Chapter 3
00:32, 24 June 2021"He got out?" Savitar raised his voice, "what happened?"
Joe and Iris walked in in distress.
Barry ran a hand through his hair, "Joe and I got there and he was in his cell, they monitored him, so Harry was right, but as soon as we got there, he just vanished."
"It's probably another vision he created," Iris added.
"Why is he breaking out now?" Caitlin asked, "after all these years."
"Guess we'll have to ask him," Cisco said and pulled up a map of Central City, "'cause he's at Mercury Labs right now."
"You sure it's not a vision this time?" Savitar asked.
"Since I can see him clear as day through the CCTV cameras, I'm ninety percent sure it's the real him," Cisco replied.
"Ninety?" Joe asked.
"Hey man, for someone we barely know anything about, ninety's pretty good if you ask me."
"Okay then, Savitar?" Barry asked. A gush of wind spread through the lab and Savitar appeared with his suit on, which was technically Barry's old suit.
"Ready, I'll meet you there." He sped out and Barry shook his head, smiling.
The two speedsters got to the lab where they saw Victor talking to a woman in a lab coat.
"Didn't I warn you all those years ago? You don't belong here, yet you still came."
"Your little nightmares don't scare me, Vic. I finally got a PhD and now I'm going to use it for some good."
"Honey, those weren't just nightmares, they're reality. Visions of a possible future."
The woman's eyes shrank in fear, but she smiled, "that's impossible."
"Is it? Let me make it a little bit more realistic." Before he could hit her with a ray of his powers, Savitar threw a lightning bolt at him and he fell to the ground.
"Let's finish this once and for all."
Barry took the woman out of the room and sped back within seconds.
"God of Speed? That's what they call you, right? It's nice to meet Central City's heroes. In person and officially," Victor laughed and tried to get up but Barry quickly put his hand in power-dampening cuffs.
The speedsters took Victor to the pipeline where Team Flash stood in front of the transparent glass.
"What are your powers? Your real powers?" Harry questioned curiously.
Victor smirked, "I can see your future and make you see it too."
"Stop lying," Barry stepped forward with his Flash suit, "my vision, it was from the past, an event that already happened."
Victor starred at Barry for a moment that smiled, "Bartholomew Henry Allen, is the mask really that necessary?" The team looked at each other, "to answer your question, as a speedster, you can travel back and forth in time, who's to say you won't travel back in time again in the near future? Who's to say that when you do, you accidentally kill Nora Allen yourself instead of Eobard Thawne?"
"That's enough," Savitar made the cell and its inmate disappear with his handprint.
The team looked at each other quietly, taking in what The Hybrid had said.
"We of all people know that the future isn't set in stone. This guy's powers are practically worthless, he just wants to scare you, Barry," Iris said.
Barry took his mask off in anger, "yeah. I hope so."
As Barry, Cisco, and Joe went to CCPD, to talk over to officials, Caitlin and Iris thought it was best to talk with the mysterious woman from Mercury Labs. Savitar joined them since he had no day-time job, and people still found it weird how Barry's 'twin' just showed up out of nowhere.
Odd, since there were weirder things that occurred in the city.
Caitlin parked her car in front of the lab she used to work at and turned to Savitar and Iris.
"Okay, I'll go in and see if I can talk to Dr. McGee about letting us in."
Savitar rolled his eyes, "Cait, it'd be easier for me to run in, grab her, and come back out. It'd be seconds."
Caitlin looked at him sternly, "this is more ethical, I'll be back."
As soon as she left, Savitar turned to Iris, "so how was Bora Bora?"
Iris' eyes lit up, "it was amazing, better than I imagined," she smiled, "the water was so blue, and we had martinis with these really small umbrellas, here look." She showed him the photos on her phone.
Savitar laughed, "I like this one," he referred to a picture of Barry getting hit in the face with a volleyball.
Iris laughed too, "he's still the same old clumsy kid. He didn't even use his powers once, you know? It was nice, I mean not that I don't like Barry with powers-"
"It's just nice to feel a little normal?"
She smiled, "exactly. I feel like our lives are constantly in life-or-death situations, being in Bora Bora, I felt so free and I know it would've never happened if it weren't for you. I can't thank you enough."
"It's alright, it felt good to fight on my own."
"Then, I guess Barry and I should take more vacations."
"Be my guest."
They continued to converse until Caitlin came back with a successful smile. They walked into Mercury Labs and found the woman from earlier sitting on one of the big couches in the entrance.
"Guys, this is Hope Graham, mechanical engineer," Caitlin introduced. Iris gave the timid woman a handshake, but when Savitar went in for one, she couldn't stop staring at the scar on his face.
Luckily, he didn't care.
"Thanks for meeting with us, Hope. I'm Iris West-Allen, reporter for Citizen News, this is Savitar Allen and Caitlin Snow, um, colleagues of mine."
"Wait, but isn't Dr. Snow, a bio-chemist who used to work for Harrison Wells? I'm a huge fan of your work, by the way." Hope pushed her glasses up and Caitlin smiled.
"Thank you, I really appreciate it, but after the particle accelerator, I started working on the medical side of Citizen News."
Hope scrunched her eyebrows in confusion, "but you have three PhDs, and you're writing?"
Savitar looked at Caitlin admiringly and Caitlin blushed, "it's uh, part-time job."
"Is it true about what they say?"
"What who says?" Caitlin asked, confused.
"That Dr. Harrison Wells is back from the dead? That he faked his death because he couldn't live with the guilt of changing the lives of innocent humans?"
"No, no. He's very much not alive."
"We just wanted to ask you about the recent attack. The meta seemed to have a personal conflict with you?" Iris asked.
"Yes, that's right."
"Can you elaborate?"
Savitar, who was bored and couldn't care less about this conversation, put his hand over Caitlin's shoulder and tried not to drift off to sleep.
"Well, the meta-human's name is Victor Hinburg. We knew each other since high school. We were," she fiddled with her hands, "romantically engaged, I guess you could say. Ahem, in college, a few years ago, I asked Victor to help me with an experiment for my final project."
"What kind of experiment?" Savitar asked as his curiosity grew.
"I wanted to be able to control lucid dreaming in a way where someone on the outside, say a doctor, could see their patients past. Their childhood, their happiness, their fear. Victor was my subject and I swear everything would've been perfect if it weren't for-"
"The particle accelerator," Caitlin finished.
"Exactly. Well, this purple light blasted through our dorm and suddenly Victor fell asleep. He woke up distressed and when he looked at me, I saw this ... vision. I was in Mercury Labs where I was confronted by this masked man who killed me."
"Which is what would've happened today," Iris added.
"If it wasn't for the Flash and the God of Speed. Victor wasn't the same after he woke up. He was enraged, all he wanted was revenge for everyone who wronged him. Including me."
"What did you do?" Savitar asked.
She shrugged, "I broke up with him. He wasn't the same person I fell in love with. I tried, I really did, in the beginning, I tried to help him with his supernatural ability." She sighed, "sometimes you can try and help someone as much as you can, but in the end, they've just gotten too deep into the darkness."
Savitar and Caitlin glanced at each other.
"Thank you Hope, that was a huge help," Iris stood up and Caitlin and Savitar followed.
**************
The next morning, Caitlin got a call from Cisco.
"Hello?" She whispered, trying not to wake Savitar up.
"Hey, where are you right now?"
"At home, why?"
"You need to come to Star Labs, right now."
