21. Whose Fault

22:32, 6 January 2021

Newt P.O.V

I sat at the table, running my fork through meatloaf.

Thomas sat across from me, talking about the plan to get Minho. But he stopped and told me I should eat.

I wasn't in the mood for eating. Beth had disappeared yesterday after our argument and hadn't shown back up.

Vince assured me that she would come back around and she was just dealing with heartbreak.

Brenda had warned me about this. I should've just stayed away and made sure that I never hurt her, because it was only causing her more pain.

A boy ran in and yelled for Brenda. I didnโ€™t think much about it at first until more people piled out and my brain finally clicked.

"Beth," I said said out loud.

I jumped up and ran outside.

My body went cold when I saw her.

I scanned over her, starting at her face.

Her eyes were swollen and blood was dried on her cheeks. Her jaw hung at a strange angle.

Blood was splatters across her white tank top and her gunshot wound was fully displayed.

Her arms had deep cuts in both of them and blood dripped off her fingers from them.

She was walking with a horrible limp, and I saw that she had her blue shirt sleeve tied around her calf, but it was no longer blue, it was a dark red, soaked with blood.

I looked back to her face and we made eye contact.

I could barely even recognize her. Her eyes didn't even sparkle like they did before.

"Beth," I yelled to her, but she didn't even seem to acknowledge her own name.

What the hell did she go through.

Jorge scooped her up and ran towards doc.

I ran behind them and noticed that Thomas, Brenda, and Fry were all right beside me.

"Doc!" Jorge yelled.

Ike ran out and told Jorge to put her on the table. Ike wasn't as good as Mary was, but he was going to have to be good enough.

"She was the girl that went missing?" Ike asked.

"Yes," Brenda seemed frantic.

Ike looked at her arms then reached down and cut off the sleeve around her leg.

It was awful, the skin was torn back from the bone and covered in claw marks.

I heard Frypan gag and Thomas began comforting him.

"Cranks," Ike said. "We should put her out of her misery."

"No," we all yelled at once.

"She is immune," Thomas said.

Ike nodded his head. "Good thing, but I still can't promise she will make it. She has went into hemorrhagic shock."

"English hermano," Jorge insisted.

Ike sighed and began dumping disinfectant on her leg and arms. "She has lost way to much blood. Maybe if she got in here right after it happened, but from the looked of it she was out all night like this. I'm surprised she isn't already dea-" he stopped when he saw us flench at the last word.

I suddenly felt sick. This was my fault. I pushed out fight to far. I was the reason she ran.

I brought my hand up to my mouth and chewed on my nails.

If I would've just listened and talked things through with her, she wouldn't have said she hated me, she wouldn't have ran, and she wouldn't be hurt.

"Bloody hell," I said under my breath as tears came to my eyes. I reached up and pulled my hair as I paced.

"Beth," I said and got on my knees by her side and picked up her hand. "Beth, be strong, come back to me. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," my chest heaved. "Beth come back to me, I love you!" I screamed.

"Get him out of here," Ike said.

I felt Thomas wrap his arms around me but I struggled.

"No, I can't leave her," I yelled. "Its my fault. I can't leave her."

Thomas yanked me back and pulled me out of the room.
