Chapter 16: True Damage

Akali's POV

Yi decided to stay in Yugakure after the mission. He said that he needs file mission reports and do damage control. I may have overdid the killing......a bit too much. But since there wasn't any left of their bodies and they were wanted criminals, everything was easier to deal with.

I already received the rewards of the quest, and even though I am nowhere near the EXP cap, I'm still pretty satisfied with my progress.

Oh, and speaking about progress, I still don't know how to use the skill that the old lady gave me. It's strange since it was already at max level when she gave it to me, and her, giving me a skill at all was already so............it seems impossible.

It was unfortunate that I have to kill her. I still have questions that only she knows the answer. Probably.

After we came back to Konoha with a mission complete, Suzaku labeled it as an A rank mission. Pretty sick huh? It almost cost us our life so we definitely deserve the praise.

We were really tired after all that fiasco so we took a one week break to rest both our bodies and minds. Suzaku's definitely thinking about how the twins will feel about all of what happened so it was for the best that we took a long rest. It was also beneficial for me since it's almost been two weeks since I got to organize my skills and I haven't trained any since that mission, and talking about the system, I still don't know what to do about the shark god that is currently floating around my apartment in his human form, casually brushing his long turquoise hair on my head every now and then.

"Why are you looking at me like that mortal?"

"Nothing. I'm just wondering why you look like a senior highschooler."

"This is what I look like before I died."

"Really? Must be nice to have fan girls."

"If that's your indirect way of saying that I'm handsome, then thank you."

"So you do have fan girls? I think I deserve a little story."

"Heh, watch it human. Don't act cozy now."

"I'll take that as a no then."

I yawned and stretched my limbs.

A big window suddenly appeared as I said those words, it may have caught the shark God's attention for he floated behind me and looked curiously.

"For a human, you sure have a lot of skills."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

I grinned and scrolled through my skill list to look for any new things I can find.

As a way to quench your insatiable hunger, you devour your enemies and adapt to their synergies as a way to get stronger.]

[Marksmanship: lvl 18 (58%)Scales the skill of accuracy and power in each and every throw of a kunai.]

[Scales of Justice (passive) level: 'max'T

he very scale that Lady Justice holds, this skill determines the innocence of anyone who is appraised by this skill.If the person is evil, the scale will give you +50% buff on every stat. Will only disperse if the evil is vanquished. If the person is innocent, the scale will do nothing.]

"Gamer's mind and body? Is that how a game character can't die even if their heads are cut off?"

"Yep. Convenient right?"

"Hm.....I wonder, don't you have a Gamer's soul?"

Pollux asked and took the skill tab away from me. I sweatdropped. Although he has a good question there.....

"Good question........maybe that's why I have a sanity bar."

I said and showed him my character's info.

Wait.

"How can you see the tabs?"

"Because I am not a npc. I'm a God remember?"

I nodded knowingly. Right. He's a God. But then how did the system know that he wants an audience with me? The system was the one who set up that unfaithful meeting.

"What is it? I know you're thinking of something human."

"Stop calling me human, and yes I'm thinking of something. How come the system knows you then? Is the game master somehow aware of a God's intervention?"

That seems to shut him up as he pushed back my skill list to me and float away.

"I was asking a question."

"And you don't deserve the answer. If you want to survive, then don't dig any deeper."

He said before disappearing. Bad choice of words. Now he made me even more curious. I sighed, slightly startled when a call interrupted the peaceful silence inside my apartment.

"Junko. You seem distressed."

I said nonchalantly to greet the obviously worried red head.

[I am!! There's this really weird thing that happened after a mission!]

"And that is?"

[How can I put it........there's a tab that said that a God was pleased by my actions! Are we being watched Akali?]

was put into deep thinking by Junko's words. That was the same tab that appeared before I got to meet Pollux......

What is another God doing here?

Wait.

Wait! I think I know the answer!!

"I can't be sure yet, but I think I figured it out. The game master.....the gods that are watching us, it all leads to one conclusion, but then again, I'm not sure. It'll be wrong to jump to conclusions."

[What will I do then?]

"Befriend that God of yours. The only thing we can do is to lay low and wait for their moves. I don't want to start a ragnarok just yet."

[Ragnarok?]

"A fight between humans and Gods. Or the total destruction of the world."

[E-eh?!]

"Yes. But what about finding other players? Any progress?"

[No, not yet. Unfortunately, we rarely have missions that involves going out of town, but I'm working on it.]

"Don't stress yourself about it. Your current objective is taking care of yourself and becoming stronger. I don't want you dying on me."

I said seriously and looked at the screen to see Junko covering her face with her hands.

"What's wrong? Do you have a fever?"

[Flirt successful.]

"Oh."

I said and facepalmed. How does this keep happening?

"Are you finished flirting with each other yet?"

"Pollux. So you decided to come back?"

"I never left. And you mentioned about her becoming stronger correct?"

"Yes. What about it?"

"If you want to make her stronger, give her your cards."

I bet hesitation was clear on my face. That will definitely lower my REP with Suzaku and Takeshi so I'm not so sure....

"Trust me. The compatibility of you and you're cards are low. You're not the type to rely on luck. Give it to her to see what I mean."

He said and looked directly over my shoulder and onto the screen, smirking at the panicked looking Junko.

[A-Akali? Is that y-your brother? You didn't tell me you had any relatives!]

"No you oaf. And why are you showing yourself to Junko?"

I asked the smug looking shark that only shrugged in return.

"I like to startle your friends."

He said with a damn smug smirk on his face. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Hey Junko, I'll give something to you. If you don't like it you can give it back to me."

[You sound hesitant.]

"I don't."

I said and sighed. I looked up her name on my friend list and tapped the gift icon beside her name, tapping the Mirror of Aphrodite and gifting it to her.

"Do you have it now?"

I asked Junko who was slightly looking down, I assume that she's looking at another tab.

[Yep! I- woah......three skills?! Look I got three skills Akali!]

She said and excitedly showed me three tabs, saying that she acquired a skill called Wheel of Fortune, Russian Roulette and Destiny.

"See? I told you their compatibility is perfect."

"Yeah sure. Junko, that's perfect."

[Yeah! Specially chunnin exams are near! Oh right......there were no kumo nin on the chunin exams in Konoha right?]

"Your nation hates Konoha correct?"

I looked at Pollux with a confused expression. He looked back with a glare.

"Don't tell her that I'm a God mortal. I told you she'll be in danger if she knows about our existence before she meets her own God."

"Tsk. I get it. Just don't show up too much okay? I'm gonna have a hard time explaining who you are. Unless you want me to die, be invisible."

"Hmph."

[He's a player?! Why didn't you tell me earlier?! So.......why do you two look alike again?]

"She's so gullible....."

I thought and sighed.

"Look, I'll explain everything after you meet the God that's watching you."

[....okay. I trust you.]

She said and proceeded to give the brightest, most innocently sweet smile that I've seen in my life.

"You're blushing Akali."

"Wow. So we're on the first name basis now?"

I said and rubbed away the blush that subconsciously formed on my cheeks. Ugh. Is it this weird to be smiled at?

[Nah. You're just foreign to feelings.]

I didn't like that laugh one bit but I stayed silent.

"Now that you have three new skills, you should train with them and make yourself accustomed. I don't know when will I see you in person so you better be stronger until then."

[Aye aye!]

I don't know if this silence was awkward or not, but it was definitely deafening so I guess it was? I'm not sure.

It was only a matter of time when Pollux spoke again.

"So, have you tried the faces of your cards?"

[Faces? But this cards look like the normal ones.]

She said and showed us the normal everyday cards, the crystallization only appearing on it's back.

"Hm? So it was the last act of loyalty that your cards gave you huh?"

"You could say."

[I've been meaning to ask, but why don't you use weapons? Not like I'm underestimating taijutsu or anything.]

I smirked. Oh boy, this will be quite a long discussion.

"Well, do you know why Gai was able to be on par with Madara?"

[With his eight gates?]

"Correct. But that's not all there is to it. In this game, there are three stages of damage, the low medium high and true damage."

"Low damage are dealt by basic attacks such as punch, kick or a kunai throw. Medium damage are caused by item builds that amplifies our basic attacks. High damage is the most common type of damage because it comes from jutsus. Any type of jutsu, may it be genjutsu, ninjutsu or fuinjutsu."

"But true damage is what I think is the highest form of damage. True damage only comes from taijutsu, specially if the martial art that is used is legendary. True damage is what caused Gai to win Against Madara who dealt all kinds of High damage but has a low level True Damage."

"And that's what makes us a perfect team. We can both deal low and Medium damage but my high damage is lower than yours, so that makes you a critical hitter assassin. My True damage compensated for that, so along with my high defense, we can finish our opponents quickly."

"You keep speaking about this true damage yet you didn't exactly tell us what it actually meant."

[Yeah! What is true damage?]

"Well, the quickest way to explain it is that it's the type of damage that can penetrate through anything. For example, that armor you are wearing gives you critical hit resistance, or my Manipulator's Cloak gives me magic resistance, those defense items can manage to block or lessen the effects of ninjutsu and other critical hits but true damage breaks through it all. No matter how much armor or magic resist you wear. It also prevents the enemy from healing themselves in a span of 10 seconds, but because I am also much more agile than you, I can deal continous damage that can prevent the enemy from healing at all."

"Pretty op huh?"

[Y-yeah.....to the point that you make me insecure T-T]

She said with tears falling from her eyes.

"You don't have to be insecure. You're far better dealing critical damage than getting yourself hurt trying to deal true damage. That's why I'm here. You're my Marksman-like assassin and I'm your tankish fighter. Perfect synergy no?"

I said and-

Junko was yet again blushing and Pollux has a disguted look on his face whilst he looks at me. I gave him an I-didn't-mean-to-I-swear look that he simply rolled his eyes to.

"Okay you need to stop blushing."

[If only you stopped being so romantic on your words then I might!]

"You're the charmer here for God's sakes, why are you being charmed at me?"

"Okay you two stop. I can't stand looking at this cheesy shit anymore."

"Why aren't your curses censored? That's unfair....."

"I'm a God. I'll smite them if they do anything that I don't like."

I rolled my eyes. Good thing Junko was still distracted that she didn't notice that he just slipped up and straight up told that he was a God. Ugh.

"Anyways, I'll go out and train. I'll end the call."

[Okay. Be safe!]

"Yeah. You too."

I said before ending the call. I'll start training two times harder now that I've got this God on my back.
