Chapter 25

Over View

We neared the outcropping of rocks and climbed onto the elevated rock plain. It was mainly flat with a few bushes and boulders here and there. There was a cave carved in the precipice facing me. The sheer rock mound facing me was huge. At least this part was flat. I turned around.

Legolas was helping Gimli up the rocks as much as he detested it. I saw Frodo and Sam being helped by Aragorn and Merry and Pippin struggling to get up. I walked over to them and offered my hands. They took my hands and hauled themselves up.

“Thanks, Alana!” Pip said.

“Thank you!” Merry said at the same time as Pippin. I nodded. I couldn’t find it in to speak right now, or socialize with anybody. I watched as everyone set up for the night. Gandalf was checking out the cave for we would probably be sleeping there. Gandalf exited the cave and talked to everyone. I wasn’t listening. I wanted to be alone. I looked at the cliff face before me.

I could probably scale it. I walked over to the heap of rocks. I clambered on top of one. I stood on my tippy toes and felt the flat ledge with my fingers. I pulled myself up, like one might do when getting out of a pool. I swung my right leg on the ledge and stood up. I was only about ten feet of the ground, it had looked higher from the ground though.

I looked up there was about five more feet to go before I reached the top. I put my foot in the crevice of the wall and hoisted myself up. Only two feet left to climb. I pulled myself up and pushed myself up so that I was sitting on the edge of the mini cliff, with my feet dangling over the edge.

I watched the scene below me unfold. I watched Sam bring food over to Frodo and sit next to him on the boulder. He and Frodo were watching Boromir train the other hobbits. Boromir was making incoherent noises each time he swung.

“Good, very good.” Boromir said to Merry. He turned to Pippin and swung at him.

“Move your feet.” Aragorn said monotonously. Pippin blocked Boromir’s last strike.

“You brokd goob Pippim.” Merry praised with his mouth full of food. Having translated full mouths quite often I knew he was trying to say: You blocked good Pippin. He nodded and thanked Merry. Boromir turned to Merry.

“Faster.” Boromir said. I chuckled; the hobbits were going to make fine young warriors. I turned my attention to Gimli who had started to speak.

“If anyone would ask for my opinion, which I note they’re not, I’d say we were taking the long way ‘round. Gandalf, we could pass through the mines of Moria, my cousin, Balin would give us a royal welcome.” He said.

“No, Gimli, I would not take the roads through Moria unless I had no other choice.” He said finalizing the matter. I looked down at Legolas who hopped from boulder to boulder. He looked off in the distance. I brought my attention back to Boromir and the hobbits.

Boromir was ‘fighting’ Pippin. Only this time, Pippin didn’t block Boromir’s swing and cut his finger. He cried out and shook his hand.

“Oh, m’sorry!” Boromir said. Pippin kicked him in the shins. Merry hit him in the side and they went tumbling down.

“For the Shire!” Pippin cried. Boromir laughed. Aragorn decided to ruin the fun, though.

“Gentlemen that’s enough.” He said walking over. They looked at him and pulled him down to. Laughing and wanting to take part I jumped down. I landed gracefully on the flat rock and started to make my way past them.

I walked past Gandalf when I stopped.
