Chapter fourteen: Animosity

Henry handed me and Evan some plastic cups with a few bottles of alcohol now surrounding us. Evan also brought his own drink which was a bottle of rum. I'll admit and say that the awkward tension was still heavy weighing down on my shoulders so I was more than excited to see the drinks being poured.

"So tell me, how are you two doing relationship wise ?" Evan asked with a forced smile "you two seem like a great pair"

Sensing some animosity I swallowed thickly and lowered my gaze to my cup which I was now swirling; the liquid moving about in small waves in an attempt of distraction.

Henry coughed awkwardly and wrapped an arm around my shoulders which made me blush "yeah, we are great. Early days but I'm very happy"

Smiling upwards towards him I nodded in agreement "yeah, me too. You're a great guy Henry"

Evan raised his eyebrows and took a sip of his drink "hmm, it's just interesting is all"

"What's so interesting ?" I scoffed with confusion "we are doing good. That's all there is to it"

Evan raised his hands up in defence "I just didn't think a relationship that started so quickly would be.. that great"

Henry chuckled and rubbed his temples briefly "love at first sight"

Almost choking on my mouthful of whisky I stared at Henry with wide eyes; inwardly wanting to crawl over and die.

Evan flickered his eyes between us and then made an 'o' shape with his mouth which confused me.

"Ahhh.. I get it now" Evan shot with a jeering tone. "You guys fucked, that's the only way I can actually understand. It's fine though that you didn't want to share the details with me"

My cheeks were boiling and I couldn't believe the very forward suggestion from Evan. He was now thinking me and Henry had slept together and he couldn't of put it in a more blatant, straight forward way.

"N-no! I'm still a virgin thanks!" I squeaked with my hands cupping my cheeks. "N-none of your business anyway"

Henry seemed to have spaced out as he wasn't speaking which made me want to run away. Even he was in disbelief by Evan's comment.

"You don't need to lie it's written all over your face" Evan stated matter o factly "suppose it's best to try the goods out early so you don't get disappointed hm?"

Chugging the rest of my drink 'unlady' like I then wiped my mouth with my sleeve. "I'm not that easy. I want my first time to be special"

Henry smiled at me awkwardly nodded "truthfully we haven't Evan. But it's kinda weird you're so.. invested by it"

"Fine, fine it was too transparent of me. I should of said that you two have made love or- maybe I should say that you're a fucking moron for jumping into things so quickly-

Sitting up onto my knees I grabbed Evan's shoulders sternly "don't be like this. Why are you being like this for?"

Evan pushed my hands away "I'm only joking about Maeve. Jesus"

Henry frowned "you weren't joking. It's clearly bothering you that me and Maeve are in a relationship"

Henry swallowed saliva and grabbed my wrist, pulling me into his chest. His fingers then pressed under my chin so I was looking at him "this girl, she is amazing and I will treat her right. I promise"

My heart was beating erratically in my chest as I stared into his bright blue eyes, I could see an ocean in them. "And I would never use or mistreat her like you're thinking I would" Henry then dropped my chin and looked at Evan with a stern expression.

"Sure okay, I get it. Now subject change would be most welcomed" Evan said flatly with no emotion. "How about we talk about something better like how drinking with you two is an absolute bore"

Scoffing I scrunched up my nose "says the person who is being an absolute idiot about the whole situation and making rude and embarrassing comments"

Henry placed his hand on my shoulder in reassurance "Evan what do I need to do for you to stop being like this with me" I pleaded

Evan lowered his gaze and sighed, the alcohol now hitting his system as his nose and cheeks pinked. "Nothing, I just want to make sure you're making the correct choices. It pisses me off that you chose him so easily when you're a sensible girl"

"She didn't choose me easily because I chose her and I will continue to choose her. You're right she is a sensible girl and a fucking amazing girl too with the most gorgeous eyes" Henry cut in sorely which made all the saliva dry in my mouth.

Evan ruffled his hair and his eyes went glassy for a split second "I'm so glad you're both happy" though I could tell how forced that came out; I knew Evan better than anyone and this really did bother him.

Henry sighed "let's put some music on shall we ? How about some Korn"

Smiling I thanked him that he was changing the subject "that would be great. Freak on a leash please" I hummed with a grin.

Henry trailed off and grabbed his Discman whilst I shuffled awkwardly on the floor with a very tense looking Evan.

"What is wrong with you?" I whispered which made Evan look at me softly.

"Maeve I- I care about you" he mumbled dryly "more than I think I should"

Blinking repeatedly I went to respond but before I could Henry was back with a wide grin "let's actually get this party started now shall we?"

Evan scoffed "I don't think Korn is gonna make me want to dance but sure- let's give it a good go"

Swatting Evan's arm playfully I responded "Korn is great. Have you even listened to this song? You'll love it"

Evan sighed "let's give it a good go then shall we"

This was going to be a long night
