Chapter 7
02:09, 24 May 2018I awoke with a pounding headake as I moaned awake. I looked around, seeing myself in my bedroom at the Mukami mantion. I was in the room alone for what I thought, hearing the silence through the room. No page flipping of Ruki's book or Kou's music sheets. Nothing but the complete silence. I moaned awake as I shifted to look out the window, seeing the moon up in the sky. The cresent white moon sat in the black sky, as it shined in my room. Every once in a while, a cloud would drift over it, shadowing the moon and making my room darker for a moment. My head was still hurting a little bit, as I got a headake. "What happend? Where's everyone?" I thought as I moaned awake, sitting up in my bed. I pressed my hand to my head, as the wind rushed through me a bit. "Here, take this" Ruki's voice spoke, as he handed me a little glass of blood. I looked at the dark liquid as I took it from him, and drank from it. "Take slow sips. They took a lot from you and you don't want to become sick again" he said, as he walked over to the other side of the room, and sat at the desk. I took a little sip of the blood, tasting the iron of it against my toung. It's been a while since I took blood, but at least it wasn't forced on me. I looked back out the window as I sighed, feeling tired as before. I went to take another sip of the blood, as my hands began to shake, and I felt weaker again. Ruki got up and grabbed the blood from me. He lied me against his arm, as he sighed. He pressed the cup against my mouth as the blood poured down my throat. I flinched at the iron taste, as I looked up at Ruki. He cracked a smile as he spoke. "Thanks, for not fighting me with this, like you did at the shelter with the guard" he said, as the cup finished, and he pulled it away. I moaned as I liked there, feeling stronger slowley from the blood.
Ruki put the glass on the nightstand, as he rested me up against the pillows. He fixed them so I was sitting up in bed. I looked at my hands as I sat there in silence. "Uh, thanks Ruki" I said, as I continued to study them. Ruki was quiet at first, but spoke with a questioned voice. "Why are you thanking me? I'm just doing what has to be done" he said, as I looked at him. He was still fixing the pillows, as he stopped, then went for the blankets in front of me. "Um, you could've let me die when those two took my blood. But you still fed more to me, and took care of me" I said, as I looked at my hands. Ruki studied me as he sighed. "I'm just taking care of the family. Plus you still have a job to do, and school is going to be comming up. You should rest for that" he said, as he got up and grabbed the empty glass. "I'm going to make dinner. I'll bring some up to you when it's ready" he said, as he started to walk out of the room. I rolled to my side as I rested my head on my pillow. I looked at Ruki as he looked at me. "If there's anything else, let someone know" he said, before he shut the door, and left me to rest. I lied my head back on the pillow as I closed my eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.
A hour later
I awoke to the sound of dishes clanking outside the door. I cracked my eye lids as I saw the door creek open, and Ruki walked in with a tray of food. It was some type of pasta dish, with a piece of bread and anoter cup of blood. He sighed as I shifted in my bed to look up at him. "Alright, you ready for supper?" he asked as he put the tray on the nightstand on the side of me. I didn't say anything, due to the confusion that ran through my head. Ruki sighed as he sat on the bed, and put his arms around my waste. "Ok, ready" he said, as he pulled me up into a sitting position. I would've done it myself, but I was getting too weak again. He rubbed his hand on my head, as he slid down to feel my cheek. "Hmm, maybe you need more of the blood" he said, as he looked at the tray next to him. He reached for the cup of blood, as he popped the rim in my mouth, and poured it down my throat. My eyes widened as he sat there, feeding me this blood. I quickly pulled my head away as blood then poured down my cheek. "Come on Skylar, your turning weaker" he said, as he tried to do it again. Once again, I took a little, then pulled away from him, as my head banged up against the wall.
Ruki sighed as he put the glass down again. "Skylar, I'm trying to help you. Why do you keep fighting me with this?" he asked, as memories of the shelter flashed in my mind again. I felt tears roll down my cheeks, as I started to cry a bit. "Skylar?" he asked, as I shook my head. "Why are you still feeding me blood?" I asked, not even thinking of what happened. Ruki sighed as he put the glass on the table, then looked at my neck. His eyes widdned as he thought to himself. "Why aren't they healing already?" he asked, as he brushed my neck, making me whince in pain. I felt my neck for myself, as my eyes widdeened. I felt something ooze out of my neck, as I pulled my hand away, seeing the deep, red blood on my fingers. "He...I got bit" I thought to myself, as I looked at Ruki. Without thought, he grabbed my hand as he licked the blood off my fingers. Then he bent down and started to lick the blood off of my neck, as he kept me still. "Why did you let them bite you like that?" he asked, as he pulled away from me. I looked at him as I started to feel scared. My body started to tremble with fear, as I looked at him. "Did you?" I asked, but stopped when he shook his head. "No, but Laito did. And I'm not happy about it. I told them not to put fangs into you, but they didn't listen" he said, as he looked down at my neck.
I flinched as he brushed his hands against the bites, making them shoot though my neck with pain. He jolted back as he turned to me. "Oh, sorry. Did that still hurt?" he asked, as I looked at him. "Yeah, it did" I said, as I studied at him. He watched me with confusion, like I just said something that I shouldn't have. I studied his blue eyes, as they started to get glossy, and he was starting to cry. The reaction that he gave me, got me confused. I turned to him as I spoke again. "What's wrong?" I asked, as he pulled me into a hug, and kept me there for a few minutes. I looked at him with confusion, as I waited to see what he'd do. Ruki calmed down after five minutes as he spoke. "I'm sorry for putting you in so much pain, and what those Sakamaki's did to you. I'm glad that your so open with us, seeing that you came out of a bad place" he said, as he pulled back a bit. I continued to look at him with confusion, as he rested me back on the bed. I didn't know what to say or do at this point. This was all so shocking for me, that I couldn't think. Ruki sighed as he got up, and walked towards the window. He sat on the cill as he looked out the window. I sat up more as I looked over at him with confusion. I sighed as I hugged my knees to my chest, and rested my head on the tops of them. I thought about what was going on and why the Mukami's were doing what they did.
I looked up at the wall, seeing the bright glow shined through them. "Ruki, why are you treating me like this?" I asked, as the question grabbed his attention. Ruki sighed as he looked at me from the window, but I didn't look back at him. "Treating you like what?" he asked, as he sounded confused. I picked my arm up as I looked at my wrist. "Your treating me like I'm part of the family. But I'm just a slave" I said, as I dropped my wrist and sighed. Ruki looked back out the window as he sighed. "Your not just a slave. Your Eve, and that makes you special to us" he said, as I lied back and looking down at my hand. "Is it just my blood your after? Your vampire's after all" I said as he looked at me with anger. "How can you say that? If it was your blood that we wanted, you'd be still at the shelter dead by now" he said, as he walked over and sat on my bed. He sighed as he shook his head. "It's way more than being Eve that we took you out of there. It was the fact that you grew up like that." I looked at him in confusion. I didn't understand what he was tring to say. "What are you talking about?" I asked, as he sighed. "That place was like the Slums" he said, more to himself then to me.
I looked over at him in confusion. "The slums?" I asked, knowing that I heard Yuma saying that at the shelter. "This is like the Slums" Yuma's voice spoke inside my head, as the memory came up. Ruki sighed as he spoke. "The slums was a place where you humans took care of us vampires. It was before this twilight thing happened to your human world." I looked at him as I got even more confused. "What? You mean the world used to be runned by humans?" I asked, not knowing what it was like to be runned by humans. All I know is that the world was runned by vampires. Ruki nodded as he looked out the window. "It was. You humans are the reason the world turned into what it is now. Vampires are higher up and you humans are just pets to us. The slums is where Yuma, Kou, Azusa and I grew up, where we met. We escaped there together, then came here and made a family." He sighed as he stopped talking, like he was done with his story. I looked down at my arm in silence, thinking of what he just said. I didn't understand what that had to do with me and my situation. I looked back up at Ruki as I spoke again. "So, you had a similar childhood?" I asked, not knowing any other way to say it. Ruki nodded as he sighed. "Yeah. We could relate with you. But the only different was, the place you were in killed humans when they got to old. The place I was in kept us alive, but if we ran, we got killed."
I sighed as I looked down at my hands. I finally started to understand why they took me out of there, and why their getting mad when a vampire drinks from me. "Is that why you don't want fangs in me?" I asked, as I turned to him. Ruki nodded as he sighed. "Yeah, that's why" he said, sounding upset. I watched him as he looked back out the window, seeing the bright moon shining in the sky. I sighed as I rested on my pillow, and looked out the window. I thought about what we just discussed and came to the conclusion that we weren't different, like I thought we were. "How you feeling tonight Skylar?" he asked, as I pulled my attention towards him. "Better now that I was resting" I said, being completely honest with him. Ruki smiled as he sighed. "If your better in the morning, would you want to try gardening with Yuma?" he asked, as he turned to me. I nodded as I sighed. "I don't mind" I said, as I looked out the window again. Ruki gave me a nod as he spoke. "Alright, get some rest and I'll let him know. He'll come find you when you need to go out" he said, as he got up and walked to the door, but stopped. "Oh and if you can do that tomorrow, I'll put you in our school. Sound good?" he asked, as I nodded. "Yep. But I've never been to school before" I said, looking back out the window. Ruki nodded as he spoke again. "It's alright, we'll figure out what class your in, and we'll go through it together" he said, as he cracked a smile. I looked at him as I nodded myself. "Alright" I said, feeling better about it. "Alright, get some rest" he said, as he shut the door, leaving me to sleep. I lied in bed and looked back out at the moon, then finally fell into a deep sleep.
