looking down.

He tilted his head trying to get my gaze.

*Sigh

"Do you need my help?" he asked softly.

I immediately looked up to him a little wide eyed with the gesture. Bakuguo is willing to help me? Me? But why?

"So?"

"Yeah." I muttered.

"Yeah, youuuu need my help?" he said with a confused face.

*sigh

"Can't you say things a little more clearly round face?" shifting his balance to his right leg.

"Please help me." I pleaded.

What am I doing? Am I really asking him for help? Maybe it was how he looked at me. There weren't any intention to mock or judge me but just saving. Is this how victims look at their heroes? Eyes that can fill you with hope?

*sigh

"Took you long enough." He said giving a 

Wait? Is that a smile? Is it really? I don't think it's fair to give a smile in this dark room with a faint light. 

*thump *thump

Calm down Uraraka. Calm down.

"Sorry. Ah! But Bakuguo-kun. Please don't tell this to Deku-kun."

"Look, I don't have much time to tell Deku his little girlfriend needs a little tutoring. So don't worry too much about that." He chided.

"Yeah, just, you know. Everything is clear." I whispered.

"Go to sleep now."

"Eh? But!"

"Look, you're tired already. Nothing will come out if we start tonight. It seems like you have been struggling the whole day already so just take a break. Let's meet here again tomorrow."

"Can we meet around 10?" I requested.

"Wouldn't that be a little too late? He retorted.

"No, I think it's better if everyone is asleep already."

Sure Uraraka, find more alone time.

*sigh

"Alright, alright. Go ahead now. I'll hold this door for a little while longer." His head moving to direction on my room.

"Ah yes. Good night then."

"Night."

I looked at him one last time then headed to my room.

I can't believe it. Bakuguo just became my tutor. Out of everyone. It's Bakuguo Katsuki. What just happened there? Is this day really favored to him?

*shakes head

I lay down on my bed looking at the ceiling remembering those red eyes beyond that light. Stop thinking about it Uraraka. It's just the dark.

Yeah, it's just the refrigerator light. Nothing else. Nothing more.
