Chapter 9

Alone At Last

“Are you okay?!” He asked sounding worried. I quickly adjusted my leather tunic so that it covered the blood. My leather tunic was basically a long sheet of leather with a hole for my head. It tied at each hip. Luckily it wasn’t damaged. He let go of my torso and leaned back waiting for my explanation.

“Yeah, I’m fine. It was a cut from a while ago. I guess I didn’t see it when I picked it out.” I said unconvincingly. He frowned clearly not buying it.

“I didn’t see it before.” He said still frowning. He leaned towards me to check it out again. I flinched, a force of habit.

“Look, it’s nice you’re worried but honestly I’m okay.” I snapped. I gasped not believing I said that. He looked upset, almost crushed. I instantly tried to make amends before real damage was done. “I’m sorry I snapped at you like that. I’m not really used to having people worry about me. When I was little I had to stand on my own two feet pretty early on.” He nodded understandingly.

“I’m sorry too, I just couldn’t bear the thought that you were hurt and it was my fault.” He said sincerely. His eyes looked truly remorseful so I realized he wasn’t lying. I sighed and stood up reluctant to leave. I started to speak, “We should head back.” He stood up and offered me his arm. I took it immediately, without hesitation.

We walked up the slanted walkway towards our horses. I let go of his arm and untied Aron. I mounted him carefully and winced inwardly. Legolas mounted his horse aswell. We started to trot back to the stable, through the orchard.

“Thank you for showing me around, Alana.” He said courteously. I nodded.

“Your welcome. I had a lot of fun.” I said. “We should do it again.” I smiled. He looked down.

“I don’t think I’ll be here for long.” He smiled sadly.

“Good night Legolas!” I said. I gave him a smile and he smiled back.

“Good night Alana.” He said. He started to turn when, I snaked my arms around his torso, giving him a hug. At first he didn’t react but then turned around and returned the hug. We both let go and stepped back. He opened his door and walked in closing his door behind him, but not before flashing me a smile.

I opened my door. As soon as I closed the door a wave of pain hit me emanating through my side. I gripped the bedside table for support. I slowly made my way over to the chest at the foot of my bed, pausing in between and gripping the bed for support. I opened it and grabbed my first aid box. I sat down on the chest feeling light-headed. I took of my tunics and my tank top. My tank top and tunic were ruined, but my leather tunic was unharmed.

I opened the little box and grabbed a cloth and the disinfectant serum Elrond had given me. It had special herbs that increased the speed of healing. I stood up and walked over to the basin. I rinsed the cloth in cold water and walked back over to the chest. I winced as the cloth touched my gash. I wiped out all the gravel making my eyes sting with tears.

I looked down the cut was five inches long one centimeter deep and wide. I cleaned off all the remaining blood that surrounded the cut. I poured a little of the chucky disinfectant mixture on my hand and proceeded to rub it on my wound. I took some pads of gauze and put them on the cut making sure it was completely covered.

I took wrapping gauze and wrapped it around my ribs, until the bottom half of my ribs were completely white. I put on a new tunic and picked up the ruined clothes. I tossed them in the bin, and put my first aid kit back in the chest.

Feeling a little better I turned off the gaslight and walked onto the balcony, wanting to feel alone. There was a cool breeze that ruffled my tunic. I took my hair out of the bun, and ran my hand through it untangling it slightly.

A few minutes later I heard the doorknob turn.

~ ~ ~ Who turns the doorknob? Who could it be? I hate it when writers leave chapters with cliff hangers so I'll be sure to update soon.
