Chapter 26

Spied On

“What is that?” I heard Sam ask. I looked around to try and locate what he was looking at. I saw the black mist in the distance. And looked at it to try and decipher what it was.

“Nothing! It’s just a whiff of cloud.” Gimli said.

“It’s moving fast… Against the wind.” Boromir stated.

“Kremlin from Dunland!” Legolas shouted.

“Hide!” Aragorn shouted. I ran backwards and grabbed my bag. I didn’t know where to hide. I looked around bewildered. Someone grabbed me and dragged me to a nearby bush. He rolled under and accidently pulled me on top of him. I blushed profusely. I hoped it wasn’t Boromir, I thought, that would be awkward, considering my best friend is his wife.

My head rested on his chest and our bodies were squished together, I saw further down Boromir also hiding. Thank goodness. I watched as the crow-like creatures sored above us. I could here the person’s heart beating rapidly and quickly in their chest. Would it be weird to admit that mine, was beating at the same pace.

Once the birds has gone I rolled as well as I could to see whose chest I was on. It was… Legolas.

“Hey.” He said coolly and gave me a nod.

“Thanks, for hiding me.” I said. He nodded and smiled. I smiled back.

I was taking the second shift on the nightly watch. I sat on the rock that Frodo and Sam were on earlier taking in my surroundings. I looked behind my shoulder to check if anyone was still awake. No one was. I took my tunic off and placed it on the rock beside me. I shivered a little in my tank top. Pulled it up just to wear the gauze was wrapped around my chest. I carefully started unwrapping the gauze.

I had to be careful because it was the only gauze I had for the protection outer layer. I looked at the cut. Ouch, I thought. It looked really bad, the blood had barely clotted so it was still bleeding and had socked the bandaging. The skin around it was pink. That means its infected, I thought.

I frowned. I reached into my knapsack and felt around for the familiar feeling of the jar. It was the jar of healing salve. I pulled it out and unscrewed the lid. I scooped a bit out with my fingers and slowly smeared it on my wound. I winced and sucked in my breath sharply. It really, really hurt.

I quickly took some new gauze and covered it. I wrapped the gauze back around my chest and lowered my shirt. I cleared away any evidence into my backpack. I heard footsteps. I whipped my head around.

Legolas was standing there sheepishly. My eyes widened.
