Chapter 3

The fight at Harajuku had been tense. We managed to free the prisoners but it had been a close call, had either one of us made a single misstep it could have ended badly. Luckily after having had the opportunity to kill a couple of vampires my mind was soothed enough to not think about it to closely. My double sided sword staff had cut though those blood suckers as smoothly as butter, sadly none of them were in the group who had killed my old squad. We were now in a car on our way to Shinjuku, it had been peaceful for a while. I had even almost dozed off for a moment until everyone gasped in surprise, my eyes flew open immediately as I looked out the front window of the vehicle. "What the..." Yu started. There was smoke coming from behind the wall where Shinjuku is supposed to be located. Explosions could be heard further away. But that was not what had caught my attention, it was the person walking towards us further up the road. Kimizuki noticed him too and was about to break until Yu stopped him. "Don't slow down Kimizuki! Hit him! That guy is a noble!" It was hard to see the noble's face from here but I could make out enough to recognize that he was not wearing the standard vampire soldiers uniform, but instead some extravagant white uniform with a cape hanging over one shoulder, something typical for a noble. Kimizuki pushed down on the gas and the jeep flew forward. The noble seemed unfazed by the vehicle speeding towards him. To my surprise he instead reaches out his hand towards the car. "Prepare to jump" Shinoa instructed, her hand resting on the door handle. I quickly do the same on my side, I push open the car door and jump, Yoichi close behind me. As soon as I land I witness the noble taking in the force of the vehicle with his outstretched hand, he then lifts it effortlessly above his head and seems to just carelessly toes it away as if it were a crumbled piece of paper. The car went straight towards Shinoa and Yu, but they managed to dodge it just in time. Yoichi starts shooting arrows with his cursed gear but the vampire easily deflects them with his sword. "No way!" Yoichi says as his attack failed. The vampire uses his sword to send a huge blast straight towards him. I can hear Yu shout in the distance Yoichi's name but I'm already moving. I summon my cursed gear, my double sided sword staff which has helped me win countless of battles. And together with Shinoa's scythe we manage to parry away the noble's attack from Yoichi straight into a building, the whole top of the building immediately getting destroyed. "This isn't good" Shinoa says. "He's so strong" I add surprised at the amount of damage a single attack did. The two nobles me and my previous squad encountered are nothing compared to this guy. We get into formation, I hold my staff defensively in front of me, staring down our opponent. "My my, aren't you an interesting bunch" the noble comments as he starts walking towards us, but he soon stops in his tracks. He takes a deep inhale and looks us all over closely, then his eyes seem to stop on me. The others notice what has caught the vampire's attention and they all take a protective step closer to me. When the noble doesn't stop staring Yu eventually caves, "hey you, stop staring at our comrade and deal with me instead!" He shouts angrily and starts charging, Kimizuki close behind. Shinoa takes her chance to look at me, "don't worry, we'll protect you" she tries to sound reassuring but the noble's demonstration of his power seemed to have unnerved her a bit. I break my eye contact with the vampire to look at her, my heart swells in my chest to know that they have my back. "Don't worry about me, I can handle myself." I say trying to reassure her. I turn my gaze back to the battle developing in front of me, Yu and Kimizuki had starting attacking the vampire but he seemed almost bored deflecting their attacks and stabbing back at them with his sword, as if he was swatting away flies. Now that I could finally have a minute to think I started looking at the vampire more closely, he was tall, towering over even Kimizuki with almost a whole head. He had broad shoulders and slightly tan skin. He has red bangs but the rest of his hair was dark brown. The brown hair on the back of his head was long and braided into a simple long braid. I also noticed the top buttons of his white army shirt were unbuttoned, displaying a bit of his muscular chest. I shook myself out of whatever my mind was going to think of next, there was nothing special about him, he had the average blood red eyes, long pointy ears all vampires possessed. He even had a stupid vampire fang sticking out of his smiling mouth. I broke free of my trance when Shinoa's voice rang out, "he's strong, we will have to fight together as a team if we want to defeat this guy" she said loudly so even Yu and Kimizuki could hear her. "It might not be enough though" she says more quietly for only me and Yoichi to hear. I give her a nod anyway and grip my staff harder. Yuu and Kimizuki fell back into formation, and together as a team we advanced towards the enemy.
