Chapter 13
18:24, 27 April 2013"Mumma!" Jade called from her room.
"Coming, baby!" I yelled back. "Excuse me," I said to the group of boys in front of me.
Before I went to tend on Jade, Harry sent me a smile. "Tell Jade we miss her," he mumbled. I nodded and went to Jade's room.
Dr. Vincent told us that having too much company can cause Jade to panic, due to her lack of vision. I explained that to the boys and they all understood. I made a deal, though. They can each visit her one at a time with Zayn and me in the room. It's as if she's a prison in this whole ordeal.
"What's up, angel?" I cooed.
"I hear voices, mummy. Who's out there?" She looked in my direction, showing her progression with her blindness.
"Some friends of Daddy's. Do you want to meet them?" I asked.
She nodded her head, being the little curious girl she is. I grinned and told her I'd be right back. I walked into the living room, seeing all of the boys sitting around and chatting. "Boys," I interrupted their conversation. They all turned to me.
"How is she?" Louis asked. "Good?"
"Yeah, much better. She's smiling again," I said. "She said she wants to meet you guys."
"Meet?" Harry asked, clearing his throat. "What do you mean meet?"
"When you guys met her, she was only 1. It's been a while. She doesn't truly understand." I motioned for them to follow me. "C'mon, boys."
The four of them, Zayn following behind, walked towards Jade's door. I opened it for them and they all walked in slowly. I snuck in front of the guys and approached Jade's bed. "Honey, Daddy's friends are here."
She turned her head and smiled her sweet, two-year-old smile. I extended my arm towards Harry. He walked forward and crouched next to Jade's bed.
"This is Harry," I said. Jade reached a hand out and touched Harry's cheek. I saw a tear prick his eyes, as well as the rest of the guys.
Something about this moment, her meeting all of the boys and showing no pain, no worry, nothing, made it feel almost magical. She had no idea what was going on. For being two years of age, she's brilliant- Kris is right. She knows things, she understands things that we as adults sometimes don't. That's how children work. They understand things without even knowing they are.
After all of the boys said hello, Jade quirked an eyebrow. "Daddy?"
"Yes, darling?" Zayn said, rubbing the side of his face.
"I don't wanna go bye-bye," she said softly. I heard Liam let out a surprise gasp and step back.
"Let's go, boys," Harry said. All of them exited Jade's room and sat out into the living room. I gave them a small smile and shut the door.
"What do you mean, baby?" Zayn said quietly, kneeling next to her bed. I watched from the doorway, leaning my weight onto the wood.
"I don't feel right," she whimpered.
"What doesn't feel right, Jade?" Zayn said quickly, feeling rushed. "Jade, what doesn't feel right?"
"What's wrong with me?" She asked, her eyes searching the room.
Zayn turned towards me and I nodded. We have to tell her about the inetivable. I walked to Jade's side and kneeled down. "Tell the boys you'll call them later," I whispered. Zayn nodded and left for 15 minutes. He came back, this time, leaving the door open.
"Jade, sometimes life does things," I started. "Sometimes life isn't fair."
"What does that mean?" Her sweet voice asked.
"You're a big girl, right?"
"Yeah!" She cheered.
"Do you know where big girls go when they are sleeping?" Zayn added in once I choked on my tears.
"Where's that, daddy?"
"They go to a beautiful place for their beautiful soul," he whispered to her. "You'll be going to that beautiful place, baby."
"Why?"
Zayn looked over to me, as if asking for permission to say anything- anything at all. I nodded and he cleared his throat. "You aren't like other little girls. There are some things that are causing you to go to sleep earlier."
"Why aren't I normal?"
"Oh, baby, normal is no gift. Being weird and goofy, like daddy or me, is a good thing," I said sweetly. She giggled. "After the accident, you were hurt, baby. My little angel was hurt."
"What's gonna happen, Mummy?" She asked.
We can't stop ignoring it. It's something that she has to know and Zayn and I both understood that. We knew Jade wouldn't get it right away, but she'd know. That's all she's asking for- guidance.
"You're going to be sleeping for a long time. You'll be able to live in those goofy dreams you have. And you know what baby doll? Daddy and I will join you one day."
"I don't wanna go to sleep, Mumma," she whimpered. "Mumma, I don't like to sleep."
"I know, baby but we'll all sleep for a long, long time at some point. You're just able to go to sleep faster than others," I explained. "You know how Mumma and Daddy call you our angel?"
She nodded her head. I reached for her small hand and held it tightly. Zayn rubbed the back of my neck with his thumb and watched Jade intently.
"Well, baby, you will be an angel, soon."
She looked as if she didn't really get it at first, but soon enough she just laid down, said I love you, and fell asleep. I sat there with Zayn, watching Jade sleep. Soon enough, Zayn stood up and took ahold of my arm. "C'mon, babe."
I followed him out into the living room and sat down with him. "I'm so scared, Zayn."
"I am too," he whispered. "But she knows now. At least she knows."
"I almost don't want her to understand," I mumbled into his chest. "That way she wouldn't be scared, like us."
"I don't think she's scared, Ray, I think she's confused." He rubbed my back and kissed the top of my head. "In all honesty, I am confused, too."
"I'm not ready to lose her," I mumbled.
"No one could possibly ever be ready to lose their baby."
I peeked up to Zayn and stared into his eyes. "I love you, Zayn," I muttered before releasing all of the tears I've held in, onto his chest.
"I love you too," he whispered before I fell asleep on him.
That same night, Zayn and I lost our angel. I went to wake her up, but she didn't open up her beautiful eyes to see the world.
Zayn and I could never be prepared before something like this, no parent could ever be that prepared. I never thought that I would lose my baby girl before she could live her life.
Losing someone you love is difficult. It's something so hard, it's almost unbearable. Losing my baby girl is unbearable. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. Even the thought that I'm going to have to set up a funeral is something I don't want to do. Zayn's mother hadn't gotten to meet our baby girl.
No one will have the pleasure to meet our baby girl, again. Except all of the angels in the sky will treat her like the pure angel she is. She will always be our baby girl.
That random night I had with Zayn led to the most beautiful to the most ugly days I have ever experienced. That random accident that Jade and Kris was in caused my life to get turned upside down.
Now that Jade is gone, I'm also gone.
---------------------------------------------------------
I'm bawling, ok. I can't believe this chapter is finally here. I didn't want to get to Jade's death. I'm sorry it had to happen, but that's how the story goes.
The next few chapters are important, I guess. Oh god..
