A/N:So this was a really hard chapter to write. Honestly, I cried a little writing the ending. There is only two chapters left before this book is finally finished. I want to apologize for all the mistakes and errors beforehand. Also since this book is coming to an end soon I want to hear from you guys about what you want me to write about next. I've had a couple of ideas shared with me already, but I'd really like to hear more from you guys. Don't be shy to share your ideas with me. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. Rey's POV:
Breathe. Just breathe. If you die today you'll die being brave. You'll go down as every other Jedi who ever lived. Your death will be another sacrifice in order to protect the only part of the galaxy that remained good. You will not die in vain. Your death will not be due to your weakness, but to the unimaginative courage you hold. If you live you'll be viewed as a hero, as the savior of the Resistance. I can do this. I will not fail, not today. It was time to let my thoughts filled with rage take control and hide my heart in the deepest corner of my body. Just breathe.
"Rey you're shaking." Luke took a hold of both my shoulders and blankly stared into my eyes. His expression gave me no hints of the thoughts that roamed in his mind. "You can't do this Rey. You can't kill for vengeance, it's not right. It's not the way of the Jedi."
I backed as far as possible from him until I was left in the middle of thousands of laser shots going off everywhere. I gripped my lightsaber closely to my side, ready to activate it in any moment.
"Rey please I'm begging you, don't submit to the dark ways. Let me help you." He stretched out his hand for me to take. His eyes were pleading me to see reason, but it was too late now.
"I have to finish this or I'll live with this resentment and pain forever."
The first troops of the First Order set foot on land and immediately began shooting innocent men,women, and children. I have him one last apologetic, before sprinting off to help those in danger.
I slashed, struck, and robbed the lives of every Stormtrooper that came my way. I was past the point of no return.
I was lost forever.
The single blue light of my blade was the I my thing I concentrated on besides the noise of every dead body dropping.
1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10.
One after one they fell.
Once I finally regained my ability of sight I took notice of the lives lost and the fallen ships. Tides of people lay dead along with the waves of Stormtroopers who died not knowing anything besides being controlled by an oppressive society. Hundreds still remained fighting on both air and land, fighting for the only thing they had left.
I stopped for one quick second. That one second was enough to realize the number of deaths I was responsible for Luke,on the other hand, fought long and hard to protect the people he once called friends and family. He never took a life. Few he actually harmed but never to the point were they lay on the brink of death. He was a better person than I would ever become. He tried so hard to bring me to the light, but ultimately I had failed him.
His green light shimmered bright amongst the red stained shots being fired. He was the good in this world. The only way I thought of apologizing and thanking him was helping save the lives of the people he cared. Together Chewie and I rescued the survivors, he pulled them out from under the fallen pieces of metal while I blocked any shots directed our way. Explosions began setting off and it became harder in saving the those injured. We picked up our pace and began ordering people to take cover.
Finn was on the opposite direction aiding Poe in bringing him back into flight. His jacket held small burnt pieces of leather from the fires caused by the explosives. I was afraid one would hit them in any moment. I wanted to rush over to him and protect him, but at the same time I wanted to find Kylo.
Halfway through our rescuing, I felt his presence, it grew nearer as every second past by. He was here. I turned and turned looking everywhere for him, but he seemed to stow away behind the shadows. My body froze as soon as he appeared behind one of the largest fires. He wore the same black clothes and his face was once again coveted my the mask he used to often wear. I wanted to see his brown chocolate eyes and his pale skin being illuminated by the light of the fire. The crackling of the fire synced with the harsh footsteps he took as he came closer and closer towards me. Kill him Rey, this was the moment you were waiting for. I couldn't move, just seeing him made my heart beat a millions times faster and replace itself in control of body. I still had my lightsaber in hand, but I couldn't bring upon myself to strike him.
"Rey!!!". Finn shouted. I turned my face to look at him and sure enough he was all ready running towards me as if I needed protection.
I was now positioned in between both of them. Finn started at me with a fearful expression and Kylo remained unspoken. I looked back and forth between the both of them, while they just stared at one another with hate. Finn had built a grudge towards Kylo because of the injuries he had inflicted upon him, but Kylo also held a grudge towards him for betraying the First Order and escaping with a pilot of the Resistance.
"Rey run!" Finn called to me. I should've done as he said, but I was too stubborn.
I stood there alongside the man I loved with so much intensity and the man I held great admiration and brotherly love for.
Kylo then did the unexpected. He removed his mask and smashed it against the ground until it scattered into pieces. There were tears streaming down his face as he kneeled and rested his arms on his sides.
"Rey...," he whispered into the wind.
From the corner of my eyes I could see Finn raising his gun to shoot at Kylo. I swiftly intervened and moved in front of the gun and knocking it out of his hands .
"No.." Finn's shocked eyes matched the way I currently felt. Luke's words replayed in my mind,"You can't kill for vengeance, it's not right. It's not the way of the Jedi."
"Rey he killed Solo he deserves to die. You said so yourself you wanted to be the one to kill him."
"Rey please listen to me," Kylo begged on his knees. "I know I'm probably the last person you want to see, but please let me explain. "
I said nothing. I was too afraid my voice would break. Finn's eyes looked at me in disbelief as he wanted an explanation as well.
"What Hux told you wasn't true Rey," Kylo continued. "He knew by tearing you away from me would only destroy me. I never was going to go along with Snoke's plans, you and I were going to run off to be together where no one else could find us."
"Is true Rey?," Finn queried. "You were going to ran away with him! You weren't going to come back!"
"I...I.." I tried to defend myself, but words failed to come out of my mouth.
"Rey I know that deep down you believe. Since you've returned into my life I've done nothing but change to be good enough for you. I knew there was a hope in returning me to the light, but I was too afraid to admit. But you Rey, you taught me to be brave, to fight for what I want. To not give up. You've brought me closer to the light than anyone else. I need you Rey and I know you need me to. I know how much you despise being alone, being abandoned leaves a scar. I've seen every scar on you, I know the pain you've endured and you don't have to keep living that way. We were meant for each other. The dark is always attracted to the light and for me you are my light."
I was trembling, the release of so many emotions and feelings sent shivers constantly down my spine. I felt as I were being electrocuted by a thousand lightning bolts.
"You've murdered hundreds including your own father, a man who loved you unconditionally." I burst in tears.
"I know and you don't know how much I regret all of my horrible actions, but that's in the past now. I can't reverse time and take back my actions. I'll always live with the guilt and regret, but if the only way I can me with you is by enduring this torture then I'll take it. I'll do anything you ask me."
"How do I know you're not lying to me. For all I know this could be a trap to kill me."
"I know I'm a killer, but I would never harm you Rey. I love you." He tried stepping closer towards me, but I only backed away.
"What happened to Hux?" I questioned.
He remained quiet. His silence was enough for me to obtain my answer.
"I killed him... I-I'm sorry Rey I couldn't control myself. If if weren't for him I'd still have you."
Ashes floated through the thick air, surrounding Finn, Kylo and I for the last time.
"I want to trust you but I just cant," I sobbed.
"Then let me prove my trust to you." He pulled out his lightsaber from his waist and grasped for my hand, placing his most prized possession in my hands and realising it. He knew how large of a symbol of trust this was for me. I shuddered at its cold touch and metallic parts. He didn't show an sign indicating he was uncomfortable at all. My eyes froze on his as I carried his weapon in the palm of hands. I studied each piece of it. It was constructed neatly with a each piece belonging in its rightful place. I attempted returning his lightsaber back, but he insisted I kept it. Pairs of eyes from every corner began to set on us. One by one defendants of each side stopped and took notice of the event occurring between Kylo and I.
Stormtroopers of the First Order, dropped their weapons and removed their helmets to get a view of the man they once feared surrendering to the Resistance. Luke alongside of General Organa witnessed their nephew and son returning home for the first time in ages.
His touch, his presence, and the smooth gone in his voice where enough to make me forget of the hate and remorse I built for him. At the end of the day I loved him more than anything else. Finn, though, did not remain quiet or discrete with his feelings. He swiftly took a hold of my lightsaber hanging off my waist and struck Kylo, slicing a deep cut into his left shoulder.
"You stupid coward," he shouted at the top of his lungs. "Rey might not be able to see it, but I can still see straight though you.."
Kylo fell back from the impact and covered the burn with his hand trying his best to hold a yelp back. He avoided the second strike Finn was sending down in him.
"Finn stop! I'm begging you please don't kill him!" I shrieked at the top of my lungs.
Finn was reluctant to stop and simply pretended he never heard anything from me. I threw Kylo his lightsaber in hopes he could defend himself. Sure enough he ignited it and held it straight across from him to protect himself.
"Finn I don't want to hurt you," Kylo gently spoke.
"No, but I do!"
Finn furiously attacked Kylo, aiming to hit any part of him he could. Time after time Kylo did his best to defend himself and avoided harming Finn. Everyone's eyes were transfixed on them, they all leaned forward to find out who would be victorious. I wanted to intervene and stop them from killing each other.
"You called me a traitor for leaving the First Order, but I bet you're disobeying Snoke's orders right now."
Kylo's balance was weary and it also worsened when Finn caught him off guard. Finn had the upper hand and he sure wasn't going to back down from this fight.
"Enough Finn." Again he ignored my pleads.
I found Luke in between the crowds and mouthed to him to do something. Anything. He avoided by glare. His own sister had her hands tightly enveloping his, probably asking for the same thing I was. Why did he just stand there. It was his nephew.
"I warned you." Kylo finally struck back continuously bashing him and few times cutting through his skin. Finn's screams ringed in my ears.
Back and forth they dueled, neither one showed any sign of giving up anytime soon. This anxiety was killing me. I didn't want to lose either one of them. Please, please let them come to their senses.
Then it hit me. This was all my fault. If I had never fallen in love with Kylo this wouldn't have happened. If I had just escaped from the beginning they wouldn't be dueling until one of them was killed. I shouldn't have been involved in any of this from the beginning. Curiosity killed the cat.
Before my eyes had any time to adjust, Kylo was lying on the ground and Finn had the upper hand. Finn had both lightsabers in his grip placing them mere inches from Kylo's chest. Oh god no.
"Any last words, before I shove these two up that black hole you call a heart."
I no longer saw Kylo, but Ben. My Ben. He was looking at me with eyes full of sorrow. He was saying goodbye.
No he couldn't, not yet.
Finn rose both weapons preparing to plunge them into him. I didn't allow it though.
I had sprinted just in time to save Kylo from being killed. Instead of landing in him, they went across me.
The last thing I heard before everything went black was Ben calling my name.
