Attack on Titan: Linda's Story Part 3

It was an ordinary day today. It was like any other today. But nothing could have prepared us for what happened today.

I had helped my mother with her gardening today, I said ‘bye’ to my dad who was about to check on a patient and I hurried off to find Ryan and Andreas.

The two could be found together all the time nowadays.

When I first met Ryan he seemed timid and shy. But not anymore, he’s changed a lot since then. He was no longer timid, he was calm. He was no longer shy and  could be seen talking and getting along with almost anybody.

Both me and Andreas were proud of him.

Andreas however, hasn’t changed much. He was the same old Andreas we got to know.

And me….I suppose at the time I hadn’t changed much either.

I found Ryan today and surprisingly, Andreas wasn’t there with him.

“um...Ryan, where's Andreas today, do you know?” I asked him.

“No, not really. I couldn’t find him at his house so im guessing he might be with his father.” Ryan mentions.

“Yeah, its not really that hard imagining him with his father right now.” I smile back.

The day has flown by. Ryan helped me get groceries for my mom and dad and afterwards, we decided to look around for Andreas more. We really couldn’t find him anywhere. Should we be worried?

But before anything more could happen there was a giant earthquake that shook the earth. It was so violent, it caused Ryan to fall down quite hard. I managed to stay on my feet.

“Ryan! Are you ok?” I bent down towards him, concern. When it comes to getting hit or falling over, just getting physically hurt in general, Ryan can be quite sensitive to pain.

“Y-Yeah, I think so. But what was that?”

We saw people hurrying to the border of the walls. From up above we could see clouds of smoke hovering above.

What happened? Was there an explosion that took place up there? But it was so powerful, it couldn’t have been an explosion alone. But it is possible.

We went along with the crowd and we could see a gigantic hand gripping the wall.

What the hell….

We watched longer and eventually a shadow began to loom over us. A head of a skinless giant peeked over our 50 meter high wall….it was a titan-!!

Titan’s are humanoid giants who appeared a long time ago. The first time they appeared, they nearly wiped out humanity in a single night. The remaining survivors withdrew inside wall Maria, Rose and Sina, spending many years of uneasy peace.

When did humanity even have the time to build three massive 50 meter high walls? I have no idea. It’s just been something we have lived inside for years to avoid extinction.

Titan’s are giants who resemble humans and they eat nothing but humans. They ignore any other life found outside the walls. They don’t need to eat anything to survive, but they eat us anyways. Perhaps its for the pleasure? We really don’t know much concerning the titans however, so we can mainly just take guesses.

But this Titan had to been the tallest seen in history so far. It managed to peek its head over a 50 meter high wall. And after that...it took a massive kick into the wall once it managed to lift up its huge leg, and massive broken pieces to the wall smashed into both big and small bits, destroying houses, buildings and killing anyone laying in its path.

There was also a hole smashed into the wall and smaller titans began to slowly walk inside. Upon seeing us, the Titans began to eat nearly all humans in sight.

Both me and Ryan managed to flee to the boats. They would take the citizens into wall Rose. by time we reached the boats, both mine and Ryan’s parents were already there.

My parents were on the same boat me and Ryan were on. Ryan’s was on another boat, right behind ours.

He waved over to them, and they waved back and he felt relieved that they were ok. But he wasn't completely relieved….

“W-Wh….where's….Andreas?” Ryan glanced over to me with a scared look on his eyes.

Oh god….no….

Andreas wasn’t here?

I looked around and saw him nowhere in sight.

“M-Maybe...he managed to make it to one of the other boats but we just can't see him.” I explained to Ryan.

“Y-Yeah! Y-your right...he has to be.”

But seconds later we both spotted Andreas. He was walking onto our boat.

“Andreas! Are you ok?” Ryan went over and greeted him.

Andreas immediately crashed onto the ground, sobbing and crying hard.

Oh no….what happened?

We never saw Andreas break down into such emotion before. He was usually calm, cold and didn’t let anything hurt or bother him. But this….this time was different. This couldn’t have been good.

Later on he told us what happened. He was searching for his father and sister after witnessing the attack of the Collosal titan. He managed to find his father, he was escorting a girl to the boats. But he got snatched by a titan and was eaten.

As for his sister, she was also eaten by a titan. Both deaths he saw with his own eyes. it sounds terrible...I can’t even imagine going through what Andreas did.

But once we reached the docks at wall Rose, when we got off the boat, Andrea’s mother started to hurry over.

She asked if Andreas was alright and was about to reach out for him but he violently slapped her in the face and screamed at her.

“WHY?!! WHY WEREN'T YOU WITH ANABEL YOU BITCH!?!! SHE DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!! WHY WEREN'T YOU WITH HER!?!?”

Tears streamed down his face during this moment.

Ever since then, Andreas has treated his mother coldly and blamed her for the death of his little sister while he blamed himself for the death of his fathers.

After what happened, Ryan’s family managed to work enough to get a home along with my parents. We both were no longer orphans.

Andreas and his mother couldn’t afford one, so Ryan’s family warmly welcomed the two in for now.

Ever since then, everything changed.

My dream of becoming an gardener changed. Instead I wanted to join the Garrison. I felt I had to do my part in protecting the people I love from a disaster like this happening again. I want to help others and do my part for humanity. I want to make sure that events like what happened to both Andreas’s father and sister during the attack of the Colossal titan doesn't ever happen again.

I doubt I would score well enough in my training to become part of the Military police, and the scouts is just plain stupid so I’ll just settle for the Garrison.

Only the top ten in training to become soldiers could join and apply for the Military police regiment.

As for the scouts, they are people whom once or twice a month, heads on expeditions outside the walls to fight titans.

That's suicidal and they never accomplish nothing by heading outside, so no thank you.

I wanted to join the Garrison, Ryan wanted to join the Military police and Andreas had his goal set on the scouts.

Both me and Andreas were shocked.

Its been his dream since he was a child to join the Garrison. He wanted to become somebody like his father.

But now it seems like he’s fed up on hatred towards the titans and he simply just wants revenge. I hope there's more to it than just that because if he’s only in it just to kill titans until he’s the one who gets killed….I would have failed at keeping his safe.

But this is our choice.

Andreas seems to have changed completely ever since the attack of the Collosal titan. But it seems like nothing will alter his mind on changing his path.

All of us are splitting apart. We are all growing older, going down our own paths. I at least hope that Andreas will go down a road he wants to take and not one he will regret...
