You Can't Break Me
20:04, 17 May 2014A sharp pain flooded Raven's head. She tried to reach her hand up , but it wouldn't move. Where am I, she thought as a cough escaped her lips. It was pitch black, too dark for even her liking. The room smelled musty, like a basement. She opened her mouth to speak, but before a single sound came out, a light turned on. Not a very bright one, but bright enough for Raven to see what she was on. She was strapped to an operating table, metal restraints keeping her in place. Her cloak was gone, but everything else was there. Still, she felt naked in the cold room. The table was at an angle, so it looked as if she were standing. A chair sat across from her, no one inhabiting it at the time. Somewhere in the distance, Raven heard a door open or close, she couldn't tell. Then she heard a pair of faint footsteps, each step getting louder. Soon enough, a masked figure slid himself into the chair, hands clasped. It only took Raven a second to realize who this person was. "Slade." She narrowed her eyes, trying her best to look intimidating. He didn't even flinch. "What do you want?" Her words were covered in a thick layer of ice. He looked her in the eye, and calmly said, "Dear Raven, I see you have awakened." His hands unclasped as he stood up, and moved them to behind his back. Raven continued her stare, and just as calmly as him, she said, "Slade, what do you want with me?" It was more of a statement than a question. "I'll keep this short little Raven, I need answers. Answers that only you can give me. You see, I've been following Robin around for 3 months, watching his every move, hoping to get enough clues to who he is under the mask. But as you know, he us very good at hiding things. I see a connection between you two, and I realized, that if I asked you, I could get these answers. So, Raven, what is the true identity of Robin?" He was in her face now, his mask only inches from her skin. Raven still held her gaze, and after a few moments, responded with," I wouldn't give you the answers even if it meant me staying alive." He nodded ever so slightly and took something out of his pocket. She saw a glint of metal, and her breath caught in her throat. A knife. Slade pressed the sharp object against her pale skin, and slowly said to her, "Why Raven, it does mean staying alive. This is life or death. And I am sure you would rather choose life over your name on a tombstone." She gulped as she chose her next words. "Try me." The knife pressed into her cheek, and she let out a scream that could shatter your eardrums. While screaming, she silently said to herself, Stay strong Raven, stay strong, for Robin.
