Chapter 10

I Know You Two

I dashed behind the wall and peeked around to see who had tried to open my door.

Two little people fell in. One of them hopped up and shut the door. He put his ear to the door to listen. He nodded after hearing it was clear. I grabbed my bow and notched an arrow in it getting ready to fire. I stepped out from behind the wall, turned the light on and drew the bow back preparing to shoot.

What I saw, I did not expect. Two hobbits were in my room! Even more unexpected was that I recognized them.

“Merry, is that you? Pippin? What in the world are you doing here?” I cried in disbelief. I pushed my arrow forward and popped it out, returning it to my holder. I dropped my bow and ran towards them.

“Alana?! It is you!” Pippin cried rushing forward. Embracing me. Merry rushed forward as well. I hugged them for what felt like forever.

~ Flashback ~

We sat on Shadowfax as we galloped towards Bree, the tiny Hobbit town. Gandalf adjusted me in his arms, as we got closer together. I looked around; we were on a path that lead towards a tiny village. There were little huts that hobbits lived in. They were one story high and had basements. There were also little round doors in the sides of the hills. Even though I wasn’t a hobbit I was tiny so everything was me-sized.

We drew up to a hut with a green door and a large garden. I could see all types of vegetables and fruits. They looked delicious.

We slowed down as we reached the house. A hobbit walked out of the house he started sweeping. He called out, “Meriadoc! Peregrin! Where are you rascals?”

“Mr. Brandybuck! It has been quite a while.” Gandalf said, stopping the horse. He un-mounted the horse and then lifted me off. I stepped behind Gandalf’s cloak, shy. Mr. Brandybuck waddled over to us. I was a lot shorter than him. Even though I was six, I was commonly mistaken for a four year old. To me he looked tall. He smiled when he recognized Gandalf.

“Ah… Gandalf my old friend, how have you been holding up?” He asked smiling.

“I have been faring well Hans, and yourself? I heard you have had a son?” He asked.

“I have had a son, I will introduce you to him when he turns up.” Gandalf stepped aside to reveal me. “Who is this fine tiny creature? Is she a orphaned hobbit?” Hans asked concerned. Gandalf laughed deeply.

“No, Hans. This is Alana, although some call her Vanya, her elfish name.” He said. I looked at him. I was determined not to have strangers call me that, for that’s what my family used to call me.

“She’ an elf then?” He asked. Gandalf nodded. I knew he was lying though. I knew I wasn’t an elf, I was a freaky mixture.

“Hans, I am sorry to spring this upon you but we are journeying far and need an abode for tonight. Would you be willing to let us sleep in one of your rooms?” He asked.

“Dear Gandalf, of coarse! You are always welcome to stay in my home.” He put his broom to the side and opened the door. Gandalf walked in and I followed not wanting to be left alone in the strange new place.
