A Proper Goodbye

Your phone rings and sees a text from Takemichi.

What you thought of another great day turned to an unexpected and shocking twist. "I have some bad news for you, Y/n. Fuyu just told me he's back."

You were left frozen on the spot and couldn't think of what to react. 'Why is he back? I'm not prepared for this! Ah.. that night is coming back to me.'

You see a text from Michi again. It read, "He wants to see you."

Y/n waits for Chifuyu outside a coffee shop. It was night time and the atmosphere is at its lowest. Cold and dark.

After waiting for almost 20 minutes, he finally came.

He was so happy to see you and went in to give you a warm hug but you quickly stopped him. The two awkwardly stood there, waiting for someone to start a conversation.

"Uh.. Y/n! So good to see you after what.. 4 or 5 years? How have you been?" Chifuyu spoke, his tone a bit shaking from nervousness.

"I'm good.. How about her? Have you been taking care of her?" you replied.

"You mean Jasmine? Actually, she's the reason why I came back here." he answered.

"Did she do something..?" you said.

"She broke up with me a few months back. Jasmine said she wanted to focus more on her career." Chifuyu responded.

"Oh.. I'm sorry.." you immediately said.

"It's alright! Anyways, I just wanted to see you for this day.. since you're my friend, right?" his eyes directed to yours.

"We're still friends?" you asked.

"If you want to." he let out a chuckle as he spoke.

"I.. no. Chifuyu, hear me out, ok?" you said, now being straight to the point.

"Yes, what is it?" he opened all his ears to you.

"I still love you, Fuyu. My heart still aches from the past." you said, sobbing.

"Y/n.. why don't we start all over again? It would be best for both of us." Chifuyu replied.

"Do you really think that starting all over again would make me forget about that specific night? All that pain that I felt? No! It will always be deep inside my heart." you said.

"Then what can I do to help? Tell me!" he asked as he was very concerned to you.

"I want you to never ever find me again. Never look for me. Just cut ties with me, please?"

"W-What..? No, you know I can't do that!"

"Really? But you did that when you were still with that Jasmine for the whole 5 years you were gone!" you shouted.

"Can you stop mentioning her name? Don't even try to blame her for what I've done to you. Stop being so bitter, Y/n!" he said with an annoyed tone.

"Did you really come here to see how I'm doing or you came here just to cry about your breakup with that woman?" you suddenly asked.

"Of course I came to see you." he answered truthfully.

"Chifuyu, please listen to me just this once. I want to cut ties with you. That's all I want.. as a friend." you begged him.

He went silent, tears forming in his eyes. Chifuyu didn't want you to leave so soon.

After a few moments, he made up his mind and spoke in spoke soft tone, "I understand. I assume this will be our final.. final meet."

You slowly nodded your head to him.

"Can you promise me something before we say our goodbyes to one another?" he asked.

"Sure..?" you answered without any clue.

"Promise me to love someone else, to not cry about me every night, ok? Promise me that." he said.

Chifuyu knew exactly what was going on with you while he was away. He knew how your mind works. He hit the nail on the head. That's why right now your tears are flowing like a river.

"Y/n? Come on, I know you can do it. You're such a strong person!" he comforted you.

"What if I can't? What if I can't forget about you?" you asked, still sobbing.

"It's not that you can't do it. You just don't want to."

That response opened your eyes. It's like somebody politely cleaned your glasses. 'So that explains it.. heh. I'm really dumb, huh?'

Your tears stopped falling. Chifuyu noticed and spoke, "Are you alright now?"

"Yeah. Chifuyu, I will miss you. I don't regret meeting you for the first time ever." you answered, finally showing a sweet smile.

"I'm glad to meet you too, Y/n." he said, also smiling.

"Goodbye, Chifuyu."

"Goodbye, Y/n."
