Green and Gold

21:59, 4 August 2021

Florence decided to postpone the 'talk' with Ginny for a while. They both had a lot going on in other aspects of their lives and Florence had a tiny bit of hope left that she was holding onto that Ginny would tell her family once the Quidditch season ends. Which was tonight.

Ginny had been feeling giddy, nervous, irritated, sad, then guilty about being irritated and picking a fight and then all giddy again for three days straight. Florence tried everything to make sure Ginny was well-rested for the big, final game of the season, but Ginny was either jumping around the flat or trying to pick a fight with her, which didn't make it easy. But it was nothing Florence couldn't handle.

The Holyhead Harpies were playing against Puddlemere United in the finale of the British and Irish Quidditch League. Puddlemere United and the Holyhead Harpies were known rivals and this would be the game of the year. The Harpies hadn't won in years. Last year they had come in fourth but this year they had a chance to win. Ginny needed to win.

Florence was ready, dressed in a green and gold Holyhead Harpies shirt, her favourite mom jeans and black vans. She had green stripes on her cheeks and golden eyeliner on. On the ends of each of the two cornrow braids Angelina Johnson had made in her hair two days ago, a golden ribbon was tied into a small bow. She held a Holyhead Harpies flag ready in her hands.

Ginny stumbled out of the bathroom, her mind already on the field instead of on whatever she had been doing in there. Florence turned around to her, a worried gaze in her eyes. She knew Ginny sometimes sicked before a game due to her nerves and she didn't want Ginny to feel that stressed though it seemed inevitable.

However, when Ginny looked at her, the twinkle in her eyes returned and her lips formed into the smile that Florence loved so much.

"Holy fuck," Ginny gasped, walking over to her and smoothly sliding her arms around Florence's hips. Ginny was only two inches taller than Florence but she liked to pretend like she was over 6 feet instead of her actual 5'7. "You look good in green and gold." She nipped at the small of Florence's neck and Florence could feel the blood rush to her cheeks.

"Maybe you should let me on the team then," she teased. Ginny chuckled and pressed a kiss on her cheek.

"Never in a million years. I've seen you on a broomstick and... let's just keep it at no," she said, giving her hips a squeeze before letting her hands slide down to her bum. "But I will ask you to keep the shirt on tonight... only the shirt. And not so much ask as order you too," Ginny whispered that last sentence in her ear, making shivers go down her spine.

Having Ginny in bed after a match - especially after they won - always sent Florence to a realm full of bliss, overwhelming pleasure and euphoria.

"You're acting like this is the first time you've seen me in a Holyhead Harpies shirt," Florence chuckled. Ginny smirked and gave her a peck on her lips.

"That's because every time I see you in it, it feels like the first time," Ginny told her. "Cheer for me tonight, yeah?"

"As loudly as I always do." Florence kissed her deeply this time before letting go of her again. Ginny smiled at her before disappearing into the bedroom to grab her last few things.

Florence was disappointed that in case of a victory - which she was rooting hard for - she would not be able - or allowed - to run onto the field to greet Ginny with a hug and kiss. But at least they could celebrate it afterwards together. Right now what mattered most to her was that Ginny would come home with the biggest smile on her face.

She waited for Ginny to finish and together they apparated to the venue. They were playing at the Holyhead Harpies's stadium in Wales. There were already queues of people waiting to enter the stadium to watch the big finale live. Florence walked to the dressing rooms with Ginny. She got a special pass and one of the best seats, just like every partner and close family member of the team.

"Good luck," Florence told Ginny in front of the dressing room, cupping her face in her hands. "You can do this. You can win this. I know you can. You're the best Chaser the world has ever seen. I'm proud of you and I love you and I'm proud of you and I'm going to be shouting your name all night, cheering you on."

"I'll make sure you will scream my name all night," Ginny smirked. Florence laughed and rolled her eyes.

"Now is not the time, Gin!" Florence exclaimed. Ginny hugged her tightly and Florence closed her eyes for a moment. "I love you so much," she whispered. Ginny hugged her a little tighter.

"I love you so much too," she whispered back. "I'll win. For you."

"I know you will," Florence said, pushing a strand of Ginny's bright red hair behind her ear. "You got this, alright? Flo and Gin for the win."

"Flo and Gin for the win," Ginny smirked, kissing her one last time before diving into the dressing room. Florence walked back up the stairs, escorted by a bodyguard. She got guided to her seat and sat down next to a girl with bushy brown curls who was sitting next to - Oh no.

"Florence! Hi!" Hermione said happily, giving her a short hug. Florence smiled and hugged her back. "Looking good in green," she compliments her. Florence let out a chuckle and nodded.

"Thank you, Hermione. Are you here with the Weasleys?" she asked, acting as if Ginny hadn't been telling her about how her whole family was coming to show their support, including her brother Charlie who lived in Romania.

"Yes!" she said, lifting up her and Ron's hands which were intertwined. Ron waved at her with his other hand before turning back to his brother who Florence recognized to be Bill Weasley. "What about you? How did you get VIP tickets?"

Oh, I'm Ginny's girlfriend. That's why, she thought to herself. "I designed the new logo a year and a half ago. They promised me VIP for the rest of my life," she said, quickly making up an excuse. Hermione nodded.

"Big fan then?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah! Big fan. Uhu. Definitely," she lied. Florence liked Quidditch and she loved watching Ginny play but was she a big fan of the sport? Not at all. It was a miracle she knew the difference between Bludgers, the Quaffle and the Snitch.

"Great! I had a lot of fun the other week," Hermione said, bringing up the week before when they had invited their friends over - or well, Ginny had invited her friends over.

"Me too, it was good to see you," Florence agreed. Florence had been in the same year as Hermione, Ron and the famous Harry Potter during her Hogwarts years. She hadn't been that involved with them but they were friendly. She got along well with Hermione, but she felts a great barrier between them because she had to hide her relationship from Hermione and she was a very open person.

"Ah! Florence!" she heard a familiar voice behind her. She turned around and saw Angelina climb over a bunch of Weasleys towards her way. "You've made it! Good to see you, love!"

Angelina and Florence had only grown close the past year. Angelina had been two years above her during their Hogwarts years. Ginny and Angelina had been great friends ever since they bonded over their Quidditch Careers and Angelina and so she had met her through Ginny. Angelina and Florence hit it off right away.

Angelina did in fact know about Florence and Ginny. Angelina, however, was practically a Weasley too. She recently got engaged to Fred and though she had been in a relationship before Ginny and Florence got into a relationship, she still knew. It hadn't even been Florence who had slipped up.

Ginny had gotten drunk when they were hanging out with Angelina, Alicia and Luna and confirmed their relationship before begging Angelina to promise not to tell Fred. For a second Florence had been scared Ginny would try to get Angelina to make an unbreakable vow, but she hadn't, thank Merlin.

"Good to see you too, Ange!" Florence said, giving her friend a hug. Sometimes Florence felt bummed that she hadn't been hanging out with these people during her Hogwarts years but then she shook that off and focused on the fact that what mattered most was that they were friends now.

"Braids are looking fantastic," Angelina said, pulling on one of them gently. She was admiring her own work and Florence let her; they truly were fantastic.

"Thank you so much for helping me out, Ange," Florence said. Hermione looked at them with a curious gaze. "I need a change and my usual hairdresser is out of town for a while because of some family issues. Angelina told me that she knows how to do cornrows so she helped me out."

"I can do your hair too some time, 'Mione!" Angelina said happily. Hermione's face lit up.

"That would be really cool!" the girl said happily. Angelina nodded and let go of Florence's braid.

"Are you gonna have drinks with us after the game?" Angelina asked her. "Lee, George, Fred, Ron and some others are going. Ginny too, unless she's out partying with her team of course." Ginny probably had the most VIP tickets to distribute.

She had a total of six older brothers; Ron, George, Fred, Percy, Charlie and Bill. Ron was together with Hermione, George was single but brought Lee Jordan everywhere - Lee was basically a brother to Ginny as well - Fred was seeing Angelina, Percy was married to Audrey, and Bill was married to Fleur Delacour and had a young child names Victoire. Harry was practically family too so he had shown up as well. And then of course her parents. And well, Florence. Sixteen VIP tickets just for Ginny.

"Depends, I'll let you know," Florence said, fidgeting with the green flag in her hands. Angelina nodded, giving her an understanding smile before hurrying back to her seat. The venue filled itself with Harpie and Puddlemere fans. One side of the venue was green and gold and the other navy blue and gold.

Florence leaned back in her chair, looking over the venue. This was the place where she had met Ginny - after Hogwarts at least. She had known Ginny, of course, not personally but as mutual-Hogwarts students. A Weasley was hard to miss at Hogwarts, especially a Weasley who dated the 'Boy-Who-Lived' aka Harry Potter.

A year and a half ago, Florence had been asked to design a new logo, new posters and just to work on the whole creative side of the new Holyhead Harpies campaign. She had a meeting with the captain, Gwenog Jones and their manager Wilda Griffiths. By accident, Ginny had marched into the meeting.

She had of course hurried off again but when Florence left the meeting half an hour later, Ginny was waiting outside the venue. She had gone up to Florence and asked "You're Florence Peakes right? The girl who made those comics to make fun of Snape during her Sixth year?"

She was, obviously, that girl and the two of them had started chatting. They talked a little about what they were doing now and eventually, Ginny had asked her out for drinks. Florence had thought it was a date, Ginny had hoped but feared to put a label on it. After that first 'date', Florence had asked her out on a second date, this time dropping the actual word. Ginny had said yes immediately.

After the second date, a third followed rather quickly. And a fourth. And a fifth. And on the fifth date, Ginny confessed she wasn't out. Florence didn't mind to Ginny's surprise. It took them five months to confirm to each other that they were in a relationship. Now they had been together for a year and a month and Florence was happy. So happy.

So happy to be sitting next to Ginny's family without them knowing that later that evening Ginny would be ripping off her- well, easier said; without them knowing that she was Ginny's girlfriend.

It took about forty-five minutes before both teams made their entrance onto the field. Ginny looked around, stopping when her eyes landed on Florence. Her lips curved into a smile and Florence 'Whoo'd' along with the rest of the stadium. Ginny's eyes went wide as she noticed who Florence was sitting next to but then regained her focus and looked forward. Florence could see her jaw tighten, even from the distance.

The game started strong and remained that throughout the whole match. Ginny was fierce on her broomstick, scoring goals left and right. The competition was strong too and the score remained dangerously close. Whoever caught the Snitch would win.

Whenever Ginny had the Quaffle, the whole Weasley clan would jump up and Florence fit right in. Her screams were nowhere as loud as Ginny's brother's roars so she did not have to back down at all.

Ginny scored yet another goal and the Weasley family rose from their seats again, cheering on their daughter, sister and sister-in-law (to be). Florence jumped up too, screaming at the top of her lungs.

"WEASLEY! WEASLEY! WEASLEY!" the green side of the stadium cheered. Florence felt all warm inside as she watched Ginny. Her Ginny. She was filled with pride because of her incredible athlete girlfriend who was playing one of the best games of her life.

The next goal was once against made by Puddlemere United and the scores were even. The sound of a whistle sounded and Florence's breath caught in her throat. She had no idea who caught the Snitch or where the Snitch even was as her eyes had been focused on Ginny the whole game.

She would have looked at the rest of the game but Ginny looked too damn fit playing.

"And Glynnis Lynch catches the Golden Snitch! That makes the score 370-220, bringing the Holyhead Harpies their first British and Irish Quidditch League trophy since 1932!" it sounded through the stadium.

Florence jumped up, screaming louder than she had all night and throwing her arms up in the air. The whole green side of the stadium roared with pride and joy. "Anyone with mighty good eyes sees, that victory belongs to the Holyhead Harpies!" they sang. "A team so strong as an army of lions, the Holyhead Harpies get us to triumph! With a fast speed and mighty women, we are sure the Harpies will win it!"

Florence smile faded for a split second as she saw Ginny's teammates be greeted by their partners and she was stuck on the stands but she quickly joined back into the celebration. They had won, that was the most important thing right now.

After half an hour more of celebrating in the stadium, everyone got ready to leave and continue the party elsewhere. Florence snuck back to the dressing room and waited outside for Ginny to come out. The second she did, Florence greeted her with a deep kiss.

"You won! You won! You were on fire!" Florence cheered. Ginny laughed and hugged her tightly. Florence pressed kisses all over her neck and face, filled with pride.

"I did, I did, we did," Ginny giggled. She was beaming with joy and pride. Her smile was so bright that dimples appeared on her freckled cheeks. Her eyes were sparkling and little shrieks and laughs of joy kept escaping her lips. She was glowing and it made Florence fall in love with her all over again. Dammit, Weasley.

"I'm so proud of you, Gin," Florence told her, cupping her face in her hands. Her heart skipped a beat and she brushed her thumb along Ginny's cheekbone. "So, so proud. You were brilliant. Truly brilliant." Ginny kissed her softly again and pulled her closer by her waist.

"I love you," Ginny whispered. Florence smiled and kissed her freckly nose. "I promised Fred and George I'd join them for the afterparty. I'm sure no one would mind if you tagged along." Florence smile faded slightly, but not enough for alarm bells to start ringing for Ginny. It was quite the invitation. No one would mind. Right. Great. Fantastic. Not.

"You go. I'll wait for you at home, okay? It's your family, have a fun night with them, yeah?" she said. Ginny seemed slightly disappointed but both of them knew better than to push each other's buttons about it now.

"I love you so much. I won't make it late. And you better wait up for me," Ginny said, kissing her one more time. "I still have some plans on what to do with you in this shirt." Florence chuckled and watched Ginny walk off to meet with her family. She sighed softly and apparated back to Ginny's flat.

She was still happy. She was. Really happy. But the feeling of being a secret, of needing to hide herself, was gnawing at her.
